    Hello everybody

Is there a way to buy Team Fortress 2 without buying the entire Orange Box? I'm not a big fan of Half Life games (don't crucify me, I'm not a fan of shooters in general), and I've played Portal at my friend's house before. I also played TF2 at a friend's house and found it to be very addicting... so, is there a way to only buy Team Fortress 2?

Edit: I know it can be bought on Steam, but I don't want to install Steam on my computer :(

    Thank you!

You can buy TF 2 alot fro $29.99 ...alittle pricey me thinks... :p

1st you need to download steam, then search for the game on steam and buy it off that :) the game will download straight to your hdd.

I refuse to install steam! =P

    Another 3 questions...

    1. Is it possible to buy it off of other people?
    2. Does that game remind anyone of The Incredibles?
    3. Do you think I can play it on highest setting?

well if you don't install steam than Team Fortress 2 won't work cuz its online only and has to go threw steam, or unless u illegally download it & play it without steam, but than you will have to find cracked servers which are very hard to find. so you really need steam to play it.

So if I just buy Orange Box from Bestbuy or something, I still need to install Steam to play the game??

Yes I think thats the only way. I bought The Orange Box just for TF2 but...I don't plan on playing any Half Life games now or in the near future might try portal when TF2 gets boring (lol? Thats like never?)...

I find the thing to be very unorganized and messy. Like Limewire (which I also refuse to install despite the money I could've saved from not buying a crap load of CDs). The downloaded and incomplete games, demos, trailers, etc get all over the place, and I like to keep my computer neat.

The only time I've seen it, it was very unorganized and messy. A single downloaded game has a crap load of different files with weird extensions and need to be installed in some weird way. Like Limewire, it's very unorganized. I've used both of them before, didn't like either one.

LOL...KGann your right...we are not here to discuss or argue about steam...many people find steam very useful...

If you wanna play TF2 on PC that is your only choice.

In my opinion, not installing steam is a dumb reason not to play TF2 lol. Steam is fine, and anyways, who goes into the Program Files folder just to look through the different subfolders? Weird Much. Either way, get TF2, install steam, enjoy it.

They all go into one single folder called "steamapps", and they're very clearly named. The only extension they use is .gcf [for game contents, that is] (rarely .ncf) and it's not all that hard, really. "Steam is not organized" is not a bad reason, IMO. I know that Steam was atrocious crap back in the day but now it's a million times better.

Screenshot of how it'll look like, once you've installed whatever you want to install. That blurred thing is my steam account sign-in name (just in case if you're wondering). :p.

Yeah I think there's an underlying problem to have "unorganized files"

Why don't you take a look at your registry, but remember, have a defibrillator on hand :D

Steam is actually pretty neat with its file structure. It puts all downloaded games in one main folder (with a clearly named subfolder per game), and they're usually only a handful of files each.

There are plenty of reasons to find Steam annoying, but that one seems to be based more in ignorance than anything else.

And no, you can't play TF2 or any other recent (HL2 and later) Valve game without going through Steam.

I guess they made it neater? That's a good thing... I might consider installing it, but I'll probably get an used Orange Box (if anyone is dumb enough to sell a used OB), or I'll wait for it to go on sail like the Christmas sale at Bestbuy where it only costs $25 for OB. Thanks :)

    Medic!!! :D

To AmazingGracePlayer, I understand why you might have doubts about installing steam, since it was pretty buggy when it was released. But now it is the de facto platform for buying/playing games.

Also, I don't understand why you didn't like Half Life 2. . But to each his own I guess. :D

methinks all of your comments AmazingGracePlayer are leveled at the generally despised ealier stages of steam. it is now quite streamlined. i had steam a while back and only tolerated it because i really needed to beat half life 1 (for some reason) then i deleted it. now i have it again for half life 2 and tf2 etc and it's phenomenal! give it a try ^_^

I didn't like Half Life 1 because I got stuck on the mining cart part. I never played HL2 so I can't say whether I like it or not (where did I say I didn't like HL2? ). But in general, I'm not a fan of FPS at all, mainly because it takes me about 4 to 8 seconds to aim at someone/something :p

About non-steam TF2 servers. Good cracked server list is at http://css.setti.info/servers/list-tf2.php

More servers are of course in Steam but for testing those servers are good. Getting TF2 you will have to do yourself.

One of the best parts of TF2 is that there are so many classes. Sometimes I feel bored of the same old, thats why my favorites are the support classes. Dont feel like shooting? Go engineer or medic and do some building/healing to help your team.

Im dont really like having to run a separate app just to play a game but you should give steam another try. I only started using it because of TF2 and so far it has works great for me.

Why do people like TF2 so much? To me its very shallow and just not very fun compared to other online FPS.

    ..........

there are no words for that comment. tf2 is not shallow. mastering just one class will take you longer than it takes you to beat every half life game
