I have a quick question about my laptop screen blurring...
My (old, soon to be replaced) laptop is an HP ZT3000 with ATI M9200 video.

When I scroll up or down the screen gets so blurry its pretty much unreadable. Is this problem a screen issue or a video card issue or a combination of both?
Anything I can do for this?

    thanks

    Hi.

I sound like you need to re-install the video driver.

    Regards

    John.

I have been looking for video drivers, as I have never updated the drivers from when it was new. However I dont see any for the 9200M on ATI's site... maybe its too old?

any ideas on updated drivers for this card?

screen is doing the same thing (the actual monitor not what you see) weather you move the mouse or not so its not a screen issue.

There is ether some kind of software messing you up, and possibly like stated above your drivers are messed up. If you cant find new drivers at least uninstall your current ones completely and clean your system with drivercleanerpro to make sure you get rid of any corrupted bits that dont come out with a normal uninstall, then reinstall them fresh with proper installation methods.

Also why dont you try booting into safe mode and see if the problem is there? It will give us abit more information on what to look for.

OK, I downloaded the newest driver from the HP website and installed it, but under the driver list its not showing the same driver as what HP said I downloaded!? Im confused.

    What I downloaded:
    Release Date: 2005-04-10
    Version: 7.98-040120a-014371C B

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...en&cc=us&lang=en&os=228&product=425542&dlc=en

The driver still shows: version 6.14.10.6422, 1/2004.

I dont know what I did wrong

google "proper video card drive installation" or something like that. You may need to follow all the steps like uninstalling the drivers first, using safe mode to work in, drivercleaner, ect.

It's not your drivers, it's your screen.

The response time on such an old screen is nowhere near the desktops of the day, and nowhere near the current laptop LCDs.

Simple test, go into your screen saver, turn on the scrolling marquee and then set it to ever fast levels, if it blurs at low level then it's definitey the LCD.

If you feel you MUST reinstall your drivers, then go drab drivercleaner Pro and read the help file first.

    Hi.

It sounds like he has had the laptop for a while, and i think he would have noticed if it was a screen problem, most likely to be drivers.

same thing happens to me when i install the standard VGA driver, his is faulty and running at low speed, hence the blurring

    Regards

    John.

He didn't say it was a new issue, just that it happens.
And I still doubt it would be drivers in such a limited 2D situation.
Also if he hasn't updated the drivers, then that hasn't changed, and it's just as likely if not more so that it would be a corrupt DX update than drivers.

People are too quick to blame drivers, when often it's not.

That's a different issue that's essentially off resolution/refresh issues which would affect everything, not just scrolling.

Hey, have at 'er fresh driver install every now and then is good, just like a while new install to avoid bit-rot, but I doubt it'll do much.

This isnt a new problem. this computer has always had a blurry-ish image when scrolling. Text on word files or internet pages look very crisp and nice when stationary, but when scrolled its just unreadable. Its just more obvious to me now when I compare it to my new (10/07) Samsung 22" LCD desktop monitor.

oh scrolling webpages and things, thought you just meant moving your mouse cursor.

Well that can be a "refresh rate" issue, also you can change scrolling options in your browser. Firefox for example stock does not have smooth scrolling turned on so it just sort of "jumps" from one spot to the next.

I would have to agree with TGGA on this one. In 2D mode the screen blurs out if i scroll up or down fast. I have good drivers that work so know mine is just poor LCD response time.

Wow, did not see the last two post untill AFTER posting...
