I checked numerous numbers of threads, will Securom just be in place of my PC and is only used for activating and nothing else?

i.e. I don't want my CD drive to fail, or being stripped of access to my MP3s/movies, nor do I want my ability to mount ISOs to begone as well.

Just a bit paranoid here once I put install it and then things go downhill.

Anyone got any info or stuff I should know? Mirror's Edge is a 2008 game (September 2008).

as far as my experiance goes you should be perfectly fine. not completely sure about iso mounting though. i didnt try it with mirrors edge. your cd drive def wont fail, your mp3s and movies will be fine legally obtained or not. i just dont know for sure about the isos. btw, mirrors edge is amazing, you will love it. its one of my top 5 games of all time.

Thanks for that. I took the plunge after reading, oddly enough I didn't need an EA Account as advised, and Securom was almost invisible.

Infact, as there was no start menu entry created, oddlily enough, I had to look through my registry/program files to find it, and found that Securom is indeed in the registry now.

I'm still able to mount ISOs too !

I'd actually think he's just being sarcastic. lol Securom really isn't all that visible, just on the off chance that games get mangled because of it. +rep for sir Vader :D

Yeh I thought he might've sarcastic, however I didn't want to come off as rude hehe.

So far so good anyway, I just need to figure out how to uninstall properly as the game has decided not to give me any start menu entries. However, that's in the future....

it's invisible and works most of the time, but when it doesn't it screws up royally.
be grateful it worked for you.

i had a huge problem with securom which crashed my computer everytime i right clicked a file or folder. used a piece of software called ShellExView to trace it back to securerom. i disabled each 3rd party shell script one by one, and, suprise! with only securom disabled i got my right click back.

after a bit of googling i read that moving the .dll file the shell script is linked to would fix it. i moved the securom file to another folder and never had any problems with the right click or playing games since.

this was about 4-5 months ago.

As with most of EA's games that have Securom built it, you have to de-authorize the game prior to uninstalling it. This lets you re-use the license elsewhere, as each purchase gives you a 5 installation limit.

Here is a link for the different games, and their respective de-authorization tools:

SecuROM (aka "SuckuROM") has never got in my way, though i dislike the idea of this activation crap. But that's offtopic.

I've never had any system failures due to SecuROM. I also recently purchased Mirror's Edge (amazing with PhysX on), and nothing bad has happened so far. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you are super paranoid however, just backup everything prior to the installation so that if disaster strikes, you're covered.

I have 2 games here on my laptop with EA's Securom. Dead Space and Mass Effect. I can honestly say that I haven't experienced any problems at all with em.

The good thing about those games is the NO DVD required to play feature. The annoying thing is having to de-authorize the game before uninstalling to preserve your installation limits.
