I'm not sure what's causing this but my best guess is the new beta drivers from Nvidia as it started happening after installing those. It also happens randomly not all the time. I will resume from hibernate and I just get a black screen. I can enter my password and hear the login sound and I have to do a hard shutdown to fix this.

ive only used hibernate once and never again so delete it on every laptop i own.
just to check to see if it helps try this:
turn off and remove mains and battery. hold power button down for 20 seconds. then remove base plate and find the cmos battery and remove it for a minute. replace and put back together and then see if it happens again.
has helped quite a lot of people but not all so dont expect miracles.
