Cool trailer, but I will pass...

 

The character faces look strange compared to BL2. It's like they gained some fat or wearing a mask. Maybe due to new lighting and shadows in new engine.

 

PASS.

2K Games, that says it all.

It will be an Epic Exclusive, cause 2K Games are scum.

Even if I'm wrong, which I highly doubt, I'll still pass. 2K Games clearly has demonstrated to me they don't care about gamers, they care more about EPIC money to give their top 1% management additional bonuses. 2K Games knew Obsidian were loyal to their fans, and knew Obisidian were against Epic Exclusivity, but told their devs, F off, we need our bonuses.

Also Randy Pitchford, seriously, what a dick.
- Recently accused of taking 12 milllion from his own studio, tried to hide it, tried to get away without his employees know he was padding his own pockets, meanwhile saying FU to them.
- Former VP of Gearbox and General Counsel Attorney have ACCUSED him possessing under-age PORN... and using company funds to host pedophile parties.
- May not be true, dunno, but honestly accusations like this is ridiculous. This is moronic behavior from a CEO.
- Stole Sega money and gave us the pile of garbage Aliens. And then proceeded to insult and blame journalists and frankly us gamers.
- Knew how much people were waiting for Duke Nukem, rushed it, released another pile of garbage.
- Released BulletStorm for a 2nd time, w/o any noticable improvements, charged full price, said FU to BulletStorm owners, no discount, nuthin.
- We wanted Borderlands 3, we got the garbage that was Pre-Sequel. A tedious game that had lazy writing and frankly wasn't fun.
- He knew fans were waiting for Borderlands 3, delayed, delayed, silence.
- Released Battleborn, cause greed, and it sucked. Instead of BL3, he wanted a live service monetized rubbish, treated gamers as if they were stupid.
- And after years and years and years of failure, Borderlands 3. Which I'm sure will have micro transactions out the butt, no thanks.

 

Ruh Oh! I haven't evennplayed Borderlands 2 yet! Time to find it for a bargain and catch up.

 

Definitely a great game, I highly recommend it. I was super excited about 3...until reading Zymphad's post. Now I'm much more cautious, but still with a bit of anticipation.

 

Yeah Im no fan of the Epic game store. I've seen enough that I refuse to download their store out of principle. I'll stick to GOG and Steam. So I wouldn't be playing it until it came to the masses. Though seeing as I haven't played two yet you can tell I'm patient.

I want to know more about 2K's plans to monetize Borderlands 3.

We all know this is not Borderlands 2. We all know 2K, they want that Fortnite money. So what's the catch. I want to know how 2K and Gearbox are going to parcel out the game and screw me out of game content for monetization.

I'm overly negative, but Randy failed to get his piles of MOBA money, i can only imagine he thought, well I still have BL3. There are still opportunities for monetization, BL3.

 

A bunch of my friends absolutely loved Borderlands and kept pushing me to play it but I just can't get around to the cartoony graphics. No matter how good a game is, if it looks like that, I just can't take it seriously, or enjoy it...

One of the more 'hardcore' ones kept telling me that after playing Borderlands for many many hours at a time, he would see real life with cartoony graphics too until his brain adjusted. Must have been some experience.

 

Agreed, loot boxes and all that is an instant deal-breaker and I think it's almost certain that something along those lines will be the case. Just another game that I may play 10 years from now when they're willing to sell me the full thing for a fraction of what I would have paid today for the full thing. Screw em.

Garbage clickbait sites like Polygon and Kotaku can go screw themselves, their opinion is absolutely irrelevant. From what I have personally seen on Reddit and many Discord channels people who liked BL2 also liked what they have seen in trailer.

It at least *appearing* on Epic is consistent with the logos seen in a deleted tweet captured above (look at the lower left -- Epic, 2K Games, Gearbox logos; no Steam logo. No XBox/PS logo, though, which gives me pause.)

Possibly April Fool's, but not in terribly great taste if true, and it would hardly be the first 2K-published game to be an EGS exclusive -- 2K's Private Division label made a similar choice for "The Outer Worlds", after all, just for a year rather than six months.

 

6 months is a shorter time to wait to buy it on Steam, and reduces the deluge of "new" IP exiting Epic about a year from now, so I'm all for staggering the "exclusive" duration.

Next, a 3 month exclusive.

Then a 45 day exclusive.

Finally, simultaneous release on all PC Store outlets moving forward.

Why can't Epic do that now and build their brand through innovation in services? Seems the legit way to do it. In fact that is what I would have expected Epic to do. Maybe offer free games like they started to build interest.

Epic really shot the market out from under themselves with the approach Tencent motivated them to take.

I've actually seen this before with cross-cultural missteps. Epic should have stood up to the Chinese guys and told them "Hey, hold on, that's not going to work out well here", Epic should have known better and helped their enthusiastic backers out by making them understand before all this went badly.

The funny thing is Steam can sit there and watch until Epic is out of bullet's to shoot themselves in the foot - or Epic run's out of toes.

Then Steam can have a new annual Big Game Sale to "Celebrate the Death of PC Exclusives".

I like how this is going.

People are not going to be happy about the borderlands 3 leaks that give us a release date but also tell us it's likely to be an epic game store exclusive.

 

Well color me surprised, Borderlands does look like it's fun. I've played B2 for a while last night and the cartoony graphics so far don't seem to bother me as much as I expected it to. Didn't get far though, only did the mission to give the little dude his eye back and clear out the first location.

But yeah, I have no problems skipping Borderlands 3 if it'll be an epic exclusive.


I always do this. Immediately after getting a shiny new piece of hardware, which can run the latest games maxed out, I start discovering older or smaller games which would work just fine on my 'old' laptop too. It's possible also that I don't like how loud the new laptop is when running hot

Look at the rhetoric of all these Dev CEOs and Publisher CEOs. We are no longer gamers. We are no longer fans. We are no longer collaborators. Remember there was a time Gearbox was open to feedback? Give feedback to Randy Pitchford today and he will call you entitled, loser, consspiracy lunatic. Yes the CEO of the largest gaming studio from Australia will call you names on Twitter if you give him any feedback. We are now referred to as CONSUMERS. That's all we are now. The state of AAA gaming is so sad.

The behavior of management of these publishers and developers are unbelievable. I am absolutely shocked at the responses on twitter, on blogs. Outright antagonistic towards anyone who won't shut up and just buy all their microtransactions and DLCs.

Tim Sweeney. WTF? Are you serious? Has there ever been in a time in entertainment in which a CEO has said, customers don't matter? Customers will not dictate supply and demand? Time Sweeney and TenCent are the most anti-capitalist, anti-consumer I have ever witnessed, it's unbelievabley shocking.

Enjoy your $80 BL3 pre-order that comes with BS like XP boost, Loot drop boost and cometics.

Enjoy your $100 BL3 pre-order for DLCs that were just removed from the original game and released over period of a year.

Enjoy Take Two and Gearbox finding other ways to rape your wallet.

 

This (and microtransactions)! ...is one of the most annoying things going on currently in gaming. Nothing is anymore about making a good game. It's all about how can we make the plebs pay more? Lie with trailers to make them pre-order, make the first part of the game good so they pass the refund time, remove obvious content just to make them pay for DLCs, microtransactions?

In all honesty it's not even the devs/publishers fault... it's all made possible because of the sheep nation consumers who will gladly pay for anything and end up even defending the publishers saying that they have to eat too... *facepalm*

 

Honestly I do not mind paying for DLCs as long as the quality of the game is good. I really enjoyed BL and BL2 and I paid for DLCs for BL2 such as awesome Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep which was well worth it. Would I like DLCs to be free? Yes, of course. But like I said, if the content is good - I have no issues paying for it.
And as for BL3 - I'll decide whether it is worth buying an optional DLCs after I'll play the actual game. If the game itself would be too shallow and too short - I could definitely decide not to buy any future DLCs.

Why couldn't Pitchford simply say, hey in the heat of the moment on the stage I mispoke, and didn't mean to say what I said, here's what I really meant. Instead he comes off as an idiot that doesn't understand what "microtransactions" really are - instead he's defending the indefensible and name calling those people he should be treating like gold.

It almost makes me not want to play the game when Steam releases it in 6 months... Nah, BL3 looks like a great game, and I hope to enjoy it when it hits a Steam sale after release.

The Voice Actor for CLAPTRAP from the Borderlands Games has taken to Twitter to challenge RANDY PITCHFORD about unpaid royalties and also a Physical Assault that he claims he did a couple of years ago!!

 

I try hard not to develop opinions on these things because often it turns out the gossip isn't accurate but even before all this I got the feeling Randy P. was a bit of a Richard after watching him in a presentation. Then again Bill Gates comes off as an ordinary nice guy type but I read in actually he was and is ready to cut throats, the very epitome of a shrewd, calculating, and brilliant business man. Maybe it's being an old man that does it but right now I'm not seeing any objective evidence of what went down while knowing very well that people don't like getting canned even when they well and truly should have been canned. I'm going to try and keep an open mind for the moment. Not saying a level of turgidity wasn't present; just not seeing any objective evidence at the moment.

 

Dunno why all the reviews ignore Randy is selling XP Boosts and Loot Boosts. That is pay to win to me.

Though it is PVE so to me paying so you don't have to play as much is really weird.

 

Ah, Randy is using Ubisoft model I see.
