Specs of your desktop, and how it performs vs. D3D 9?
-
I've read other people's experiences on other forums, and the general consensus seems to be that it destroys performance (50+% decrease in framerate) for a marginal increase in graphics quality. Hopefully its just a driver issue, or lack of optimization on Relic's part.

You need a pretty strong card to run it at a playable framerate. Hopefully this is just a technical problem and can be fixed soon. -

Yep I concour nearly 50% frame drop and in most cases you cant see much of an improvement in graphics.
the biggest diffrence is the detailed lighting like on sombodies face.
Its not DX10, its eather poorly coded into the game, or still more work needs to be done on drivers for DX10 cards.
I dont think anybody will get a playable framerate on a notebook with this game and patch. -
Well I tried it out and I don't know where they come up with this 50% loss of framerate nonsense. The game looks awesome, and while there were a a few areas where framerates stuttered a bit it still looked and played great. I haven't had time to do much testing other than the first beach mission, in which the movie sequences looked almost like straight out of Saving Private Ryan.
One thing that could be hurting the framerates in that article is that they used Vista 64. There are no advantages to 64 at this time as there is no software written to run at 64 bit yet. Drivers are way more tricky in 64 than 32. I'm running Vista 32.
My desktop system: Core 2 Duo 6600,8800GTS 640mb, 2GB Corsair RAM, Intel 975bxDx2 MB, running at 1920x1200 Widescreen. -

They are indeed using x64 Vista on that review, I dont see how the x64 drivers can be that much further off but in all fairness I cant fight for a point im not sure off. So I asked some of the guys on my other forum to run test for me to see if they have similar issues.
My vista should be here saturday, but my rig is still a 7800GTX and Opteron 148. Im building a notebook instead of a new desktop since I dont have one.
Maybe 2 years later I'll get a new desktop and I can get a newer DX10 card. -
Here is a video comparison, only difference is when you zoom up to the characters, nothing that great in gameplay

The biggest issue with this who COH Update is that it makes people want to believe that this is the first DX10 game out there atm. Problem is that this is only a patch, not a fully coded from scratch DX10 game.
I've heard from other G80 users is to have the latest Nvidia drivers and make sure your DirectX is up-to-date. June 2007 if I am not mistakened.

It's got real-time shadows and clothes that need ironed! It's totally worth the 50% drop in framerate!
