Borderlands: Your favorite/best weapons & gear

With the randomly generated weapon system there is so many things each of us may find in this game. With luck a good find can totally change how you play and how easy/hard the game is.

I was sticking behind cover with a handgun until I found a class mod for the Siren that gave me +40% SMG damage and regens SMG ammo at a fast rate, shortly after I found my first good SMG, suddenly I was rambo just running into fights guns blazing taking down anything that looked at me in seconds.

Its getting even better now that I am getting more class skills to use my special more often.

Here is my best SMG, its already high damage and already high fire rate stack with my damage boost skills and rate of fire skills making this the ooze of death!

And while this weapon is not as good for me in most situations, by all rights its the best weapon I have and something I bet quite a few hunters will drool over

Comes in really handy for those turrets and stuff that shoot you from super far away, a crit shot with this kills anything except super high HP enemies, but then they are on fire so by the time to get to me they just drop dead.

The game lets you take screenshots of your weapons just right click and select "save screenshot" it will then be in the folder C:\Users\Your Useer Name\Documents\My Games\Borderlands\WillowGame\ScreenShots

My best weapon so far that I have is for my Soldier class (Support Gunner)
It is a S&S Munitions SPR330 Fatal Crux shotgun. Cross their heart, hope they die.
DMG: 130x7
ACC: 86.4
RATE: 1
Plus 57% DMG and with x2 explosion. Magazine size is 25 overall. Would take a pic but I have the 360 version.

 

Damn vicious i want that sniper, is that a quest item? and confrence that shotgun has some ridiculous damage

I have a revolver that i like that does around 240 damage but only holds 2 bullets, so it's like a long distance / condensed shotgun

Another fun gun i came across was this rocket launcher that burst fired 5 rounds (its entire mag) but it also had a spread so the rockets would be really inaccurate, i guess it would be good for big targets like skagzilla but that's rare from what i've seen so far so i sold it, I really wish there was some sort of bank/stash

one of my latest favorite gear is a new shield i jsut bought, gives like 340 shields with 42 regen, but also has health regen, which is my first shield with health regen

you guys should also post your favorite grenade mods, i like transfusion if i'm really dying, ruberrized explosion is my highest damage one though and is the one I always have up (plus it's fun to watch the grenades slowly bounce towards its victim) I just got the raining grenades from skagzilla yesterday i'm gonna have to try out that

have you guys ran into any actually unique guns yet like a shotgun that shoots rockets or something like that? THOSE are the guns I wanna see really

 

Yup I ran into one just now. It uses shotgun ammo but shoot rockets, although I prefer using a rocket launcher for actual killing because this gun doesn't do as much as the rocket launchers.


Here's the rocket launcher I'm using right now, which seems decent.
(although I can't seem to hit any vehicles with my rockets. Is it just me or do the rocket in this game travel quite slow...? I had a hard time against Mad Mel. >_>)


Here's the shotgun I really like and I have been using it for a while now. The damage number may seem low but it electrocutes enemies very frequently (which does surprisingly good damage against most enemies) and has very good accuracy for a shotgun even at long range. When I was using it my brother thought I was using a 1 shot 1 kill sniper...lol

Favorite weapons (Soldier) are a MG with 56 dmg, 2 x corrosive, 2.7 zoom w/scope, - 44 percent recoil, rate is 10. It rocks! Mag is over 50.

If you have a soldier make sure you get the +(1-9)team ammunition regeneration mod that is available. (+1 through +9). Never have to buy ammo again. Only grenades.

 

I just gained 10 levels today and started my 2nd playthough, my items stayed the same, those 2 above till the very end of the game where I found a few better guns in the last few areas.

On the playthrough though loot looks really good! even the skags at the start of the game are dropping gear idential looking to near end game mobs from before, and they are like lvl 30ish and a lot stronger. Instead of normal skags they are there advanced form.

That super awesome sniper.... I got it out of a vending machine! I had to sell everything I had on me to buy it but it was worth it, that gun has saved me more than once in some tough situations. SMG's just do not work against those turrets and long range guns.

I'll go play for an hour and post back with my new gear in a bit!


Edit: Got an hour in, lvling is fast with so many high tier enemies comming at you. I hit lvl 40 and I was lvl 37.


No new gear tonight as far as weapons, I just found out you can re-spec lol... so I respeced to elemental to see how effective my x4 fire smg would be, but even with x4 and a 20% talent boost to elemental attacks its hard to set stuff on fire in 2nd playthrough, enemies are tougher than nails. I did find a new shield that is helping me and I respeced again to control and its working well, daze as well as a much faster phase shift cooldown is helping me stay alive alot.

2nd play-through really puts your skills to the test, it puts your fps skills to the max as it takes real skill and stratagy to win and stay alive, you cant just out level or out gear your enemies like you could first play-through.

That said this SMG I found near the end of 1st playthrough is still my strongest and best weapon -

I have found many stronger class mods than the one I use, but still the one I got for lvl 16 is by far the best due to the fast SMG ammo regen and good +dmg% for SMG, I just got into a fight with like 20 Alpha Male Skags that took like 200+ shots each to kill and it was a long long fight and I nearly died like 30x over again, I would have run out of ammo before even half way into the fight without the ammo regen. Shame non of the stronger +skill or +dmg class mods of the same type that I have found yet have ammo regen. Without finding the one I have I do not think I would have even beaten 1st play though yet it made a really big difference, also I do not have to waist time looking for ammo or use secondary weapons that are not my main type I can use SMG only and never mess with ammo.

I have the 3rd ammo extension now so I can hold over 1200 shots on a SMG, some of these harder fights have gotten me down to 400 shots left with regen.... So I know I will have to start raising skill on a 2nd weapon type probably a shotgun.

I had 3 really freaking nice rocket launchers but sold them all because rocket launchers just seem to suck in this game. One of them shot 3 rockets and had a x4 shock. The other was a x4 Fire with a super large zoom. Also I had one with insane damage (over 1000) but it was a one shot so it was useless.

 

Ok, that does it, I'm buying this game now. Damn you for tempting me into it..!!

 

Im loving it, I have not been this into a game since my childhood, I think Jedi Knight and Starcraft.

Even though multiplayer is supposed to be where all the fun is at, for me single player is where I spent all my time because public games I get all these low lvl guys joining my game that dont belong, I need friends to invite from the forums and stuff, all my private games have been fun.

 

good to hear the 2nd playthrough is still holding your interest, I'm kind of looking forward to it now from what you're saying, it sounds more challenging and more threatening, kinda like Diablo going from normal to nightmare

I hopefully won't run into the same ammo problem though as I've been leveling all my gun proficiencies evenly, plus if I do run into ammo problems I can always put more points into my ammo regeneration (<-- soldier ) but I also re-specced recently to focus more on my turret rather than ammo/grenade regeneration since that turret's getting pretty now

vicious did you get any fun grenade mods toward the end of the game?

 

can anyone spare me a rifle with more than 83 dmg or one around there with elemental pls? Rifles are so damn rare and i'm a soldier.

 

btw a question to you vault hunters, what's good about the "explosioin" element?

Shock --> anti-shields
Incendiary --> anti-flesh
Corrosion --> anti-armor
Explosion --> ???

I have a situation and go out of my way to make sure I have guns for the first 3 elements, but everytime I come across an explosion gun, I don't know what to do with it, I think I saw a proc do double damage from an explosion, but, does it do a big area effect/splash damage that I'm not aware of? Because when it triggers, the explosion looked pretty tiny...

 

It does extra damage when it procs, but even with my +20% talent to proc and a x4 gun I dont really see it work often.

Corrosion I have used against armor before and it still seems weak and I dont think I ever saw somebody get poisoned from it. So its all about shock/fire and of the two fire is way better.

Honestly I am going to try a fire build later when I find another good gun my level but I rode through the entire game on neutral damage guns, till you get to the guys with armor/shields that are only vuneralbe in one spot it works great, when you do get to those guys, you better work on your aim

 

same ol' grenade mods just find higher lvl versions with more damage.

Longbow is my favorite and most effective, but right now I am using a 120dmg transfusion grenade since I am finding myself almost dead more often and where dmg is not really important anymore.

Im starting to learn a strategy when fighting really tough guys to purposely leave some weak guys that you could easily pick off alive. When the big dude kills you, pick off the easy guy for a 2nd wind.

There is a lot of almost instant death stuff on 2nd play-through so this seems to be a important tactic.

I just hit lvl 43, need 2 more levels to max out the mind games skill. Its a real life saver and when you guys team up with me you will like the fact I can slow down enemies and make them get worse aim. I also have some good team based class mods like +30% shields or -30% special move cooldown.

 

Yeah you know what, I tried using a corrosion rifle on armored guys, it doesn't seem to do extra damage, I've poisoned the enemies but that doesn't do much either, but yet all the guns dropping near my level now are mostly corrosion based. I did find one that worked nice, it's a quest item i think so you probably ran into it, the blister, a corrosion based shotgun, works pretty nicely (maybe just b/c it's a shotgun)

But yeah, so far I find fire is the best, I haven't found any enemies with ridiculous amounts of shields yet to justify switching to a shock weapon besides guardians. They should have included some robotic enemies or something heh

and damn you're leveling fast, I waste too much time running to stores to sell off my guns heh, and yeah I feel siren's pretty good for crowd control in addition to her assassination abilities, slowing people down, and I heard daze is OP good

 

Hm... Haven't really gotten far in the game but I gotta say elements really do make a huge difference in the damage

 

Just got to newhaven for and dinged lvl 44. I found sithlids are weak to corrosion, I got a new SMG its a very high chance x3 corrosion like 100dmg per shot but 15.8 shots per second so it beats my 110dmg 8.3 shot gun I was using. No scope though and less accurate.

But yeah I did the quest to kill 50 sithlids and they dropped like flys with the corrosion weapon, like 750dmg per shot to the elites.

 

I'm having the best time as a Brawler. When the stuff hits the fan I just go melee and start tearing stuff apart. I come out of it with a full heal 90% of the time and it is hilarious! Freaking love this game.

 

I really like the Transfusion grenade mod; converts damage into HP, saved my tail a bunch of times lol.

 

You guys are really starting to make me like the way this game sounds...LOL.

I was playing around 8 last night. I looked at the clock again after some heavy action and it was midnight. You will lose track of time playing this game if you are playing a 4 player group and everyone talks on their mics. It sucks when people don't talk. I added the 4 guys I played with last night and joined the NBR team so that if someone wants to play they can contact me. I'm still not sure how to join some other NBR players game though. It's not a one click deal like TF2 or other games. This game has mega potential and also has a lot of really stupid issues. Gamespy is a smoking pile of garbage. You have to enable ports to play this game well. I found that enabling the ports even helped me join games which didn't make a lot of sense to me. I experienced a perfect game with 4 people though last night with no lag and just all kinds of gun stomping Fist pounding action. I can't tell you how much fun it is to go Bezerk mode. You seriously have to try it out for yourself.

 

lvl 46, about half way done with 2nd play through.

i got a legendary hellfire 4x smg today and now anything human/flesh is like ez mode. They take extreme damage from the shots and then burn for even more damage.

You can farm some really really good loot easy on 2nd play through inside new haven.

I cant seem to find any good online games ever, I am a tad jealous of you guys that have had these great multiplayer games.

Every public game I ever host I get low lvls in there and people that do not understand there microphone is always on (really should be an option to turn it off or push to talk, yes I know you can turn it off via the .ini file but thats a horrible solution then you cant turn it back on while in game)

Go lvl up guys then you can team up with me to go uber loot hunting, or challenge me in the arena.

 

Been trying to go online with my friend... Apparently my ports are blocked and I'm using Uni internet so unblocking them is not an option

Just found out you can boot somebody from the game if your host, so I can take care of those low lvls , now to fix that mic problem....

So guess I'll try online and host a game soon as this youtube video is done uploading. I put together a gameplay clip. I will do many more I think in the near future.

and damn, you cut the vid off at a bad time, i was just getting excited seeing how you'd do running into the middle of that camp of bandits good vid, and btw when your steam made that noise, it made me check mine, I was kind of scratching my head for a bit there lol

 

excellent vid. and yes, I love this game. my Soldier is at level 36. my Siren is at 26. Got my first Erdian weapon. Kinda impractical, but cool for showing off. It's a cannon.

Looking forward to landing an SMG or Assault Rifle with that kind of speed and power. that almost looked like cheating. lol.

 

Got 2 more videos on the way, this time a full quest so it doesnt cut at a strange time. That first one was just a test and one of the clips started at the begining when it was supposed to be at the end (fraps breaks recordings into several smaller clips that have to be put together again)

Its hard to put high quality stuff on youtube as there is the file size limit and time limit too. That SMG above is fast but I have one even faster/stronger now But it shoots bullets in a spiral and uses ammo too fast so its only for emergencies.

I just got the Boomstik from the guy on Thor. Is this the only rocket shotty in the game? If so, I'm a bit dissapointed

 

I just like using my fists. It's great! BEZERK!

 

Beserk is amazing. I love just rushing bosses and beating them to death. Only person that didn't work with was Sledge

 

LOVE THIS GAME, lvl 25 Hunter. I would be higher level but i work now so not too much time to play. Though i do get a few hours in.

 

Really? I did that against Sledge and finished him off just before my berserk ran out of time! He's way too easy.

 

I started a 2nd char, Hunter this time around lvl 20 now.

so I can meet up with a lot of you in the mid 20's for a game now, you do not have to have my lvl 50 Siren killing everything in sight.

Its so sad my Siren is more accurate with a smg than my Hunter is with a sniper rifle and its full auto...

That description is wrong, its almost the exact opposite, it uses 4 rockets per shot but the blast is about 5x larger than normal, its supposed to be the redeemer from unreal tournament. Since it has a 5 round clip I actually get 2 shots off with it and the single rocket shot seems to be just as strong as the 4 rocket shot.

I think monster kill is when you kill 5 people at once or within a quick period of time in UT2004

 

+132%!! so without that modifier the original damage would be like less than 1k, man this gun TOTALLY has the damage of a jakobs! One shot is all you need! (lol we're like those 3 guys in the comic you posted Rip)

Its one shot but uses 4 rockets, in exchange the blast is much larger.

But since the clip is 5 rockets before reload, I can shoot it once and have 1 rocket left, then shoot it again.

The explosion is pretty darn big, in the hands of a Brick with a high Rocket Launcher skill and a class mod/skills for the rocket launcher this thing would be crazy. Not so great for a single enemy but for a group it would be hard to beat.

 

Woah where'd you find that monster of a launcher Being brick i've never really used a launcher much since i find them a bit hard to master... I do love the helix launchers though...

Now apparently I fell in love with eridian weaponry =D

 

they are fun, i found a shotgun, a pistol, a sniper, and a "cannon" on my first playthrough with my soldier so I guess that's lucky since I see a lot of people requesting for trades, the pistol is great since it homes in on the enemies, I can just fire around the corner

 

Only ones i found were a sniper, rifle and a shotgun... Never saw an eridian pistol or cannon

 

oh you should farm yourself a pistol, it's satisfying taking cover to recharge your shields while shooting these homing eridian bolts that'll keep the action going

 

My issue with all the eridian weps I have had is after only a few shots it has to recharge and it takes a while. So the dps on them is rather low due to that and makes them dangerous to use in a big fire fight.

I have only found green versions though and have no proficiency with them, I wonder if I find a more rare version or what higher proficiency levels will do.

 

I use the shotgun and the rifle eridian weapons and when one run out of bullets and start recharching i just switch to the other and by the time it runs out of bullets the other should be fully charged

At lvl7 proficiency I have 18% cooldown rate increase so it recharges quite fast

 

So the cooldown does go up with proficiency, thats what I figured may be the case. So if you invest in it and get up to 50 they maybe pretty good weps.

 

This is the only eridian weapon I found during my first playthrough, about to do it a 2nd time now though. I'm going to keep it since it is a pretty decent weapon, but it's so painfully SLOW!, it can take like 10 seconds just for the energy ball to reach it's target on close/med range. It can only do about 4 shots before needing to recharge which takes about 30 seconds.



This one has been my favorite weapon since I got it when I was level 23, and I'm level 36 now and it's still insanely powerful. Hit an enemy 2-3 times and watch them just burn to death, it lights enemies on fire with EVERY shot, and the fire damage stacks. Even if the shots themselves do 0 damage to an enemy behind a shield, they will catch fire and very quickly burn to death.

 

Meh I like the shotgun.

 

My favorite weapon is the Glorious Massacre...I'm at school right now,but i'll post it up later. Basically, it's a Rifle that has a 50+(more from class upgrades) round clip, and you can unload it for a decent 40 seconds before needing to reload. Quite good for moving through packs of weak skags or midgits w/o reloading.

I just sent my gamespy info to you viscous. I'm like a lvl 20 right now, so idk how that will affect our chances of playing coop or w/e, lol. I'm usually playing later in the evening (after 7pm) due to work/school activities. First playthrough still, just beat up sledge (pretty easy at lvl 20), and thinking about doing more side quests before moving onto the new area that was opened up or w/e.

I seriously have no idea how the coop works. Do the players have to be in the same level or time-frame of conquest?

 

I have a lvl 25 Hunter so we can team up I am sure. You can mix/match any level or time frame for co-op but you usually want to try and stay in your level range.

I have a new goody too, a SMG that owns all + some in the hands of my siren it spells out death for any that oppose me.

It seems like you're very confident with your siren. I can't wait till i get up to 50 to start having some real power in my hands .
