So I bought Borderlands GOTY edition and loving it so far (kinda reminds me of Fallout 3). I'm interested in trying some co-op with Steam friends but I have a few questions.

    1) Do I have to make a Gamespy account in order to play? Is there any way around this?
    2) What part of the game would you recommend starting co-op? I've just killed Sledge in the beginning zone and I'm level 19. Some of the quests have been really challenging with the majority of them being a cake walk, so will co-op kinda ruin the fun factor by making it too easy?

    Thanks!

    1) Yes you have to make a Gamespy account. Not a big deal though since your characters aren't tied to it.
    2) Start at any level. It's not going to get easier because the enemies will become tougher. Just need to find the right teammates that won't hog all the good weapons that might drop.

As long as we're on the subject of Borderlands multiplayer, I've never been able to get it to work. Ever. It will see servers, but it cannot connect (always times out). I've tried adding manual exceptions to my firewall, and this problem has persisted even through a reinstall of Windows (for other reasons, though).

The game was actually made with 4 player co-op in mind. Remember that the more players you have playing, the tougher the enemies become. I used to play alot with a friend over the internet, it worked quite well. Good fun as well. Only thing that somewhat annoyed me was you kinda lost track of the story as your friend accepted the missions and you just went along for the ride.

Yea in multiplayer unless you care about the story, beat single player yourself or go through it with a friend from your mission. Because depending on if you join other people, they might be further ahead in missions or if you played with people that have completed what you have done, they would just go ahead and finished those objective without you. Which ruined the fun of the game...

I see I see. Thank you for the responses! +rep

Another quick question. The version of Borderlands I bought came with all the DLCs. How/when should I access them?

The DLC is in game, whenever you access those teleport poles (where you choose where to go) you can select one of the locations that are added by the DLC and that's it.

The game is a lot more fun with co-op if you can find good people. People who don't just grab all the loot mindlessly but everyone asking hey, this is better for your character. Like a Brick taking all the sniper rifles, that's annoying. Having buddies that will revive, a good support soldier for ammo helps so your team doesn't waste time gathering ammo or stopping at vendors for ammo.

It's tough to find a good co-op player since I find a lot of players play to farm loot or if you find a low level game, likely someone re-rolling and just blasting through. That's why playing single player first and then MP might be better so you don't lose out on the story and pace yourself. Then do MP where you are just going for harder bosses and better loot.

Also, don't forgot you get some cheaters in the game like where their shield never goes down or they have a gun that does one shot kill.
