    Hello

I am wondering whether anyone can help me with a big problem I am experiencing when I try to play COD4:Modern Warfare.

When I try to play in Singleplayer mode I keep getting the error message saying "Please insert correct disk" even though the correct disk is in fact in the dvd drive.

When this happened I contacted Actvision Customer Support who suggested several possible solutions including disabling all non-Microsoft services, pressing left shift key and updating drivers.

None of these worked so we concluded the disk was probably faulty and I obtained a replacement from Amazon. After uninstalling the original, I re-installed but I am unfortunately again experiencing exactly the same problem.

The game appears to have installed fully and correctly. I have installed all the patches.

My Acer Aspire 6935G is only 5 months old and is working perfectly on Vista Home Premium SP2. I have recently installed Crysis, Company of Heroes and Fallout 3 and they work well.

This Acer has a Blu Ray drive and is working well on the other games and on music CDs.

The problem seems only to relate to COD4. I have researched the problem extensively on Google and it seems quite common but there is unfortunately no clear-cut solution.

I'm thinking about buying a used external DVD drive but before I go to this expense I wonder whether any users of this forum have experienced the same problem and found a solution.

    Many thanks in advance !!

Have you tried using no-dvd .exe replacement?

Make sure you use the correct version.

I have no idea what no-dvd is, so if this is the same thing, then nevermind.

What I would do is to use imgburn and make an .iso of the disc. Then using Alcohol 120% or another program of the same nature and load the .iso onto a virtual DVD drive. That would absolutely rule out any problems with your DVD drive, which is where I suspect the problem is.

Alternatively, you could share out the DVD from another computer and connect that way.

It's almost the same thing in a sense that you don't need the physical disc.
Since it seems like the game disc is causing the problem, using no-dvd eliminates the need for physical disc completely.

Plus, it's a lot easier to use than using an image, you don't need to mount the image file every time you play the singleplayer.

Do you remember maybe 10 years ago when games gave you the option of how much to install on a hard drive? I remember with Fallout 2, I could install as little as 5mb to the hard drive or as much as 600mb to the hard drive, this would determine how fast the loading times from the disc would be, how much the disc would be accessed at the cost of hard drive space.

Now, most modern PC games don't give you that option and just install the complete game to the hard drive but still need the disc for verification. So, a "no-CD" or "no-DVD" crack is usually a modified .exe file that doesn't check for the disc and so lets you play without the disc in the drive or an .iso mounted into a virtual drive.

    Hello again.

    Thanks for replies.

Unfortunately they are a little over my head. I should also have mentioned I'm only a relative beginner with computers and PC games.

I've no idea what a .iso is or a virtual drive.

The no-dvd.exe route seems the best way to go especially as I think I saw several references to it when researching the problem on google.

Several posts in gamer forums mentioned using a no-cd crack to solve this problem which i think is possibly the same thing.

Apparently it would at least allow me to play in Singleplayer mode - which is at the moment the moment much better than nothing and suited to my gaming skills - but would probably cause problems in Multiplayer mode.

In the absence of a better solution, this is the route I will take.

Can you please advise the name of a safe site where i could download this no-dvd exe ( or crack) and the procedure to use it. Also, how to identify the correct version ?

Also is this safe to use ?

Thanks for help and looking forward to hearing more.

Actually, if you can get ahold of an external DVD drive, or install it on another PC and see if you get the same issue. Then you can confirm if it's your DVD drive or the media. More than likely the DVD drive because you had the DVD replaced.

    Check your private messages (PM).

Discussing no-DVD cracks are not allowed here at NBR unfortunately, expect the thread to be closed in 3..2..1

    Thanks again for input.

Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated but, failing a solution and continued silence from the "experts" at Actvision Customer Support, I will try to borrow a used external drive from my local computer repair shop and see if the game plays on this.

Failing this, I will go down the no-dvd crack route as a last resort even though I risk being out of my depth.

I think I can understand why this route is not allowed to be discussed in the forum but its frustrating for a legitimate purchaser of a game like me who experiences problems and cannot get a solution from the game's own customer support .

Once again many thanks to all and still looking for further ideas !!
