I am buying a new labtop for gaming purposes mainly and watching movies / listening to music. I was wondering what you think of this especially the graphic card and if its the same or better than my current graphic card at my desktop
my desktop is amd 64bit 3.0ghz / 1gb ram / 256mb 6600 nvidia
..is this labtop stronger (obsiously the intel core is and the ram is) i am just wondering if the graphic card is at the same or better ..if not let me know![]()
Thanks
- if you got a coupn for the dell heh let me know

It may be slightly better, but not much. If you want better gaming in a laptop, you need to go with something like a Radeon X1600 (for mobility) or a GeForce 7900 (for more of a desktop replacement).

I basically just want to play Age Of Empires 3 , Battlefield 2 , Battlefield 2142 and thats it nothing much is going to get me off.
-
you don't need an e1705 for those games... although it depends... do you want a desktop replacement or do you want something you will want to carry around and take with you everywhere?

Your current desktop is going to be noticably faster than the laptop setup. The GeForce 6600 is going to outperform the X1400 by a good margin no matter what. The Core 2 Duo is a good gaming processor, but cannot make up for the performance difference in the video cards.

yea
the x1400 is no where near the nvida 6600
if you're going 17 inch, best get the 7900gs
for games in a notebook, it's mainly the graphics card thats the bottle neck and that would be the case for the x1400
i have a x1400, t7200 and 2gb ram and i can tell you that it can run those games but not bf2 at high. since you're going to have higher res, that would also put more strain on the x1400 -
this depends on the type of notebook its in however... as the dells probably have the x1400 at a certain clock but other notebook manufacturers may have the same graphics cards set at a higher or a lower clock which can affect gaming performance... hypothetically speaking if someone had that card at a significantly higher clock stabilized by the manufacturer stock (came that way) or oc'd (done by himself), then it may or may not be able to play that game at high res...
so essentially with a little arctic silver 5 and added cooling you might be able to overclock it a tad and allow it to play those games for you...
at high settings on lower resolutions... -
I want to carry it everywhere I go ...question the DELL site when I try to order a laptob it shows only as Integrated / x1400 and the Geforce but nothing on the 1600 how do I get a lower quality video card or etc? I am most familiar with nvidia / -
well minus the video you have a nice setup. With a stronger video card youll be able to do pretty much anything at all.
-
Just add the 7900GS. And if you're working on a budget, drop the hard drive down, or even the RAM if you have to. 1GB of RAM is still good and I run all the latest games at highest settings with minimal lag. 2 gigs helps, but you can always upgrade that later for much cheaper than Dell would charge you; it's a lot more of a hassle to upgrade the GPU. And the E1705 comes only with GMA950, x1400 or 7900GS. No in between options.
Buying a new notebook , what can I do with these specs?
