Im currently trying to play modern warfare 2 on my lappy (specs in sig) and its just unplayable. Tried every single tweaks/config out there. So no need to mention the drawwater thing. Tried playing at the lowest res and it still stutters/lag. I do notice that my cpu usage is up at 100%. My gpu is overclocked to 545/650. So will upgrading the cpu help? If so, please give me a list of cpus that i can upgrade to.
NOTE don't mention about buying another laptop since i just can't.

Your CPU is quite powerful, so I doubt it's really bottlenecking your system. It's definitely your laptop's weak GPU that is limiting gaming performance. A CPU upgrade may boost your framerates by a tiny, insignificant amount, but it won't be noticeable.
-
but doesnt cpu usage staying at 100 mean i need a cpu upgrade? I get same/similar frame rates at many res that ive tried doesn't htat also tell me that i need more cpu power?

Not necessarily. For example, maybe the game needs 120% of your current cpu power, and that makes you lose, let's say, 3 fps. That's why it's using 100%. But it also needs 300% of your gpu power, and that's your main bottleneck.

alright but since i really have no choice, cpu upgrade will help in source games right? Cause istill have those stutters and i know that the hd3450 is sufficient for source games. Is
Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 , T9300, T8300 compatible with my laptop? -
How are you playing BC2 and having difficulty with Source and MW2? Source is a pathetic ancient engine. MW2 is pretty much a straight up DX9 360 port. But read somewhere, DX9 console ports due tend to be more CPU intensive since the developers just give PC gamers the finger and don't put in the effort to make use of our more powerful GPUs efficiently.

Here's a video of Modern warfare 2 running on 8400m gs with t8300 2.4ghz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1Jfv4MGqN8
and so far i know that the mobility hd 3450 is a tiny bit better than the 8400m gs. So all he has is a better cpu in htat case and he's playing at the settings that i want to play at. 1280x800 (native res) and lowest settings. (I don't care what settings it is if its playable but i do want native res.
ANd here's another video that i don't get. All he has is hd 3470 which is TINY bit better(shouldn't mine overclocked make it even??) than mine with a worse cpu but his plays fine really smoothly with the texture on high!

is something wrong wif my comp? -
this is for when i have friends over we play on 3 comps MW2 its like split screen sorta thing except that we all get 1 computer each. And i really want MW2 to be playable on my lappy. Of course i can run it on max settings on my desktop

if you want to spend $300 to get 3 FPS more, upgrade your CPU. but check the free things first to see if you can get 5fps more.
have you checked all your power settings? temps? disabled non important processes? tried this - http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html all latest drivers?
how much ram do you have? tried a large (16gb) readyboost? what settings are you running MW2 at?
honestly, a 3450 was never a high end gaming card, and now that its over 2 years old im not suprised MW2 wont run. what 3dmark do you get? futuremark estimates around 1500 but with the overclock it might be higher.
you could try a DIYdock if you have express port. -
first video says all settings minimum but native res with overclock.
second video states settings;
Game settings:
- Resolution: 800x480
- Shadows: No
- Specular Map: No
- Depth of Field: No
- Soften Smoke Edges: No
- Ragdoll: Yes
- Bullet Impacts: Yes
- Texture Resolution: High
- Normal Map Resolutin: Low
- Specular Map Resolution: Low
that is really, really low. just cos he has texture res high doesnt mean anything when his overall res is 800x480.
why do you want native res instead of decent textures anyway? -
Alright ill try 3dmarks06 and see what happens. Last time, igot 2xxx something though.
-
you need to click the full screen button in options, or press alt shift. or it could be to do with scaling options in your graphics driver.
should always play full screen no matter what res. -
It's definitely a GPU limitation. I'm playing MW2 at 1366x768 with all low settings on my freaking netbook with a dual-core Atom (1.6GHz) and nVidia ION graphics, and it is quite playable (steady 40-50 frames per second).
I used to own the Studio 1535, and I can tell you that ATi 3450 is absolute crap. You can upgrade your CPU all you want, but the fact is that GPU is going to be the bottleneck no matter what. -

Im thinking of upgrading to intel core 2 extreme x7800 praying it will give me some performance boost -
OMG just tried out that gamebooster thing and IT ACTUALLY WORKED! Its fully playable at 640x480 i still get that stuttering during airstrikes and stuff though(Doesn't these stuff require moree cpu power? The cpu usage keep staying 100% is really bugging me. Its also almost playable at 1280x800 (native res)
And like you guys told me even if the cpu upgrade will only give me maybe 5 or 10 fps gain i think it would help a lot for me. Besides im staying under 100$ no matter what when buying the cpu.
NOTE: Can i just disable the services that game booster disabled permanently from services.msc so i don't even have to use gamebooster??? Or will it have side effects when doing non-gaming applications?
It closed these programs so far.
Application Experience
Computer Browser
Diagnostic Policy Service
Distributed Link Tracking Client
Function Discovery Provider Host
IPsec Policy Agent
Windows Image Acquisition
And i can find all these in services.msc So can i disable them permanently and not use gameboosters? But what will be the side effects? -
CPU usage at 100% will upgrading help in games such as modern warfare 2
