Im thinking of buying a Asus g750JH (second hand for cheaper) with its 780m or a notebook with an 860m.
What would be the better choice?

LOL, all of this hype is doing more harm than good, it seems. I can't believe you're comparing the 780M to the 860M... Go with the 780M.

The 880M is already out and is proven to only be about 6%-10% better than the 780M. FYI: The "880MX" is a term we made up for what we hope is the "next best high end" mobile GPU on Maxwell. There's no information beyond that, for all we know it may not ever even exist, or could be named 885M or 890M - we just don't know.

So, what I'm trying to say is: Just go with the 780M. There's no point in sitting around waiting in hopes that there's something better coming soon because there will always be something better "coming soon." ;)

GTX 780M is much better than GTX 860M.
GTX 860M is more down to GTX 770M level.

That said, if you are not in a rush, and money will be no problem, you would be much better off by waiting and see what happens in the coming months up to the end of June.
Kepler (600M,700M) will be dead this year and replaced by Maxwell.

I have to have a gaming laptop in april, so there's still time. But not only the power of the GPU is important to me, also the more cool running GPU and less energy consuming has a high priority to me.

You can`t have both. Well you can, and that will be Maxwell. SinOfLiberty said a mid/high end Maxwell will be running Microsofts DX12 presentation, but its not confirmed nor do we know when that GPU is launching. So nobody knows when they are really coming. Thats why I said you should wait 3-4 months. But since thats not an option:

GTX 780M is 40% faster than GTX 770M. GTX 860M is around that 770M. It will be much cooler and will sip energy compared to the power hog GTX 780M.
That is the real deal. 780M is much faster, 860M is much cooler.

If GTX 860M can overclock like the GTX 750 Ti (which it is based on), you are looking at a 25% difference between GTX 860M overclocked and GTX 780M stock.
Most notebooks today have Optimus, which let you switch off the GTX 780M and use the IGP on the CPU to preserve power. So if you are looking at great performance and good battery life while not gaming and don`t mind the heat, GTX 780M is for you.

Yup, the 780M is very strong and considering you're getting it second hand the price/performance ratio should be perfect. The Asus also has a good cooling system.

780M (& 880M) are the best you can get in the first half of this year. High-end Maxwell replacement for 780M/880M will not be unveiled until the summer at the earliest.

I'm hoping that this new 880MX (or whatever it'll be called) will be MXM compatible with current MXM Clevo laptops. Hopefully someone can mod this functionality in.
