I'm probably going to get one of these games but I am unsure which to get. I'm new here so it would be a great help if you could tell me the differences and pros and cons between each one as they seem so similar to me. Also which game usually has more teamwork online in each game? Feeel free to recommend any other online shooters as well. THanks in adnacne for all your replies.

BF2 for me, I've been playin it for 3yrs and it still isn't boring, new maps few times a year and some extra content make it interestin. I tried 2142 and it was just too mayhem and the sci-fi did not do it for me. I saw COD4 at my cusins and it looks realy nice, but it's just plain shooter like Counter-Strike, nothing more to it. BF2 gives u options, tanks, apc's, plains, chopper, cars, boats, list goes on, u can manage squads, b a commander of a 32 people team, honestly this game just has so many options u will find what u'r good at.

So far the only full game I have been able to get around to trying out on my laptop has been BF2 (which is my vote as well), which I still enjoy all these years later. It runs great on it. I think I had the settings at medium (forget which resolution used) and fraps was right around 100 FPS. 2142 used the same engine, so it should give the same results. COD4 would tax your system even more. I ran the demo at 1280 x 800 and I think med settings and averaged mid 40s.

Thanks for all your feedback so far. Between bf2 and bf2142 which do see more teamwork in? Also which one has better infantry combat?

I vote CoD4. The game dynamics are much better than BF2. Not to say that BF2 is a boring game. Just different. CoD4 is more like CS while BF2 is more like Halo.

You see a lot more teamwork in BF2142 than in BF2, you can find it in BF2 but it's a lot less common. BF2142 has better infantry combat but vehicle combat is lacking.

BF2 is more balanced in terms of infantry/vehicle combat than BF2142 is.

COD4 is fun, but the constant run and gun games can get boring after a while.

BF2 is a tossup for teamwork. Some servers tend to be better than others with people that like to work together. Not surprisingly, those are the teams that usually win. I like the Moongamer server for this. As for 2142, I've never played it so I can't say anything for/against it, I'm just not that much of a sci-fi shooter fan.

There are demos for all of the games. I suggest trying them all on your laptop and see which one is best. FYI - the BF2 demo uses other people online playing, so you're not up against bots.

It's really all about the server's in BF2. A really fun game is when everyoen is in squads and you have a commander. There are servers that manage to get this done, and it's great. I love BF2. For $10, it's amazingly priced!

I think with BF2142 commanders, squad leaders and soldiers are rewarded if you follow their requests such as take over such an such a point.

With BF2 there is no such reward and you have lots of rogue squad members that do their own things.

The one thing I like most about BF2 though is that it uses modern military units and is easy to relate to. With BF2142 you have to learn what each weapon does. Also with 2142 your sprinting ability is GREATLY reduced. That is an acquired talent for some stupid reason.

I've only played BF2 for a few minutes, so couldn't tell you much about teamwork in that game, but in COD4, teamwork is nonexistant, in almost every gamemode you just strive for the highest points on the leader board, game modes where you would assume that teamwork would be neccisary, no one will ever care and just go off and kill.

BF2142 is impossible to win without teamwork, you need a commander, you need squads, and you need to work together to take on objectives. Vehicle combat in that game is pretty good too, you've got your standard transport vehicles with light weaponry, your quick vehicles for assaults on infantry, and large tanks and walkers for pretty much everything else.

BF2 every time. 2142 is a bit gimmicky but fun. The squad/tactics in BF2 just blows it out of the water. COD4 just seems to 'light' for multiplayer.

You obviously haven’t heard of Project Reality mod for BF2 have you? I would suggest BF2 for Project Reality alone.

Since I don't feel like having to repeat myself I'll past a reply I made to a similar thread:

2142 isnt very scifi for people who havent played it. still using bullets...

cod4 is the best if you like twitch games like cs, bf2 has the biggest community and is probably the easiest to find teamwork, my personal favorite is bf2142, but its been dying as alot of people prefer bf2, and competitive players moved on to cod and tf2 and css.

i seriously think that the vehicles in 2142 are far superior (in terms of funness) to bf2, and im a ground pounder who loves his krylov. battlefield series also has a lot more replay value.

//edit: while 2142 is my personal favorite, i will also vouch for project reality. no teamwork = you will die very fast and sit there for several minutes to respawn and then take hours walking everywhere. although since i play with a team that doesnt happen :p

also for the "BF2 is more balanced in terms of infantry/vehicle combat than BF2142 is."- jets arent balanced. if their team has a pilot and your team does not, theres a very high probability of no one shooting him down. unfortunately they overbalanced in 2142, where gunships dont do anywhere near as much damage to ground pounders and they are much easier to take down as well. still think its better though :p

    My vote goes to COD4.

    Played BF2, hated it. Haven't tried BF2142.

I'm more into the clasic fps's however. Once you get overpowered vehicles into the game it turns into one big crapfest. Takes away from the "skill" component of the game.

I like when everyone is on the same level playing field, which can't be accomplished if you have vehicles in play.

I'm yet to install BF2, but I've been playing CoD4 for a while, and I absolutely agree that there's no teamwork there. In the Search and Destroy mode I actually asked someone what our plan was, and he just said kill anyone you see. Doh! In every mode, all the people I've met are playing the same way. It gets repetetive very quickly.

Teamwork is all dependent on the particular server you're on. In any of the games you'll find too many lone wolves and TK'r. Make some friends and try to play with them more often, or form causal player relationship with a clan. They always need good player to practice with.

Find a good server with admins and any can be great! Myself, I like the openness of BF2 and 2142 more than COD4. Plus Bf2 has quite a bit more Mods that really change it up a lot. Project reality Mod, Point of Existence mod and the new Forgotten Hope mod make BF2 like a handful of games. Not to mention the SF mod pack as well. And currently the price is very nice. 2142 is good but lacks the community support BF2 has.

I absolutly love 2142. As the other's said...it's all about the MATURITY of the server you play on

Find some tactical-gamer's servers. They are pretty intent on team-work.

The best part of the game is when you're running around with your squad buddies...someone gets picked off at an attacking front, and you revive them. Then the squad holds off, and the leader regroups them around a differen't attacking point. You all rush in for the kill, and take out the opponent from behind, capturing the base, and stealing their armor in one fell swoop.

^^This only happens when team-work is a priority.

Sigh this only happen when I play on LAN with a bunch of friends.... Online it's always pretty much free for all with idiots hogging the vehicles, idiots who don't defend control points and run around trying to increase their kill count or plain TK'r idiots....

get Battlefield 2142. Very addicting, fun, and well balanced.

When you play Battlefield 2, you'll find that most people only play Strike at Karkand, and Road To jalalabad. A lot of people grenade spam in those maps.

This is why I don't play on maps with Friendly Fire turned off. It turns into a Nade Spam Fest... very annoying.

    I'm a recent BF2 addict. I haven't tried 2142 but I figure it's too similar to justify purchasing a new game.

Have played/playing all three games, but lately (last couple of months) CoD4 is king of the hill.
Fast, fun and easy to fire up compared to BF that has a load time thats insane. CoD4 loads in a fraction of time of what BF needs.

It's wrong to say that Cod4 has no teamwork, it does, at least the same as BF2, but not on the same level as BF2142, wich I prefer to BF2.

So if you like games like CS and TF2 I think CoD4 is the right way to go.
The one-player component of the game is also excellent.

When it comes to BF, as I said, I prefer BF2142 over BF2. Much better team play aspects, but sadly the number of players has declines over the last years.
