First post on here my name is alex...

(before someone says it, yes I updated my drivers and it is indeed using the gt550m when gaming, I think... not sure how to tell)
Anyway, got my new laptop a week ago and from what I have heard, I am not getting the performance others are getting on BF3. I run 720p at medium-ish-y-low-ish graphics, or native at low graphics. Some people are saying they can run native at high and that seems impossible :l I was wondering if there is something I need to do in order to increase the speed on higher resolutions?

    SPECS
    Core i7 2.3 ghz
    8gb ram
    gt550m 3gb
300gb HD if that matters lol

it has the high res screen btw

550m is good for 720p in BF3 mainly medium details. Be sure to turn off the AA and any bloom type effects.

    Then use the command

    WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 0

That will add some FPS as well without sacrificing any visual quality.

It may run 1080p ok at low, but expect 30-35fps at best.

create a file named user.cfg (make sure there is no .txt attached at the end of the name) in the same folder as bf3.exe and put that line in it.

That or just press the tilde key in-game and type it out if you just want to try it. Put 1 at the end and then 0 at the end and note the difference.

Btw, go to nvidia control panel, look along the top where 'file' would be and there will be a option to 'show gpu status in the taskbar' this will put a nice little icon on the taskbar lighting up when the discrete gpu is being used.

I would disable any AA if possible. Then tweak settings to get a decent frame rate.

Well, thanks for the command line thing, that helped out! Also I overclocked my gpu a little bit, I can run native at auto settings around 45 fps without going over 80c! that is the quality I'm looking for :D

Your 555M isn't a very strong card. The DX11 capabilities will help you in BF3, but BF3 is already an unoptimized game. Don't expect much out of your visuals. Our friend HTWingNut pretty much has you covered.
