Hi guys, i recieved my Alienware M17x yesterday and decided to buy a retail copy of Black ops too. Installed the game with no issues and single player runs perfectly, but when i run multiplayer all that happens is i get the loading sign, the circle going round and round with "fetching stats" underneath. If i press escape it just say "connceting". it will do both of these for 10mins before coming back with a message saying could not connect to servers, check black ops status at cod online etc.
Nothing wrong with call of duty servers and theres nothing wrong with my internet connection or firewall because Crysis runs fine online.
Please help!!!!

Do you have the necessary ports forwarded on your router?
-
Thanks for your response. Now im a complete noob with PC gaming, how do icheck this?
-
Log into your router's control panel. The steps for that are different based on what router you have, so look at your router's manufacturer and model, and look up "[manufacturer] [model] control panel". This will give you the exact instructions and default login info.
As a general rule, try entering 192.168.0.1 into your browser's address bar; that's a pretty common one. A lot of routers use "admin" as both the username and password by default, which you can change later.
If that IP doesn't work, open the Windows command prompt and type ipconfig, and the "Default Gateway" is the IP you should try entering. Also make note of your local IP address, as that's the IP you'll need to forward your ports to.
Once you're logged in to your router's control panel, among all the options and stuff, there should be a "port forwarding" section. This part usually varies between different routers, so I can't really get into specifics.
Anyway, once you get there, the ports you need to forward are:
3074
3478 to 4380
27000 to 27050
And these are all both TCP and UDP.
Also, give this site a look. It's a very good resource for info on port forwarding.

Thanks for that, ive tried what you said and i cant get past entering the details of the first port 3074. it says its in use?
Any ideas?
Thanks. -
Without being familiar with your router, I really can't help much.
Try putting your local IP on the router's DMZ. This basically makes your router as open as possible, which I wouldn't normally advise for everyday circumstances, but it should get Black Ops working, at least. -
hey thanks for your help dude. I managed to enter the correct ports but alas still no luck.
it still says fetching data and sits there loading...........
thanks anyway -
Sorry to hear that. The DMZ might work as a last-ditch measure.
Good luck! -
sorry, whats dmz?

Ok so i spoke with my ISP today and they seem to think its actually something to do with them and they are repairing it now and it should be, convieniently, up and running at 7pm, probably the services center closes!!!
Is this possible? -
It very well could be. Might as well wait and see, right?

Well after all that stress and hassling mastershroom (thanks again by the way) It was the ISP.
I took the Laptop to my Parents house and tried it there, it worked fine.
