    Hi ,

I know it's an old subject but need again some advice or reassurance.

Got a T7500 Dual 2 Core in my Vostro and do quit a bit of video editing. When gaming the CPU temp goes up to 84 C. But yesterday after experimenting the first time with the new Power Director 7 the temps for both CPU's went up to 88C. My brother thought the once it hits 90 i could be in trouble. Is this still "cool" or should i be concerned.(regardless of the fact that i actually can' t do anything about it anyway)
    Cheers
    Chris :)

That's pretty hot for an intel. What size is your laptop?

Wow that is quite hot Penryn scan go up to 70C without sustaining damage.

But I think you need to keep Meroms lower than 60-65C

You could try a program I8kfangui, I think the vostros are supported and try cranking your fan up much earlier than default, the cooling soultion on most laptops is actually pretty effective "if" you DONT let it heat up first, once its already to sear a steak, pushing the fans wont make it any cooler, they just keep it from melting basically. I run my fan at 50% all the time, and 100% when its 40c+, my temps have never broken 60c period.

Your computer will shut down if it gets above the "safe" threshold. If it can get to near 90C without a problem, then 90C is safe.

I don't know of any CPU's that can't handle these temps. Usually, the highest temperatures officially supported are in the 90-95C range. And as I said, if it gets above that, it just shuts down, so you don't need to worry about the computer taking damage.

ACPI was designed to thermally shutdown at 100c and downclock the cpu at 90c~

Operating at those temperatures, the cpu's lifespan might go down a little. I have a T7500 myself and it maxes out at 79c without any cooling aid

    3 cooling solutions:
    -undervolting
    -cooling pad
    -change thermal paste to AS5

After undervolting my max temps are 67c. If i add in the cooling pad and AS5 it maxes out at 62c.

well normally depends upon the cpu and motherboard....stuff....
I remember using one of the benchmarking softwares and it used to give an idea of the max temp of the cpu....try out Everest Pro or use CPUcool to cool down the temp a bit....rest i guess u cud probably buy one of those passive cooling pads or just apply Arctic Silver....Cud be a problem with the heatsink as well....maybe there are impurities on the heatsink itself....i upgraded my D630 to a X9000 and temps never go up above 60*C while gaming....

You might want to clean out the vents. If they are clean you can try undervolting your CPU, I got my T7500 to run at 1,050V instead of 1,250V which brought my max temperature down by about 13°C!

Thanks everybody for the fast replies.

Checked the CPU temps again with CPUcool and CPUID.
I think the reason i got so high CPU temps(88C) was because i rendered a movie with 3 motion pictures in one movie. When rendered a normal movie i got 83C, 84C.

As soon as the movie is finished rendering the temps go back to around (40C-51C).

Whats the difference between the ACPI temps and the core temps?
    Cheers again.
    Chris :)
PS: this forum has a very fast reply rate.(awesome!)

My CPU always goes up to the low 90s when playing strategy games or using the pcsx2 playstation emulator, so far I've not see the PC crash yet due to the abnormally high temperatures, oddly enough my stock clocked GPU has yet to hit the 60 degrees celsius threshold.

Try to undervolt the CPU with RMClock or other program. Your CPU and the rest of your system temps should run considerably cooler. I rarely exceed 65C in my Vostro.

Best sugestion around, hear hear, his and my T7500 both shaved off at least 15C from max load temp.
Your T7500 should drop down to 65ish also.

All back to normal. With the help of NHC (Notebook Hardware Control) i am able to switch between(Dynamic switching, Max Power, Max battery and optimized Battery) Simple and perfect program that woks for me. I think somehow i had the CPU on Max performance, don't know why and how though. Anyway it's all back to normal and my CPU temp are now between 48 and 52. Phuuuu. For a moment i though i have to save up for another Notebook again...

Thanks again for everybodys input. Highly appreciated!!!
    Cheers
