Anyone else see the new trailer for the 3rd installment in the Bioshock series named Bioshock Infinite?

Link to full video in HD here.

    <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pV_TDxl2UIo?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;hd=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pV_TDxl2UIo?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;hd=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width='560' height="340"></embed></object>

Look's pretty darn good if you ask me.

Expect release date sometime in 2012.

It'd have to be better than Bioshock 2. Actually from that trailer, it certainly has a lot of potential.

It looks like it could be exciting, I like how the game is all about optimism.

Well it's interesting that Irrational went back to Bioshock after so many hints that they were working on something vastly different. BUT... I am very happy this team is making another game within this concept. Bioshock 2 was very disappointing and an obvious "milk it" title from 2K. I think Ken and his team have what it takes to take this to the next level (no pun intended) and am anxiously awaiting more info.

    Optimism? lol

Damn, I gotta finish that second one. I chickened out like a little girl a little ways in.

I didn't quite get what that trailer was all about though? Some guy getting thrown out a window into a Sky Captain type world?

I wasn't sure what it was at first - thought it might be some crappy DLC - then I found out it was a full sequel, and I have to say, I was disappointed.

But then I watched the trailer, and OH THANK JEEBUZ IT IS NOT UNDERWATER!

Don't get me wrong, I loved Bios1 and even 2. I just didn't want to see the same thing happen to that series that happens to almost every American TV show that runs 6+ years, or what happened to C&C or certain other over-sequeled franchises - they get old, they get stale, they start to suck, and any trace of rosy nostalgia gets pissed on and thrown in the dumpster behind an Indian restaurant.

I can almost imagine the development team's meeting.

Team Leader: "Okay, the publishers are paying us to make another Bioshock."
Guy 1: "Oh christ, no, not another one!"
    Guy 2: "Goddammit!"
Guy 1: "I want to get as far away from Bioshock as possible! I'm sick of the ocean!"
Guy 2: "What's the furthest place from the ocean?"
Guy 3: "Hey, let's set it in the sky!"
Guy 2: "That's not bad. Certainly far away from the ocean."
Guy 1: "Can we not rip off the cheesy Fallout art style this time?"
Guy 3: "Yeah, we can set it in pre-WW2!"
Guy 2: "You know they're just going to make us do another sequel after this one, right?"
Guy 3: "No way! Let's call this one 'Bioshock: Infinite', so then we can just say that we're out of numbers to call our sequels!"
Team Leader: "Guy 3, you're #$%@ing brilliant. You get a raise. And a bonus. And a yacht. And here, take this brick of gold. And my Ferrari out front? Here are the keys."

What engine will it use? I hope it'll run well on my laptop when it's released!

Looks really good and I enjoyed the previous 2 games.

I would hope it would use the UE 3.0 engine, since Bio1/2 used Unreal 2.5. In this case both nvidia/ati cards perform really well.

bioshock 2 single player was TOO SHORT, and the multiplayer had SO MANY BUGS that 2k never borthered fixing, and stupid DLCs with the first one that offered literally 5 new masks that serve no purpose other than making you look like an idiot for having spent the money.. and a second DLC that gave you new maps... but you can only play on these maps if EVERYONE else in your room also bought BOTH DLCs .. which was nearly impossible since the game pretty much puts people into rooms randomly

How can you say that? It was just a FMV there was absolutely no gameplay or nothing about the gameplay there.

Dude, he means since it's based in a sky city, it has potential to be interesting and they could do a lot of cool stuff in that settingggggggggggg

Chill. The ocean was getting a little old. Although the first Bioshock is probably my favorite game, the second was boring. Visually, I don't think there has been anything like Rapture. Little Sister made #2 somewhat interesting though.

    Exactly. Lots of FRESH perspectives.

Metroid Prime had a cool sky city.

The setting itself probably will matter little in terms of gameplay or how much potential it has. I still think its too broad of a statement to say a game has potential based on a FMV. For all we know it will be a total bomb of a game.

I guess you could say "the new setting (atmosphere) has a lot of potential that would make sense.

For Bioshock: Infinite to be a worthy game, it needs to not be Bioshock. That was the biggest flaw of Bios2: it was Bioshock, but tweaked. B:I needs to be something totally new, it needs its own characters, its own innovations, its own story, its own style. And setting it in WW1-era and in the skies is promising because it tells us that the developers know this.

Exactly. I've shown this to several friends and they're like "what's Bioshock without the ocean and Rapture?!" and I keep telling them that there's nothing that says Bioshock sequels HAVE to be in Rapture. For all we know, in Infinite's timeline, Rapture may still be a gleam in Jack Ryan's mind. This game has the potential to go anywhere it wants. Also, like a lot of people I talk to don't realize that this game takes place 48 years before the Rapture/ADAM revolution. So, in my opinion, if they can pull this off with an addicting story line like the first, it opens the door to MANY sequels. They could even lead up to the original Bioshock's timeline in sequels to Infinite. I see this as a HUGE opportunity for Irrational Games.

Oh dear god, I hope they DON'T do that!

Don't let Bioshock wallow in mediocrity with same-y sequel after mediocre same-y sequel!

Bioshock is about the narrative. Bioshock 2 was a shooting gallery game set in Rapture with nothing to do with Levine's concepts, and the story was just a trudged up find & replace (from opposite perspective) for what happened in 1.

Judging by Levine's comments and past works, he tends to have an obsession with extreme right wing ideologies rooted in American culture (going horribly wrong). In Bioshock it was Objectivism; the ultimate form of capitalism, based on Ayn Rand's theories. This new story focuses on American Exceptionalism of the 19th Century. But this time colonialism takes to the sky!

Gameplay wise I think there's going to be some of the things we can expect from a Bioshock game (weapons, powers, big daddy typesof a different name and nature...). What I read is we will be getting an AI partner which opens up new possibilities of weapon combos. The team is also stressing more emphasis on choices. Not just be "good" or be "bad", but choices in how you can solve a situation (you might not even know you made one).

I am really looking forward to what could be in store with this game. :)
