Anyone know how to bypass the error when trying to run Crysis when it says "Video card not supported"? I'm going to try to finagle options to get it to run on my Eee, but need to get past that first.

Or is there a "Safe Mode" option that the game can be run with?

Please don't tell me not to even bother. I want to experiment, so only helpful replies please.

First off, there is no chance in hell you will get it to work on your EEE pc.

When it says video card no supported, can you play the game at all? There is a directory which you might be able to edit so Crysis will work.

    Which directory is that?

Crysis has a lot of configuration files, and seems quite scalable, so I wanted to tinker with it to see if I could get it running.

All I get when I start it is the error message, then click "OK" or "CANCEL" both of which takes me back to desktop. The error message basically states that the video card is not supported, and the things might not display properly. That's fine, but it won't let me start the game at all.

Does the EEE even have a 3D display driver? I thought the EEE was only design to run 2D applications.

EEE has an incredibly weak GPU, so weak in fact that you'd have a hard time playing anything modern no matter how well you scale down.

    Pointless...yes. Thread closed...no.

Crysis and scalable are two words that would never be in the same phrase...
Why don't you try Far Cry first?

Ugh. I just want to know if / how there is a way to bypass this startup error. Additional commentary not needed. Thanks :)

Lol, be sure to post screenshots of an EEE pc running Crysis. :) Should be good for a laugh.

BTW, Crysis needed 10 gigs on my HDD. How do did you get it to fit on the EEE pc's tiny HDD?

Yeah, run it on your other PC. :p

No are you gonna get past it unless you know where to poke, it's not an .ini file it's part of the program. So if you want to circumvent it you will need to hack your device ID.
And even if you do get past the check, then you'd need to replace the shaders so that the vertex-less GMA900 with poor PS2.0 support could display properly.

Look at Oblivion as an example of you plight, without moding with OLDblivion, it just displayed flashing white screens regardless of what you did with the .ini file even if you changed deviceID.

I doubt we can classify the EEE pc as a gaming machine any time soon.

Thats how. I thought you tinkered with the install and removed all unneccesary stuff. Guess this works too.

So.. are you putting $4000 computers to shame already? :)

LOL. No. I'm always curious how far you can push techonology backwards. Technology from 2003 running stuff in 2007 is pretty amazing IMHO.

It's amazing to get something like the EEE pc to run anything. :) Still, be sure to post screens. I know some owners of expensive gaming laptops are gonna have a difficult time when they see them. :D

Never could see a clear purpose for the EEE pc myself. I prefer my XPS M1210 as my portable machine.

Don't worry. At the speed the EEE works you can take your time aiming at your enemies. :D Will take awhile before you get someone in your crosshairs at 5 FPS.

    But that's not Half Life 2. It's (I'm guessing) a GTA game

It'll be a sad day for gaming notebooks if they get beaten by the EEE pc.

You have to click on the Half Life 2 link to see the video. It looks pretty smooth indoors, I'm guessing maybe even 25fps.

LOL! I think you can use a USB mouse with the EEE but that may reduce portability. :D

The EEE seems like a fantastic machine for working on the move. And if it can play Half Life 2 at 25fps (indoors) then even more power to the Asus!

Yes eee has potential but be realistic with an athlon 3000 and a 6600gt Crysis framerate vary from to 5fps - 15fps
How can a 900mhz system with integrated graphics makes more that 1 or less fps even at Game Boy resolution ??

A Crysis powerpoint slideshow can be made easily with openoffice (preinstalled in the eee) :D

Maybe this will convince Asus to make an EEE with a 8800M GTX :D.

It'll be just mean to give EEE owners a copy of Crysis with their system to install on it. :)

    I don't think it'll work because the gma900 doesn't have proper ps2 support.

Still, running gta:vc is pretty impressive, altough it got a little laggy when the car rolled over. Seems like the eee is close to humiliating my old pc with a GF4 MX :D :D :D

Its quite impressive for such a small notebook.
Have you tried overclocking it? Go on, I dare you :D
