Hey guys,
My clan purchased two Black Ops servers, and we all got the game and decided to play together today, but there doesn't seem to be a way to connect to specific IP. Anyone know how to connect to specific IP or did Treyarch drop the ball and forget to put that function in the game?

enter the console (~) key. then type "/connect IPADDRESS" without quotes.
you can also join a server, then invite friends that way, but i have yet to give it a try, as MP is unplayable for me right now. -
Same for me, naticus. Though I still somehow manage to play it...
-
adding friends to a game just doesnt want to know at the moment. it pops up on their screen with an invite but no button to push or accept.
tried this in multiplayer and private game as well.
just way too much lag at the moment in both single and multi so im giving up for now.
was thinking of getting a server. only one i could find at the mo is gameservers.com is that where you got yours. -
Gameservers.com is the only provider for Black Ops servers.

Yes, we got ours at Gameservers.com.
-
-
I get a blank screen when I start the game up, how do I fix this (on MP and SP exes)
-
might have to set up a server then for kobalt.
F10, ill try that later thanks.
its the one thing i hate when you download direct from steam. you get no user manual like you do with the box set. -
Actually, some games do have an online manual viewable via Steam...it would be nice if they had them for all games available through the store, though.
-
ive searched but cant find one
-
Hmm...I'll see if one of my friends with a retail copy wants to scan the manual and upload it. I'll get back to you on that.
-
-
thanks guys.that would be great. not just for me but for thousands of nbr users
-
The Manual is on the black ops site here : Black Ops Manual
-
brill, thanks for posting + rep.
doh! it says i cant give you a rep as i must spread them round. i owe you one nikolai -
So you can't just run a dedicated server from anywhere and have people join it like in older cod's? Has this changed now?
-
nope, the only place you can purchase and set up a server is gameservers.com
it was £9ish for 1 month and £23ish for 3 months. a little confusing setting up for the first time but the video tutorials helped a lot.
only problem now is some of my clan cant see the server on the ranked list for at least 10 minutes as there are so many out there.
we got tthere in the end though.
you can set it up to which ever game you like but not have a various so it picks a different game each time. faves are deathmatch or free for all.
also found you cant lock it so it fills up real quick but you have the option to kick all players so your team has a chance to join at a set time. -
The latest update on steam made it easier to join friends now!
-
at last. i was told to press F10 but that done nothing.
-
Theres a little button to the lower right now where you can see friends games and join, woot easier. Great job treyarch
-
nice one. will test it out when i get home.
-
to the OP, gameservers released a server update which helped fix some of the lag, and treyarch put out a client update and an update on their global servers, so now what i would do would be find your server then add it to favorites, because like you, me and my friends couldn't direct connect to our server with console commands.
i think that is ONE MAJOR command that needs to be implemented, especially if they ever want to have this game in CEVO or CAL - me and my friends never play in those leagues, but we always enjoy scrimming, so there is no way anyone will want to sift through all of the servers to find your particular server -
F10 joins my friend's game for me
-
how's the lagg issues? This is one of the reasons i'm not buying.. i would buy if it's solved.. but 35 pounds is unacceptable.. looks like activision thinks they can rip us off.. not..

update from me....
the f10 still does nothing for me and theres nothing in the bottom right of screen
servers were fun on saturday as nearly all were down (but they said it wasnt a problem at their end) but steam/treyarch problem. out of over 10,000 servers only upto 40 were showing most of the day and you couldnt join them if you tried. sorted by saturday evening. the official website and forum were also overloaded and then went down for a while.
even when you save your game in faves it only shows after its located in the main server list. it was taking upto 15 minutes for it to show but unable to join.
imo im not sure if im liking the multiplayer as much as mw2. yes the maps are better but i think the guns are crap even after buying attachments. ok it could also be to do with me being blind in one eye and having a slower reaction time due to this but im getting wooped all over the place. -

Haha, I don't really see the point of integrating the game into Steam if you can't invite/join from your Steam friend list window...

There's a MP Patch that just went live about an hour ago. According to "pcdev," who is one of the Treyarch guys (I think I heard he leads PC development for the game
) a single player patch will be out hopefully tomorrow. Source: pcdev twitter. He's been great, keeping people in the loop about what's going on and answering questions (which most definitely, and unfortunately can't be said for many developers/companies). Try 'em out and see if they help any issues. I'm just waiting for servers to restart to try the MP patch out.......
EDIT: Single player patch is now live as well. -
The hilarious thing is, this patch actually made things worse for me.
I was able to play MP with no stuttering or hitching at a pretty good fps, now i actually have a stutter and lag, on top of that i dunno what the **** they did but my GPU temp is nearly 96c, which by the way, no other game manages to get it that high AT ALL. This is literally the highest I've seen it at.
Im seriously considering getting a refund for this crap... -
-
Oh i will ask for a refund one way or another. I know its a steamworks game and pc games are non-refundable blah blah all that stuff, but others have managed to get one. There is a huge ****storm on the steam forums about this new patch as well. I can't believe how bad this game is.
-
Hmm. Worked for me. Temps are down, not much issue actually getting into games anymore. A little lag, but manageable.
-
Am I the only one enjoying the game? LOL I mean I don't get stutters and enjoy it very much. I don't understand how you guys end up like this.
-
I got a refund for a steam game, blacklight tango down, just horrible, they gave me steam funds for full amount paid. Of course it wasn't cash but im cool with this option, I can go ahead and purchase another game now.
-
Great...after the newest patch (released Nov. 19), I now have a new problem: Multiplayer crashes/freezes occasionally during matches forcing me to end the game through task manager. Interestingly, I ran fine before the last patch too. Honestly, I don't understand how Treyarch mucked up so much with the PC version of this game. I also don't know what percentage of the PC population are having stutter/freeze/crash/etc. problems, but this is becoming very annoying. Steam/COD forums are ablaze with anger (some more over-exaggerated/overdone than others, but anger none the less). Add to that the messed up last killcam (which is stuttering for everyone), the bad spawning system, the funny browser, and frequent "downloading game" popups and you wonder what these guys are doing. I really like this game, but they're just making this thing frickin' unplayable for many.... A game of this caliber/popularity should not be as plagued as this one is, especially after a few patches.

^^I heard disabling all your sound devices may fix the fps, but you end up with no sound. Its weird.
