How much would the .2ghz effect gameplay given these additional specs:

    2gb ddr2 667mhz ram
    Geforce 7950 GTX 512mb GDDR3

I'm trying to decide if the performance boost would really be that great to warrant the extra $150 to go to 2.2ghz.

    Thanks.

gameplay - no increase at all. the stuff that WILL increase is overall performance of apps, loading, etc.

Nope, (I think) it's not worth the 150 dollar extra. The biggest difference is the difference between the 1.8 GHz and 2.0 GHz because (Intel's) processors get 2mb cache memory and that gives a significant improvement. The 0.2 GHz does not give a lot of improvement. The processor is not the slowest part/bottleneck/weakest link of that laptop, the hard drive is. So I'd say: "get the 2.0 GHz processor".

Ok thanks. I can see how there would be more of an increase from the C2D 1.8 with 2mb L2 Cache to the C2D 2.0 which bumps up the L2 Cache to 4mb. Or perhaps from the 2.0 - 2.4...but gameplay is what I'm more concerned with. My current laptop is a 2.0ghz Pentium M, 1gb DDR, Integrated Video....and I'm more than happy with the application speed. As you can tell from the specs, the gaming department is what I'm lacking in :p So if this new laptop increase gaming, but leaves the application speed intact, if no increase at all, then I'm perfectly happy :)

My only other concern with a 2.0ghz proc is having a game tell me I don't have enough machine to run it...I mean a GeForce Go 7950 GTX and 2gb DDR2 should be enough for just about any game, even with a 2.0ghz proc. But I'm hoping that wouldn't happen.

Realistically, the only time that you will see any performance increase is when you are timing something (DVD Ripping, etc). You will not even notice the difference other wise, not even in apps/loading.
