Any of you guys have tried this game? I just can't seem to get myself to like the new style of RTS wherein there is no resource gathering involved.

Still playing through the tutorial missions and getting confused haha

What're your thoughts on this game?

I tried the multiplayer beta and in my opinion this is the worst C&C game I've ever played, not because it doesn't have base buildings but because everything else in multiplayer just felt totally wrong, DoW2, RA3 and even C&C 3 are way better. :/

No resource gathering = an insult to the entire great C&C serious, and severe dumbing down. I will never buy this or play it.

So am I hearing that EA is doing the same thing to the C&C franchise they did to the SimCity franchise? Damn them and thier unending drive to dumb things down so much they lose thier essential nature.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the whole "have to be online" thing. AC2 got a lot of crap for that.

Seems like they're trying to emulate World in Conflict. I really did not like that RTS and therefore I can't see myself playing C&C4.

It seems to me that companies have gone too far in trying to make RTS games more casual or have shorter play times. I don't want my RTS to be over in 15 to 30 minutes. The sweet spot for me is an hour or two. The complexity of having to manage bases and resources is important because it gives you more ways to play the game than just skilled unit placement and ability use.

Did not really like RA3 (Because of all the crazy tech), but when i see C&C4, im horrified on how it turned out.
Maybe il buy it once it goes down in price just to see how the singleplayer story ends, but other than that il stick to more "advanced" RTS games. xD

WOW, I'm amazed more people didn't throw a fit about the constant internet connection as well! Sheesh, that's the sole reason I refuse to purchase Silent Hunter 5 and AC2... and now this!

    TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!

I am boycotting any games that require a constant internet connection regardless of how much I may like them. I also sent an email to many different public relations, managers or anyone in Ubisoft who may be involved in the decision or sale of such...........

Tried playing the game and I have to say, it is utterly disappointing.

I just don't see the where the strategy comes in when you just keep pumping out units till you win the game, without any form of resource management.

Stunning...especially considering Apoc had said there was absolutely "no DRM" in the game. Leave it to EA to try and redefine what DRM is. Reminds me of the recent Comcast re-branding effort.

I've been having a tough time finding a good RTS game since Sins of a Solar Empire. I wish the DLC/expansions had more content. I've gotten so fed up with the state of the genre I've started my own game. If you want something done right do it yourself!

    What?!?!?

Are the trying to kill PC gaming on purpose?
I mean, sure some will download (pirate) the game but that doesent mean they can screw the PAYING customers.

I think the reason was due to AC2 being more high profile and hyped. i didn't even know about C&C4 similar DRM but then after hearing about the no resource gathering, I stopped caring about it period.

I think I will stick to Tiberian Sun + Total War Mod, that alone is better than anything EA has released and I can play it how ever I wish. If they insist on forcing us to play online then they can forget about ever getting a purchase from me again.

Look to the older titles. I still play BattleZone 2 with the Forgotten Enemies and Fleshstorm Mods. Tiberian Sun + Total War Mod. When the Tiberian Sun Rising Mod for CNC3 is complete that will be worth playing. I might even play Homeworld again. As the new games fail with bloated 24/7 online access required to play, I will be busy playing the back log of older game titles and any new ones that don't insult our freedom regardless of how bad piracy is.

I think it may also not been as big of a deal as there is an emphasis on the online component for the game.

I got it installed last night and started up a quick campaign mission. Enjoyed the cut scenes (hint of nostalgia in the way it started with the channel flipping) but once the game started it went downhill.

The game play seemed neat, but it decided that my internet dropped out (which it didn't) and told me that I would loose all my level progress and would have to restart to gain XP. I called it a night after that and wrote it off to first day server issues.

Now if that keeps up when it try it again tonight, then I'm going to become good friends with EA tech support. At least Silent Hunter 5 doesn't complain about the internet connection until 5-10 minutes have passed and even then it pauses and waits for you to reconnection. If this game is that picky about the internet connectivity, this will be a very annoying campaign.

    @Portman01010

This is exactly why we shouldn't buy titles that use this type of DRM. The more we buy, the more other titles will start coming up with this method. We might even end up having the vast majority of our games being streamed from a server.

It is a real shame that more aren't willing to make a sacrifice for future gaming freedom. If we don't make a stand now, the future will be compulsory internet connections for all games with decreased sales, more frustration for legit paying customers and more piracy once the crackers find a way around it. Some will use the restrictive DRM to justify piracy or as a misguided way of protesting against the DRM. The only real way of protest is not to buy period.

I played a little tonight and it worked fine, I assume my issue was due to it being launch night. Now I just have to figure out how this whole XP thing works. The manual makes it sound like you get XP in the single player game, but everybody in the chat says it's just skirmish and multi player.

I was annoyed about the DRM in Silent Hunter and C&C 4 but I don't want to ignore franchises I've been playing for over a decade. My friend thinks I'm nuts, but I've gotta have my games. :)

I'll get some more time in tomorrow between class and work and report back with more in-depth impressions.
