Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Discussion Thread

    8 days and counting....

earlier in the year the main disscussion point was the battle between Battlefield 3 and MW3
now most of us have had a chance to play B3 its time to discuss MW3 and what we expect of it.

i know this is a crap bit of software but even though im running a 3 year old
m860tu with a P9500 2.5ghz and a 260GTX it says im below cpu spec for mw3 which is very strange as i can play b3 multiplayer without any problems but do get the odd second delay in sound or gun fire now and again in single player. correct me if im wrong but wasnt b3 meant to be the more demanding game out of the two when it came to computer spec.

anyway, i cannot wait and this is the one ive been waiting for since its announcement earlier in the year.

who else is looking forward to it or doesnt give a tos as they are happy
    with B3?

    over to you....

I would probably buy this on sale only, since I only want to see the ending of the epic campaign. As for multiplayer, I think it would be most likely the same as previous CoDs unless I'm proven otherwise. :D

not sure im liking the idea of dedicated servers on unranked games only and ranked using p2p
also elite not available for pc (yet?) so we will have to buy the dlc's every month instead of getting a years worth included with elite.

I will probably buy it because I love the unabashed "AMERICA, (expletive) YEAH!" aspect of the campaigns.

Also considering how they release it at Veteran's Day every year. I might just pick it up to see how it is.

bought the other modern warfare titles and loved the single player... was not a fan of black ops

I already know I'll smash through the single player (which I'm very much looking forward to) and then likely never touch this again as bf3 is all I wanted from a massive multiplayer war experience but this will inevitably stay at the top of the xbox live/pc/ps3 multiplayer charts for months (if not years) to come

dont think it has on release but dont forget that there will be a dlc release every month so i guess one of them will have a zombie mode.
no good to us on pc at mo as no elite sign up so we will have to pay for every dlc instead of getting a years supply with elite.

It was far more pronounced in MW2 (defending Washington DC from those Russkie scumbags) and Black Ops (LOL at the ending http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NtQHTlyrZk).

I'll pick it up for PC. Is it supposed to be more demanding than BF3? I havn't checked the specs for it yet. But to be honest, I havn't even had time to play COD: BO which I bought the day it was launched. I've put maybe 5 hours into it. :(

Has anyone heard any information about pre-loading the game on Steam? It's less than a week before release now and still nothing.
I highly doubt it. It'll be on another derivative Quake III engine. While I'm sure it will be tweaked somewhat just like the last few CoD games, at its core it's running on an engine that's over 10 years old.

so far out of the last 4 major games ive bought there has been NO pre download on steam which always causes problems due to server crashes at steam due to overload.
i was pleasantly surprised with b3 through origin which allowed pre download a week before so i was hoping the same from steam but ive not seen any official confirmation about it yet.

anyone else heard anything appart from the many rumours flying around the net.

I want reviews because they fired/lost half the development studio including the founders of Infinity Ward. I don't know how good a game can be with that kind of talent loss.

Regardless unless they have major improvements this is probably the last MW game I buy, unless we see another COD 2 -> MW1 type of jump in the installment after MW3.

If you can play COD4 MW2 and Blackops with no problems then you'll have no problems playing MW3 since they use the same game engine

I might get MW3 when its on sale so i can play single player only

In terms of the single-player storyline, which games should I have already played? Is this a stand-alone story, or is it a continuation of MW1 and/or MW2 and/or Black Ops? (I've only played MW1).

even if you havnt played any of the previous games then you can still get into this one as i guess you will see flashbacks to previous missions.

MW2 was continuation of MW1. So I suspect MW3 continue where MW2 left off.

Black Ops was a separate story line.

Steam pre-load is on! Downloading as I type this.

As for the campaign, you really should play CoD4:MW and MW2 first; it is a continuous plot.

Yeah, MW 2 was the continuation of the first MW, and this the third will be a continuation of the second game. And if you guys dident know, Treyarch and infinity ward takes shifts to releasing the games. So 1 year IW releases a MW, next year Treyarch releases another one from their own "series?"

Treyarch's series has no continuity, though, and IW is consistently rated higher.

Unfortunately, most of IW was fired after finishing MW2, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

I like how they say that using the same game engine is good thing  . And how they say bf3 looked bad on consoles! I thought the graphics were pretty good though.

Anyway, I plan to get this for xbox. Is the survival going to be 4 players?

CoD BO was selling for $45 a few months after it was released. The only reason I remember this was that I bought it for $60, my friend waited a little while and only paid $45.

I love the the CoD series but I won't be buying it out of protest of Activision.
At this point I plan to rent and then maybe buy a steeply discounted used copy at some point down the road.
I think that the majority of gamers either don't know or don't care that Activision gutted Infinity Ward and proceeded to make more sequals like nothing happened!
I preordered MW2 as well as black ops and spent about 50 dollars on overpriced maps for WaW. This time I'm not going to give them any more money then the cost of a rental. I'm only doing that because I want to play the campaign and see the story play out. I don't care about multiplayer.
This entire franchise has become nothing but a huge cash cow for Activision who treated the devs like they were a bunch of useless wage slaves.

Not a lot of gamers care or even know how developers are treated. The deadlines, the 12-15 hour days, 7 days a week. And they wonder why the games released lately are so shabby.

And I agree, it's truly shameful that Activision continues to use the name Infinity Ward, when they no longer exist. I wonder how current Infinity Ward employees feel, I wonder if they feel like traitors :D It's like worse than scabbing. A slap to the face of all developers who have been mistreated by these massive corporate publishers.

Biggest thing. COD MW single player campaigns are now legendary and the standard for FPS games, they are the pinnacle that others try to reach. And I think a lot of gamers who don't pay attention don't realize the COD MW campaigns were awesome because of the Infinity Ward creator's vision and direction. Treyarch's Black Ops was boring. And I expect a huge let down with MW3, just not the same people at the helm. The former Infinity Ward truly knew how to create cinematic, intense single player campaigns.

COD games were epic because of Jason West and Vince Zampella... With them gone, COD won't be the same. I'll look forward to see what they come up with in the future with Respawn Entertainment. I hope they take the FPS community by huge surprise and be successful.

I think that Treyarch made some progress with Black Ops and they deserve credit for the Zombies mode, but their single player campaigns never gave me the urge to replay like IW did.
I think that after this installment I will walk away from CoD completely.
