I don't know if its been posted in this thread but if you want to play as NOD, or set the AI personality (turtle etc.) then left click the box and then left click the grey out option and then press first letter of the word on keyboard

example: you want to play as NOD.

when setting up a skirmish map
left click the arrow on your army (currently GDI), left click NOD, press N on your keyboard. There you go! You're now playing as NOD!

This game rips bigtime! My V1 runs it on high everything with AAX1 (shadows off). Looks great! Need AAX1 though cause jaggies are noticable without it... I'll be buying this one!

Now should I buy in store or get the download? I think in store would be better as you would et a DVD in case you mess up your system?

One of the most enjoyable parts of this game for me was seeing Jennifer Morrison (from House M.D.). :D

The game runs great on my 7800GTX on max everything. And the AI seems to be very balanced to the human player. When the game goes retail, you should notice an option for AI to be balanced or better than you. I have talked to some old friends that are programmer for the game, they told me that their final tests have pegged this AI to be one of the best for any RTS...

    For example:
    - you notice in the Demo when the AI uses the EMP blast, but never really doing anything with it. The retail game AI (if set to a higher difficultly than normal) should be able to have an armor flank you in the spot immediately after using the EMP blast.... OUCH!!

This should be an interesting game, very enjoyable... although getting owned by the AI would feel like the UT series' AI set on Godlike. ;)

Back in college when I played that game too much I could easily get the auto-adjust bots up to Godlike. My buddies and I used to go onto deathmatch servers with auto-adjust bots, get all the bots playing at Godlike, then leave and rejoin as spectators and watch the n00bs become jelly at every respawn ;) It'd clear out a server in a hurry.

Man, those were the days, back before aimbots came out only days after the game...

I'm not going to even try supreme commander because I think my GPU is not sufficient enough to enjoy the game... kinda bummed but that was one of the sacrifices I made when I got my V1. C&C3 is very cool though! Need to try Oblivion to see hoe that will run..... Happy that I can run 90% of the games out there though.

Your GPU will play Supreme Commander. You may need to lower the settings though. The x1700 will play 100% of the games out there. You may just have to slightly lower settings on some of them.

I think I like Supreme Commander better than this... once you get that really far zoom out feature its really hard to go back. I feel like this game is just like Red Alert 2 with pretty graphics, which isn't a bad thing, but it feels a bit boring and played. In an attempt to make the UI more streamlined (an interview in PC Gamer noted on this), I feel like things are confusing and harder to find (where is patrol?), even though it still takes up more of the UI than you think it would if the designers of the game intended it to be "streamlined".

I mean there are new features which are nice (multiple waypoints, all the USEFUL stance options, etc.), but it still has the same old mining and making sure you have enough population, or "electricity" to keep your buildings running.. maybe a little bit more than just a graphical facelift would be nice.

I am in no way saying this is a bad game, it is solid and fun, but there is really nothing here that hasn't been seen before. Then again, not taking risks is what EA is all about.

Oh and I have Supreme Commander (7600, 1.83ghz Core Duo) and it runs fine. I haven't been in any large battles, so I keep it at 1280x800 on lowish settings, although in the campaign with large numbers of units on screen it can get sluggish, so I probably will turn the res down a bit more. An X1700 would run the game fine at 1078 by whatever resolution.

I just had C&C crash on me, the game "shutdown due to severity of issue". My system was slug until it ended the non responding C&C program. Any ideas of what I could do to avoid this hapening again? I had just started a skirmish and did not have a ton of stuff on screen or anthing. I'm running Norton in the background..... (Norton is almost like a virus itself, that I'm afraid to delete as I may cause future issues if not done properly)

Norton is jus a waste of memory. U should try AVG/ perhaps Avast. I personally find that they do the job better than norton and don't take up as much memory usuage? Quick question for ati people. Do you leave catalyst on when running games? and what kinda settings do you leave it on. I mean i leave stuff such as aa or af i put as applicaiton application managed but what about adaptive AA and mipmap detail level? I have always exited CCC and removed it from task manager before playing games. Does it improve/decrease performance having it on?

    Thanks

Norton is now gone. Good riddens. AVG is scanning my V1 as I type.. Windows defender is the next download. My running processes are at 46 from 60 after removing Norton..... my RAM usage went from 600K and change down to 400K and change.... Norton sucks.

If I download C&C3 obviously I do not need a disk.... so, if I buy it is there a way to run without a disk?

Welcome to the wonderful world of free virus scanners. Make sure you run a registry cleaner to make sure Nortons really gone.

Just installed and ran ccleaner. I used it to get rid of any Norton residuals from the registry. Now, as for all the other stuff it says is crap can I delete it all of it without fear of harm to the OS? I can backup the registry but I don't want to have to repair anything if I can avoid it....

OK, C&C3 failed (ended itself) again this morning. It appears that I had a direct 3D error E_OUTOFMEMORY..... How do I fix this? Do I need more RAM, cut back on my graphic settings, or something with X1700 drivers (running on what came with the notebook)? No idea where to get new drivers as ATI lists none under mobility X1700, and I was told by some experienced ppl in here that I'm OK with current drivers.

    C&CFailure.JPG

:update: ran with all settings on high, no shadows, and no AA. No crashing. I alt-tab'd to task manager and found that I'm using a total 1.03 Gb of RAM (system only has 1 Gb). I think I need more! Should of had it installed straight off...
