So I'm playing Bioshock with my x1600, wow, what a game...
I lower the resolution to 800x480 so I can get all the eye candies. I could though, play at 1280x768 but without any eye candy.
I was wondering, what would you guys choose, candies or resolution?

    candies,
but does these candies blurs because you stretch the small resolution with your big screen and you are back to square one...?

I say resolution. A higher resolution always makes a game look better (at least to me).

Sure, but the eye candies still contribute to the complex atmosphere of Bioshock.

i got a x1600 and i definetly go for the candies. Its not as ugly as youd think, and whats the point of a sharp resolution if all you see are ugly graphics? Id rather have a little less detailed beauty then incredibly sharp ugly.

In the case of Bioshock, I agree completely. I have a an x1800 which is much more powerful than a x1600 but I still play Bioshock at 800x600 so as to be able to crank up all the eye candy and still have smooth frame rates.

I would recommend the OP to connect his/her notebook to his/her TV (If it's an SDTV) that way you won't have to suffer from washed out colors as a result of your screen scaling down to 848x480. But since you would need an xbox 360 controller it might be more trouble than it's worth

Here's what you do. Return the game and play it on the 360. That's what I did :).

Well, I found I had the best graphic experience by playing it at 1024x768 with all the eye candies except shadows and post processing. I'm enjoying it a lot, and the advantage of having it in PC (aside that the mouse is a must in shooters), is that in a couple of years I'll re-enjoy it playing it in a more powerful PC with graphics that you can't even dream for the 360.

In a couple of years the flood will invade earth and we'll have to ally ourselves with a select few covenant elite's just to survive. Gaming won't be your concern.
