Alright, so it has worked fine until today. I don't know what has happened, but i've tried all the suggested fixes/updates and nothing. I've reinstalled it.. I've disabled all the audio devices in the device manager, unplugged my usb Logitech headset... and even updated all my drivers. Anybody got any suggestions? I LOVE that game but it's just not cooperating.

Like does the game sboot but won't continue after the intro, or it won't boot if you start the game at all...
I think I had the same problem with another game.
What has changed since the last time the game booted up?
Maybe new antivir? An OC that's not good, ... -
We need more details as to why the game isn't working.
What exactly is happening?
Also, when you removed the game from the system, I recommend you delete the previous folder where the game was (either on C or another partition - you can backup any savegames to a different folder) and additionally clean up the system and it's registry via Ccleaner.
also, which OS are you using?
If it's Vista or Win 7, try running the game as an administrator. -

Sorry guys... what happens is the first time I launched the game the other day, I saw the spinner come up on the cursor then it shifted window focus to the background like it always did... then nothing. So I pulled up the task manager and re-launched it. Well, as soon as I launched it, I saw it come up in the task manager "bioshock.exe *32" then after a moment it just dissapears. Here's the windows error log...
Faulting application name: Bioshock.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000

Any ideas? -
Uninstall it and then right click the setup file and set it to vista or xp compatibility mode. Bioshock has been known to have issues with windows 7.

-
H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
Nope, I actually bought the disk version at Wal-Mart. It ran perfectly on the exact windows install I'm currently on for quite a while, then it just wouldn't do anything anymore. Which makes be think it's some kind of driver incompatibility problem.
-
did you uninstall it before it stopped working, or was it already installed when it stopped working? Does it require the cd to be in the drive to run?

iirc the witcher uses Tages driver or something like that for its DRM. bioshock doesn't (I have bioshock) it might use disc-check securom tho

I would try a no cd mod, http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_bioshock.shtml
-
I actually tried that with my retail version and then the game wouldn't run. (that same no cd mod)

Dear Mr. Rorschach... Words just can't express. Thank you very, very much! Works like a charm with the no-cd mod!
-
^^ glad it worked, is your bioshock cd scratched at all on the back? That could be the problem.
