Hey guys, a friend of mine recently let me borrow his Sim City 4, and it seems like an interesting game. However, I've been out of touch with the SC series and I was hoping someone here, with experience in Sim City 4, could give me some pointers.

First of which is: What the heck is up with the auto-placement of streets when you zone? I hate that crap, it makes my city looks all mazed with lots of dead ends and wasted space! How do I overcome this huge annoyance?

Also: How come when you place roads, they no longer auto-connect? Say for instance:
    ^
    |
    |
    |
    X------>

The roads, unless you explicitly drag them over each other at 'X', will not connect. What's with this?

Anyways, pointers and tips would be helpful.

This is not a blast from the past. This game is new compared to Sim City for Super Nintendo. You can get this on Virtual Console now.

Um ok, thanks. Have you played it before though? What about the annoying street-laying issue with zones?

The most recent Sim City I played is Sim City 2000. After that I became bored.

    I love SimCity!!!

    1) play around with your CTRL; ALT, and Shift keys. holding the respective key while draging your zone will allow you to orient the zones.
--> I would recommend that you layout the streets first, then zone each/row of lots individually. (this allows for a more natural look)

    2) When connecting Streets/Roads, just drag the tool over the pavement, intersections will build automatically. Bulldoze the erroneous tiles to create a T intersection. (Streets cannot be built diagonally unless you install some add-on/mods)

    3) I recommend you try Network Add-on Mod (NAM). Among other things, allows you to tweak the pathfinding of your Sims. and Tolerance for commute times, as well as roundabouts and diagonal streets. (definately recommended) http://www.simtropolis.com/modding/index.cfm?p=details&id=380

I would love to answer more questions, but check out simtropolis forums... very knowledgeable/helpful.

    Best of Luck

I used to play that until I found out why it was running so crappy on my system. Apparently it runs like crap on the hardware renderer option when using Catalyst 6.3 or up.

    1. I believe you hold down ship to stop the automatic street from building when building a zone.

    2. Keep everyone educated!

Region play is also very essential.
