COD4 vs COD5? Your Suggestions?

I need a new multiplayer game. TF2 is sweet, but i need a slower paced shooter too. Do you recommend cod4 or cod5? I'm only looking to play multiplayer mode as i've played their campaigns already.

Also...

Can i buy the game here: http://www.agerageshop.net/product_info.php?products_id=233 and then play on the steam network? I've heard the answer is: no.

 

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is much better than Call of Duty World at War.

I was addicted to cod4, I barely care to play world at war...

What are your specs? there are some slowers ones than cod4

CoD:WaW is a decent game not comparing it with anything, but it can't hold a flame to CoD4.

W@W is a decent game, but it's just not on CoD4's level.

And no, you can't activate a retail copy on Steam. You'd have to buy it directly from Steam to do that.

 

that and their are 4x more servers for cod4 than cod5 today.

 

I'm probably the only one that prefers WaW over COD4 because of bolt-action hardcore mode. Plus it has the zombie mode.

That's still gonna save you money The only way that would work if it were a Valve game that can be found retail and therefore you could input the cd-key to tie into your Steam account.

 

dude IMO cod4 it is a lot faster than the cod5
if u like war games i would buy the cod5 since it has a really good story and better gameplay than cod4

i have both and i love cod5
im not saying that cod4 is worse but i like to play cod5 better than 4


if u havent decided yet just download both demos and see which one you prefer but they are both great games

Good call. I like how Steam takes care of all the patches for me, not to mention I can download it on any computer I want in a matter of hours. No disks, ever!

 

If you like gore and the computer constantly swearing and using the f-word every few second then go with cod5. For every other reason go with cod4. Also if you LOVE to constantly be granade spammed then REALLY go with cod5, the ai in cod5 are GRANADE GODS!!!! their nades will land in your lap once every 3 seconds.

 

On second thought, I could've just bought through that site and then connected to my buddies servers by connecting to their ip addresses.

You can still connect via IP in the Steam version. The actual game is identical to the retail version.

 

COD4 for sure. It's still pretty much the only game I play anymore.

 

COD4 all the way. had the beta of WAW but thought it was pants compared to COD4.

if you want a slower paced multiplayer shooter why not try battlefield heroes.

graw2,cod4,ut3 are my fave multiplayers on the pc ^^

 

For multiplayer, COD 4, but honestly I preferred COD 5. I think Call of Duty does world war 2 much better than modern wars. I think the WW2 wars had much more spectacle, walking through demolished european cities etc.

 

the only things that I like about cod5 over cod4 is the gore (limbs flying around everywhere) and that its set on WWII, but the campaign kinda sucks compared to cod4 (I dont feel like theres much replayability on it) and the AI is as smart as a peanut.

Having both, played through both and leveled up max, I have to say CoD4 without a doubt.
The multiplayer is much better and the singleplayer campain is superior to CoD5.

COD4 is superior because it was developed by Infinity Ward, who also developed COD1 and COD2. Treyarch developed COD3 (for consoles) and W@W. While they're games are OK, Infinity Ward are the masters.

COD4 is fantastic, both single and multiplayer.

 

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is...better than W@W

 

CoD 4 is better than CoD WaW, because:
1. It has superior weapons than WaW (I mean if you'd prefer the Thompson submachine gun than the M4A1, stick with WaW)
2. The campaign is in a different warfare, than what we are all used to see in the CoD series (the action differs from the World War I/II).
3. WaW actually uses the same graphics engine as the CoD 4, so there's really no difference in the graphics of the two games.

There haven't been any WWI Call of Duty games. For that matter, have there been any WWI games?

He already made a decision and bought CoD4, like 10 posts ago.

 

You can pick up either game real cheap (through non-official online distribution) and I'm disappointed nobody has supported the zombie mode in COD: WaW.

I know quite a bit of people who own the game haven't even played it yet.

If you don't already have L4D the mode is like a bonus to the game with 4 player coop. With the free DLC on PC they added a new map with new powerups. It feels a lot different than L4D since it's more like "defend the castle", has a true weapon selection, and adds cool perks and powerups. Plus the mystery box adds to the fun. The only downside is that it purposely starts slower and builds up compared to L4D's survival mode where everything hits at once.

EDIT: Map Pack 2 is coming June! with another zombie map!

 

I haven't played the old ones in a while. I must've forgotten what they were about, and I wasn't sure if their campaign was in World War I or II, that's why I said WWI /II.

Really? Either way looks like this thread is going to continue. If the mods decide it ain't necessary no more they'll lock it up.

 

I'm one of those people... bought WaW but still play COD4. It's not that WaW is a bad game, it's just not as fun I find. I'm still on the 4th map after 6 months. I tried the co-op Zombie games, those are pretty fun - gotta get a headset.

I admit, Nazi Zombies mode in CoD: World at War is fun, and pretty innovative on Treyarch's part, but despite the extra feature, I still feel CoD4 is a superior game.

 

Cod4 is a completely different game. It is more of a fast paced shooter online than is cod5. I bought Cod5 just for the campaign and it is way better optimized graphically then cod4

Call of Duty 4 is a very great game, but I think you should wait for Modern Warfare 2 - Its gonna be awesome!

 

i liked both...waw seemed to be more real to me.

Both games are solid, but for multipler, COD 4 all the way.

COD WAW has decent multiplayer and the zombie mode is fun, but COD 4 is just more exciting, fast paced and feels like a more solid game throughout.

 

COD4 ~ONLY~ because in WaW they nerf'd bolt action rifles too much, and dogs seem so much more OP compared to the chopper in COD4. But overall WaW is not bad.

 

I feel as though I'm the only one who likes World at War more than Modern Warfare...

 

Of course it will be awesome if it's "modern"

but yeah call of duty 4 was epic for me never played a game so intense...... i like jumping like a bunny so i can get to the enemy and knife them funny stuff.....my favorite missions were charlie dont surf......and all ghillied up......

I've been away from the site for a while now as Ive been busy gaming cod4 and am loving it so far. The only gripe I have so far is high ping (~60) as there are no local (toronto) servers unlike TF2 (ping is usually ~5)

The only real gripe that I have is the ridiculous spawning. Why does this game insist on spawning me when I will spawn in someones crosshairs. This is absolutely ridiculous, and is responsible for a large number of my deaths. Their goes my k/d ratio.

 

First off, play non-HC S&D servers, and you wont have spawn issues. Second, its a good thing you bought cod4 if a 60 ping bothers you, as most of the cod5 servers are terrible and laggy ( something about the netcode of cod5 is off).

 

Get cod4
then you can wipe your but with cod5 because you have been sitting playing cod4 for so long
