    Hello guys,

I have an issue with videos appearing blocky when playing games, I can see visible square blocks when in-game videos (Including the introduction) are being played.

I have no issues with the game play nor other kind of videos, such as movies.

    I'm on Nvidia 9600M GT,
    ForceWare Driver 180.70

How do I make it play smooth?

It isn't overheating, temperature remains below 65

It happens on Red Alert 3, Need for Speed Undercover and CNC3: Tiberium Wars..

I didn't overclock it at all..

Man, what could be the problem :(

    I have a 9600M GT, and will install Dox's 180.70 tommorow
I will tell you how it goes.

Also, when did you upgrade to 180.70 and was this happening with the games and your previous drivers.

Finally, do cut scenes in other games work fine???

For Red Alert 3, it occurs during introduction and all the cut scenes.
For CNC3, it is the introduction.
For NFS: Undercover, the cut scenes seems to be fine, but it is the loading screens when all the blocky images come out.

I just got this laptop 2 weeks ago, and I didn't modify the GFX apart from updating the drivers.

Temps are fine. I don't think I've seen it go beyond 65C yet.

Did you play any of the games before you upgraded to 180.44, if you did, was there any "blockiness"

Also, can you post an image of the issue, as I'm not too sure what you mean by blocky

correct me if i am wrong but i dont see any "blocky" squares anywhere :S

Let me make the wildest guess out there. Maybe your resolution is set to low? maybe thats what your talking about.

Other than that im out of ideas.

Look at the edges of the first and second picture. You can see distinct blocks of squares in different shades of colors. For the third picture, look at the lower sides of the man's suit.

Those are 'blocky' squares are they not?

The resolution are all set to my native 1280 x 800

Edited: Apparently, it could just be the video codec or renderer, whatever it is... Now the question is, how can I make it run smooth?

    It's most likely either...

    -Just plain crappy quality videos.

    or

    -A codec issue.

If its a codec issue, why not install K-lite mega codec pack

it's free, I use it and its great with videos.
Don't think games need those codecs though

Codecs can interfere with games though, I know ffdshow in particular and a few other codecs can create problems with fallout 3.

Most games shouldn't actually require codecs, even if they were to discretely install the codec with the game, because codecs can interfere with other codecs the user might have installed as well. A ported game however might come with some codecs I suppose.
