Share your thoughts on BO MP here. I've been playing MP for more than a day now and I've had some awesome fun with it.
I'm Level 25 right now and so far my favourite class are the MP5k with rapid fire, frag & 2 stun nades, Lightweight, Sleight of Hand and Marathon. When I use that class I always end up being the top 2 players with awesome k/d ratio. You could also easily replace the MP5k with the AK74u with grip to get similar results.

I also like the last LMG, aka STONER63 with extended clip, that gun is awesome imo but it runs out of ammo fast so you need scavenger with it.![]()
By the way if your game has random lag spikes try the following, it helped my game a bit and most of my games are very smooth now.
1. Open Console (`) Type /cl_maxpackets 100, Close Game.
2. Right click on Black Ops Multi in steam gamesGo Properties -> Updates -> Untick Enable steam cloud sync.
If your CPU only has 2 cores the game will lag a bit in MP due to a bug and there is no official fix at the moment but Treyarch is working on a patch afaik.
Edit: fix for dual core cpus:
1) If your computer only has 1 GPU, go to config_mp.cfg in the Steam Black Ops folder and do a search for multi. By default, they have it enabled for people who have multiple GPUs, which is an obvious mistake and it helps to fix lag.
2) By default, they have multithreading turned off! (This is the value underneath MultiGPU). Basically, if you only have 1 GPU but have a dual core or greater processor, change the value of MultiGPU to 0, and change the value of multithreading to 1.

I rented it for the ps3 and returned it all in one day, coulda had a big mac or something.
Im sure it is a much better game on the PC, what really turned me off was the awful hit detection and the number of bullets required . Pick one! Do I need more bullets to drop someone or less response so it seems a bit more realistic, may just be the IWnet clone of a matchmaking system though.
The maps are also way too small, the majority force people to camp because walking out anywhere is pretty much a deathtrap. Apparently that means its more "tactical"? Right..not to mention the spawning in TDM is completely broken, ive had the whole enemy team spawn in front of me.
I know Treyarch has a history of screwing up intital releases (well just Waw comes to mind), and I expect they will fix a lot of the problems with the game, but they really turned me off with their initial quality, as there was none. I would be livid if I had purchased this game, I would advise anyone on a console to rent it.
Anyways, /rant. -
I was enjoying it but the lag spikes are bad, I'll try what you suggested and hope that helps
-
I'm on PC and I don't think we have any problems with the hit detection at all...
The problems we have are random lag spikes for some people and also the dual core CPUs lags badly due to Steam using too much resources on the CPU. :/

I've never really liked cod multiplayer maps, they are always way to small.

I don't know whats wrong but when I open MP, it says servers are not available.
I must say this game got nice graphics and unique COD storyline.
Im loving it... -
Must confess that I am a complete noob when it comes to CoD MP.....though I've dabbled in Quantum of Solace MP and spent a great deal of time with L4D/L4D2.
This is the first game where I've actually spent a bit of time in MP after finishing the single player campaign. Have only played on two maps so far--the 'Brady Bunch' style neighborhood and the mountaintop facility and while I think they are a bit.....crowded....I'd stop short of calling them too small--they keep the action fast & furious and camping hasn't really been a problem.
The default SMG loadout is my favorite too so far, haven't really got into the customization aspect yet.
I think the thing I like the most about this is the accessibility. From the MP menu, you select your preferred game mode and then slide on in. I remember playing MOH:AA & Soldier of Fortune 2 back in the day and also remember how much of a PITA it was to get into a match with those two games.
The lag issue has also been present in all of my sessions, though it hasn't been too unbearable from what I've experienced. -
That fix made the game playable, maksin. Much better than before, so thank you. Still bad, but thanks nonetheless.
-
-
I enjoyed the MP too, really fun. I believe its a lot better that MW2, and its worth every penny spent.
-
I just found another fix that improves the lag for people who has a dual core cpu. Apparently it makes the game a lot more playable for them.
Anyway here it is.
1) If your computer only has 1 GPU, go to config_mp.cfg and do a search for multi. By default, they have it enabled for people who have multiple GPUs, which is an obvious mistake and it helps to fix lag.
2) By default, they have multithreading turned off! (This is the value underneath MultiGPU). Basically, if you only have 1 GPU but have a dual core or greater processor, change the value of MultiGPU to 0, and change the value of multithreading to 1.

don't blame steam for using CPU resources. it doesn't. it's the program.
steam just sits there on a few MB of memory and 0 processing power. it isn't affecting the game. it is entirely the game's fault. again, don't blame steam. -

The game is just a Modern Warfare 2 rehash, I can't believe how many people actually expect more than just new maps and weapons. Come on.
I'll be damned before I splurge $60 on this rehash of a one year old game. Come on developers! Where has your originality and determination to create groundbreaking games gone? -
and hence I posted the "disable steam cloud fix", which FYI actually works.
There's also a few other fixes that are for Steam alone, as you can see from this thread I found. Games On Net • View topic - Tweeks and possible fixes
Anyways I played a bit more and are loving my highly customized AUG with RDS. (blue X-dot crosshair + green lens)Attached Files:

HEy, I was playing some multi last night, and when I finished I checked HW monitor noticed my CPU and GPU were both running in the the high 90's. Seems a bit high to me... is this safe for my system?
-
CPU is a bit dangerous-ish but GPU is about fine ._.
-
Dang... Don't want to damage anything. will running it at lower settings help fix the temps?
-
Not sure about lowering the settings but it might help a bit. You're better off cleaning your vents and use a cooler though
-
It's a pretty entertaining game! They did a good job on the MP over MW2. I like the 60's cold war scenario as I haven't played a game in this setting.
It's definitely a re-hash of MW2 but with improvements where they needed to be. I'm not gonna say it's the best game ever but it's been a lot of fun so far! -
Yeah, it's loads of fun. I need to go buy a can of air. haha. 91* on one core and 96* on the second.
I wish i was high enough level to get the m14 though. that's my favorite weapon. =) -
Who are the multiplayer teams? Is it Russians vs. Americans? I hate games like MOH who put Terrorists against Americans. Why would I ever want to play as a terrorist? I think Battlefield does a much better job with this aspect usually pitting Americans vs. Russians. I'd much rather be a Russian than an Afghan terrorist. Unless I can strap bombs to my chest and Jihad!
-
^the afghans are fighting for their freedom which is a noble cause and jihad is not blowing everything with bombs,it has much bigger ideology.
well customization is a great feature in Black Ops mp. -

I LOVE THIS GAME haha, AUG is
-
Seriously??? Well I don't want to play as an Afghan freedom fighter either. I prefer to play with serious military powerhouses only.
And in response to Jihad's....yeah religous groups always try to rationalize murder.
Can someone answer my first question about what countries play against each other in MP? Is it Americans vs. Russians, Americans vs. Vietnamese, Americans vs. any other extremist radical terrorist group, or Americans vs. the loveable freedom fighters of wherever? -
Political discussion is not allowed here at NBR, so please keep it out of the posts from this point onward. Thank you.

Hmmmm ... glad I checked here. I've been happy playing MOH. The game runs like butter on my desktop and laptop. No lag ... no problems. Because of past frustration with Activision, I held off buying the game until I could see how it runs. My desktop is a quadcore, so I assume that I won't have the lag issues. My laptop, on the other hand, is a dual core CPU. I guess I'll wait until Trayarch fixes its problems to decide if I want to get it. EA was smart to release MOH when they did. It is a great game and plays really well. I was a big fan of COD until WAW and then the ultimate disaster of MW2 which was a total piece of crap. I will be slower to spend my $$ on an Activision product in the future.

I guess I am the only NBR member that cant play MP because of the rampant stuttering and lag. A lot of people are experiencing this issue/bug. My question is: are any of YOU (laptop users) experiencing this as well?
-
I get it at times but then again I don't exactly play much multiplayer. Maybe just the zombie mode.
iirc there are some possible fixes hanging around. In fact, it's in the first post of this thread. -
-
yeah im stuttering like crazy and as i play longer the worse it becomes... oh well it seems my dual core cant handle black ops... may have to go buy a desktop >.<

Don't buy a desktop! Build one! It's easy! More bang for your buck too.

I hope a patch is coming out soon to allow connecting to IP and fixing this lag issue in SP and MP.
-
Anyone play a guy name SWAT Apocalypse yet?
I'm in his clan and he is a friggin' BEAST. Apparently he's got a 10 K/D ratio atm. xP -
I have a dual core and haven't experienced much stuttering at all...
-
stutter city at the moment in the uk for most players.
if i buy a external dedicated server to host my clan do you think this will help or is it a steam thing that affects most people until a patch is released. -
-
thanks for the info elementhp.
activision/steam/whoever, HURRY UP WITH A PATCH PLEASE. -
They're probably waiting for the huge flood of people to spam their forums just to get the community rolling at their own forums before releasing the patch
Or wait for more bugs to appear and then release a huge patch so they can just say "Patch is huge so we needed time" -
Here's my customized classes so far...

I do like the customizations with the guns and stuff... it's only a matter of time before CoD goes all MP, MMO like. I guess I wouldn't oppose if they would be good about updating and adding content. But whatever the case, MP is okay, partly b/c I suck and partly b/c I'm kind of bored with CoD.

Is it patched yet?

So the last COD game I played was MW1 and I skip over MW2 on PC. Coming back to black ops I am enjoyed playing this game. The only issue which everyone is having is the random lag spikes that occurred. The graphics are nice and all, but it starting to look dated, especially the effects. Also, I was afraid that the maps are going to be small size map and was surprise to see how large some of the maps are, which I like very much.
-
-
I am addicted to COD , and i was about to buy blackops until i heard about the MP lag bug , COD for me is about MP , i kept playing online for a year before opening campaign on MW2 , also i dont get a very good ping in my home country anyway so i think i will not handle my ISPs problems + lag bugs
, so ill be waiting for people to give me the OK to buy the game ( and keep playing MW2 )
-
xP -
I have reed much about the issues in MP in this game, is it really unplayable?
-
It's playable if you can handle the lag spikes
