Could be great---would probably have to be a prequel considering how Bioshock ended. Perhaps a story about the smuggler's struggle against Ryan? Or one of the CIA/KGB assassination attempts Ryan alluded to?

Loved it. I prefer slower action shooters to the frantic run and gun. At least there was some thought to it all.

This has been on the rumour horizon for sometime even with an unconfirmed concept artwork pic showing up somewhere, I might find it later for you. Looked kinda like HL2 or Stalker; a neutral toned industrial area.

Bioshock was GOTY IMHO. Nothing came close in all areas. Some games had more action, others better photo realistic graphics, but Bioshock was the whole package and unmatched in 2007. Story, art, game play, length, sound, immersion etc... Let's hope #2 is just as good.

Not interested in Bioshock 2. First one took 13 hours for me to beat, and I have absolutely no desire to ever play it again.

I think if it's going to be a prequel (unconfirmed) then we have to go back to Rapture. It will possibly be the birth of, and likely be the golden age of Rapture. On another forum someone said Bioshock IS Rapture and I agree 100%.

They might take the splicers out of Rapture in a sequel, but then it will just be another game... if it's going to be Bioshock it has to be Rapture.

Yeah it would be nice if they gave us NEXT-GEN graphics in that game. This PS2 crap is getting old.

i liked bioshock. i think the game mechanics made it less of the run-gun shooter like halo and more of a set-up-shop-then-aim game that uses alot more stratagy than most fps. Long as hell though. Final boss was too easy.

I think it would be cool if Bioshock 2 takes place at the start when the city starts being evacuated and destroyed.

Never finished the first one, lost interest in about 2 hours into play. Might try it again but to me Bioshock is total bull**** gameplay wise, graphically it is nothing spectacular either in DX10 nor DX9 fully maxed out. Next Gen graphics my ass :) So funny to hear about the next gen grahics, well guess what Next Gen graphics is only available on the PC and that is Crysis. Now I talk graphically :) Next Gen on consoles is a joke, woot HD!!!! 1280x720 amazing, plain amazing I have never played at such a low resolution since back in the days of the PC.

Sorr for some off topic ranting but hearing Next Gen just makes me pissed off since mostly it is adhered to console graphics which I am not at all impressed with, ridiculousy low resolution, low resolution textures.

Bioshock is like a straight conversion, they could have done so much more with the graphics for the PC, nope instead it is just as dumbed down graphically as the 360, fuzzy looking graphics, not sharp at all. Yes I do own a 360 myself, collecting dust in a corner :)

Just take a look at Gears of War for PC, ultra sharp textures, not the fuzzy low res textures Bioshock has.

Allright enough of ranting now, maybe Bioshock 2 looks better at least.

I did really enjoy Bioshock, but throughout most of it I was never thinking that the game ever looked good graphical wise. I really think they could do FAR better. It is the unreal engine after all, and UT3 looks spectacular cranked to max in a very high res. The textures were just the worst part, they looked like something I would expect from a PS2 game.

The gameplay was also great, but I think in an underwater city thats breaking apart, and spewing water from it's seams, you NEED to be able to freeze water with the freeze plasmid. I can see alot of puzzles and situations where this could mix up the gameplay.

I agree with the fact that bioshock isn't bioshock without rapture. But I think that's why it keeps being speculated as a prequel, playing the role of someone else before rapture went to hell. That would be the easy way to revisit rapture is to make a prequel but I just hope they don't reuse the same old environments like some games do..

I think Bioshock excelled in visual style. Maybe the textures were low res and not photo realistic like Crysis, but the visual style & art direction of this game blows away Crysis, COD4, UT3 and every other "Next Gen" game from 2007. If people paid more attention to what they were really looking at as opposed to dissecting textures, messing with cfg files to get the ultimate God Ray or blade of grass etc... then maybe they'd see that Bioshock is not supposed to be photo realistic. It's supposed to have an almost cartoony quality. It's all part of the package.

I'll admit I get sucked into all that tweaking too, but I know damn good art direction when I see it and Bioshock wins hands down in visuals. You just need to get past that "oh it's not hi-res enough for me" attitude. Yes it's because it was designed for 360... so what??????? I wish more companies could port a game as well as 2K did with Bioshock ( looking at YOU Ubisoft  )!

I wonder if Bioshock 2 will be more in the same vein as the system shock series, the latter was and still is considering very difficult to beat on the hardest difficulty mode compared to the Bioshock free death respawning features.

Why do people equate level of difficulty with game rating? If I write a chess program that is unbeatable except by maybe one person in the entire existence of the human race does that make it the best game in the world?

Ya ok you just regenerate in a tube if you die... so what? How many times did you die? If it went to a screen that said " YOU DIED" in big red letters before letting you load your last checkpoint would that have improved the game play?

HL2: EP3 or HL3 is what im really really really waiting for...

If Steam stops creating Half Life thats like... taking the concept of good games away,... and so low end games become standard... aaah

Hopefully Crytek will learn from its mistakes and make the same developmental achievements in the future

Some people like a challenge, and Bioshock being a standard action RPG with a half-decent story and pretty graphics makes it inferior to the system shock model of clever RPG development, difficult equipment choices and death penalty to other people other than Thund3rball. Of course you're entitled to your opinion that having no death penalty and free resurrection makes the gameplay improved but others (like me) are entitled to disagree.

Uhm... when did I say this improved game play... nuh uh my friend you are twisting my words ;) I won't repeat what I said cuz it's right above yours, but I will comment further on your reply. And yes we are alowed to disagree which is why I am writing more :p

Yes I like a challenge too. I also like clever game play etc... But why does everybody need to compare Bioshock to System Shock (and particularly SS2)? If the ONLY reason Bioshock was not GOTY is because it isn't SS2... than everybody needs to get their head examined. Maybe Bioshock is less penalty driven than SS2 but again... so what?

The story isn't half-decent. The story in Crysis is half-decent. The story in Bioshock is bloody fantastic.

No the game is not perfect, no game is. But in a time when everyone is coming out with one guy in a suit, sci-fi FPS after another. Or the same old WWII, modern combat, team shooter... Bioshock stands far above.

Technically HL2: EP3 comes first because they cut HL3 in 3 pieces so the waiting isnt too long...

So maybe theyll just go with HL3 later or HL4... or stop the series (PLEASE GOD DONT LET THAT HAPPEN)

And... uhm... Crytek should release and develop as they are right now, even if they dont make games/engines that can run on current hardware... THEY STATED THAT IT COULDNT ! ! ! ITS SUPPOSED TO BE NEXT GEN ! ! ! DUUUH

And I am so impatient for ALAN WAKE right now... it seams like the next crysis rig killer lol

Why tout Bioshock as the "spiritual successor" to system shock 2 to fans before it was released? Other than the similarities in the name and some gameplay features the two games couldn't be more different from each other. Bioshock's story is considered fantastic by some and cliched by others so it depends on the gamer.

I still stand by what I said: the game is an action FPS with a few RPG elements and a half-decent story (that's what I think). If the developers are going to compare it with SS2 then using the term "spiritual successor" really doesn't cut it to the hardcore System shock fans.

Bioshock has its merits, I don't dispute that. But many gamers who expected something like system shock were either very surprised or disappointed by how the final product turned out.

Well I guess that's why I never (well maybe not never) but rarely get myself all jigged up about a game before it's released. I buy maybe 2-3 games/year on launch day, the rest get to sit and wait for a price drop before I hand over the cash. It was no different for Bioshock. I was not even gonna bother till all my friends were hammering me with "this game ROCKS". So I went out and got it on day 2. I was not dissapointed at all. And I bought more copies for friends/relatives too.

Look at Crysis... "the game you will never be able to play on your computer". WTF is that for marketing? And everyone was salivating. Turns out after the KPA levels it was all downhill anyways.

Now it's Farcry 2. Ya it looks bloody amazing. But WTH are regrowing leaves going to do to make me enjoy the game? I loved FC1, it is on my Top 5 of all time. But I am not getting sucked in to Farcry 2 hype and technical merits. What is it like to play? Is it fun, rewarding, engaging, immersive? Does the story twist and turn, keep me informed and present me with characters I care about or want to care about. This is what's important to me.

So having said that I found Bioshock to be the best experience I've had in PC gaming since running around as an Alien in AVP and "The Blast Pit" in HL1 :)

For me Bioshock is one of the best games of all times. The artistic design is phenomenal (i love art deco), the graphics are excellent, and even though its gameplay isn't revolutionary, it is quite innovative.

I'd love to see Bioshock 2 as a prequel; and yes, Bioshock is Rapture
