I know I'm likely to be mocked, as my laptop is in no way a "gaming" machine, but If i upgrade my CPU would I be able to get better performance in GTA:SA? Its the only game I play, and i get around 30fps on low settings but it can sometimes drop to 15. So what I'm asking is, would i get better performance from upgrading the CPU, or is the X3100 the bottle neck here? I have seen videos of people with the same X3100 and they can play it at higher settings than me (i use 640x480).

Most likely since GTA games are more CPU intensive from the AI you're running over and brutally murdering. More RAM wouldn't hurt either.

The limiting factor on your notebook will always be your GPU. Although San Adreas is a relatively old game i imagine it still requires a decent GPU. The improvement you would get from a new CPU would be so minimal (only a few frames) that it simply would not be worth the cost or effort. You would be better off saving the money away for your next laptop.

you need a better gpu more than a cpu
you have an integrated gpu and afaik those things arent upgradeable.
maybe better to sell your laptop and buy a new one as there are great deals to be had out there atm -
i think that gta sa would benefit from a decent cpu. i play gta sa maxed out with 2xaa at 1440x900 and i only get around 40-60 fps. my old laptop with a t5250 @ 1.5GHz and 8600m gt with the same settings at 1200x800 got around the same fps.

Well the obvious way to answer it would be to find someone with an x3100 and a better CPU and see if they can run it better.

basically, u need a new laptop... i recommend asus G73... for $1600 its future proof as u can get... should max out most games... except for directx 11 ones... and crysis...

If i were to buy a new laptop it would have to have a trackpoint. There is no way on earth that I would buy one without it, and, seeing that they only come with business class laptops, a new one is out of the question due to lack of funds. £1000+ so i can run one game at a higher frame rate? no thanks. I will be upgrading my CPU in the near future, but I just wanted to know if it would affect performance of the game or not.
