Backup your two .ini files named WillowEngine.ini and WillowInput.ini before replacing them with my tweaked ini files.

Also included is an SLI profile for Borderlands, though you have to have Nhancer installed and import it to Nhancer.

However the game runs like a dream on my XPS M1730 maxed out 1920x1200. Smooth as butter, so I hope there is more SLI users out there that benefits from this profile. Non SLI users can still copy the ini files and see if you get any improvement.

Though be sure to turn on Flareouts in the Video options, since this seems disabled when using these configs, that is if you prefer Flareouts of course.

I'm just bumping this because Magnus is a legend, and made number of other custom files for games on the 1730 that made them run N times better than default settings. His Crysis: Warhead tweak file was in particular very good, and allowed for 30+ FPS on our machines with all HIGH settings.

So, trust him, and try the file.

Yes feedback is appreciated. I hope it works better for those that have framerate problems. It solved mine that I had.

Magnus, will the updated INI files help crossfire users as well (AW m17)?

    Thanks!

same question as above. I don't have an SLI setup (see sig), but any performance gains = win.

I replaced this config with the vanilla, and I am seeing an improvement in overall FPS.
I can play on max settings, with only a little slowdown now.

    Thanks very much Magnus72 :) (+Rep)

Hi :) I give you my thanks for the config, everything works smoothly :) Well except one thing,(sorry if you consider it offtopic as it clearly isn't the config fault),every once in a while, maybe every 30 sec, I experience 5 sec freezes (the sound doesn't freeze though). Any advice?

Great guys, good to know it works for you too. Yes if you have Nhancer installed I fixed an SLI profile for it, so for SLI users it will give more benefit. Just import the nhancer profile into nhancer :)

Sadly I agree with you Mac7master I also get the 5 sec freezes occasionally in some areas, seems like this is an SLI issue. Running single GPU solves this, so definitely an SLI issue. More reports about this is all over the web. So a patch is definitely needed. If you have a single GPU then I don´t know why you get those 5 secs freezes since I don´t get those in single GPU mode.

YEah and is this only for SLI users or....

The only setting that is troublesome for me is the dynamic shadows; this kills performance.

I played around with the nhancer profile a bit and noticed if you set the SLI mode to Single GPU Mode that 5 sec freeze disappears while still keeping SLI performance. So for now that is a fix. I can update the config.zip file of course.

ryokowashu I have tweaked Gears of War and Mirrors Edge too which use the almost same ini file structure. There is quite a few variables I have changed in the ini file. You can of course check and compare to the original ini file if you want.

But overall you can increase the visual quality a bit like I did for my Gears of War tweaked config for instance ;) Also increase performance of course by playing around with the variables in the ini file.

Yep, I'm not running on SLI and still have freezes. It's annoying and wierd as the game runs like a charm on full details... You're right though it only occurs in some areas but the thing is that I don't think that's the game problem coz on my other PC it runs without these freezes (maybe the problem is with Vista ultimate?) On the other note I noticed the same problems with "Prototype" but the freezes weren't as long as in "Borderlands".

ZP=WIN, if you look in 'My Games' in your document folder, the Borderlands configs will be in there, in 'WillowGame > Config'.

Hi Magnus, I just downloaded the file and I double clicked on the Borderlands Tweak. It replaced the previous Borderlands file in nHancer but now I'm wondering how do I replace the .ini files? Also, in order for the Borderlands Tweaked profile to be working in the game, do I keep nHancer open for the effects? Thank you.

Thank you. This is my final question, if I want the profile to work, do I simply just open nHancer and leave it open or do I have to into Tools > Activate Profile?

Just import it into Nhancer and it is activated by default.

Allright I got Borderlands to run even smoother. Try this config and replace it with the WillowEngine.ini in your Users/Documents/My Games/Borderlands/WillowGame/Config.

Magnus72 could you tell us what the general changes are? For instance have you sacrificed quality for performance visually or just optimized some stuff or what?

^^ Ya as above. You should paste the changes in your 1st post. And you seem to be very illusive to people's questions.

For anyone who wants to do their own tweaks here's a good starting point. Particularly disabling mouse smoothing, increasing FOV, switching crouch toggle to no toggle etc...

Well try the config and compare, the only thing you need to turn on manually is Flare outs in the video options. I removed the black outlines, changed different variables to make it run smoother. If anyone is interested just compare my config with the regular one.

I have kept everything intact, disabled mouse smoothing of course. You know I am not new to this since I have optimized other U3 engine games like Gears of War and Mirror´s Edge.
