i was watching g4 the other just out of sheer boredom and they had the special with crysis as their main review, they showed a bunch of glitches where the flying creatures just froze in place and a take flipped out moving around shooting at you then blown up and the ai when he shot the guy turned over to your side of the wall and thought u were on the opposite side where you were behind him and had no idea you were there. at the end of their review they gave it a 2 out of 5 and i was wondering what you guys thought of the game cause im debating to buy it or not.

Like all new games and software that have just been released, bugs and glitches are often found within. EA has already announced a patch for Crysis that will fix some performance issues. Link below
    http://www.ea.com/crysis/news.jsp

We will most certainly see more patches and updates for Crysis, so in the meantime, hang in there!

I think that's a pretty lame review. I played the MP and the Beta, and I thoroughly enjoyed those incomplete versions of the game.

I've seen a few glitches here and there but nothing extreme like the review you mentioned.

Great game, well worth the price tag imo. If you're not into shooters, don't expect anything new or revolutionary but any fan of FPSes will get their fix in Crysis.

I can give you a couple reasons not to buy Crysis:

    1. EA published it.

    2. It's Far Cry with a new coat of paint. I thought Rainbow Six: Vegas was a better evolution of the gameplay in Far Cry than Crysis was.

    3. It's obscenely racist and shamelessly panders to Americans.

    4. In order to hit 30fps at 1920x1200 in DX10, you need to be running three GeForce 8800 Ultras in SLI. That's about $1,800 in video hardware alone.

If the OP really wants to see what all the fuss is about regarding the graphics technology in the game then download the demo and make a judgement. Many users on this forum aren't enamoured with the gameplay elements, as for me it still boils down to your standard fps with lots of graphical bells, whistles and a small number of gameplay features to help disguise its base fps nature.

No way... look at other reviews and awards...

The game hasnt even been out for more than 2 months... its supposed to last like 4-7 years I believe

Its not reached its full potential yet.

I recommend you get it... I see no reason why negative reviews push your opinion down... that would be the 3rd negative review I have heard of...

Great game. Lots of fun, but can be hard at times. Can't just run and gun usually, takes a little strategy and planning before you try to meet your objective. AI is almost TOO keen to your presence though, which is my biggest gripe. I can be crouched and behind foliage, 200 yards away and I'm spotted.

Performance-wise it is very scalable. Runs fine on 8600m GT 1280x800 medium graphics.

I think it is a game worth paying full price for IMHO. Good environment and overall fun game to play.

The game is alright. It was hyped up too much to live up to its expectations.

I played it for a few hours on an 8800GTS and it looked pretty good but I won't be buying it.

Don't hesitate buying Crysis (especially if you can pick it up for $40 this week)... of everyone I talk to, it is worthwhile. I went back and forth between that and COD4, but bought COD4. If you are into multiplayer, I have to say that I'm not liking COD4 multiplayer, and hopefully Crysis is better. COD4 maps are way too small, it turns out to be total mayhem with no element of strategy (I say this as a hardened BF2 veteran).

Crysis is pretty nice at 1680x1050 on my 8800 GTS, but COD4 plays much better on my laptop at native res (also 1680x1050 - 8600M GT). COD4 isn't quite as nice as Crysis (indeed the best visual game yet), but it looks pretty damn good. I'm thinking Crysis, COD4, Fear, and Bioshock are the 4 best games in the past 2 years.

I have only played the Multplayer beta and it rocked. Played the same map and the same scenario over and over and over. I can only imagine how much fun having a variety and maps and scenarios would be.

...the maps are pretty huge, I think the vehicle interaction is pretty sweet as well.

I just started playing it yesterday, when I got my 8600m GT laptop -- running on Medium Settings, it still looks amazing. And the gameplay is fun - it's kind of easy since you automatically get your health back, but still, shuffling through the body suit functions to take out your enemies (especially Cloak) is hilarious. I definitely recommend it.

well considering the price dropped and it wasn't even out for that long... there's obviously something wrong with the game...
then... when you go check out the number of servers Crysis has and compare it to the number of servers CoD4 has.. you'll see that CoD4 has maybe 10x more?

lastly, remember that this thing is by EA games... that automatically means that it'll be harsh on your computer even when the graphics aren't that much better than games which dont require nearly as much memory and the such.

I know the guy already bought it but just putting it out there for others who may be considering buying the game.

no that does not 'automatically' mean it'll be harsh on your computer. EA publishes games. Crytek develops games using their own engine. The same team who made Far Cry made Crysis. again, EA is the publisher for Crysis and not the developer. get it?

Agreed on that...it is a system hog. I'm amazed at how quickly and smoothly COD4 loads in comparison. I just timed it, and it took 6 seconds to load from the shortcut. After double-clicking a server in the multiplayer list, it took 11 seconds before I was in and ready to go. Specs below. On another note, I just got done playing some more COD4 multiplayer, and it "feels" a lot better with less people in a map. 30 players is way too many for these maps....narrow that down to a dozen and it's much more enjoyable. Now I wish I could play some Crysis MP.

I am amazed at how quickly and smoothly the original Doom loads in comparison. I just timed it, and it took less than 1 second to load from the shortcut. CoD4 is such a system hog.

I stand corrected.... and yet.... it still does use up a massive amount of your system's resources...

even if it's not from EA games, it still runs like it was

That was a pathetic attempt at sarcasm.... hahaha? The obvious point is the comparison of two modern FPS titles released at nearly the same time and pointing out one key difference. Sure, they are different games, but both are big FPS-genre picks, and yes, Crysis has nice visuals, but although not a DX10 rival, COD4 is no slouch either. I'll give Crysis the nod on visuals... but its slightly better eye candy comes at a big performance hit in comparison.Tell me how long you can stare at foliage before getting bored...(?)

On the other hand, BF2 (another EA title) is another complete DOG when it comes to resources and load times. I'm afraid 'll soon need to replace my the two drives in my RAID0 array due to excessive reads while I sit there waiting for BF2 to load (read: sarcasm). Damn good game, but I swear EA only releases unoptimized debug builds without optimizations.

I've yet to weigh in with my personal opinion on Crysis (have only played the SP demo), but from what I've heard its quite good, nice to look at, and certainly worth picking up. I tend to play just one or two current titles at a time, and I'll eventually pick up Crysis, but for now am happy with most aspects of COD4...it will keep me entertained for a while, with less time spent watching load screens.

BTW, I played Wolfenstein on a screamin new 486 DX-33 back in the day. Of course I was also a fan of Doom and all its derivatives. All of these, and pretty much all successive FPSs, were slow loading in comparison to COD4. They got the gameplay, the storyline, the performance, and the overall experience spot-on.

I totally agree with the first part of your post. That has Doom 3 written all over it. "Zomg! Doom 3 looks soooo pretty! But the gameplay and story just suck! Oh it has multiplayer?" Hence why that pile went to near give away prices in like 3 months.

I won't buy it just because its "pretty". I made that mistake with Doom 3 and HL 2 (k...cs source is good but still). I am going to have to wait for someone else I personally know to let me try it out or at least play the demo to see if its something I like.

It sounds pretty good from what most people say but the general impression I get from it (just like Doom 3) "Ehh it looks really sweet but I got bored in an hour...Multi player was so so". That doesn't sound like something I want to waste cash on but time will tell.

CoD 4 and Crysis are two completely different animals. Crysis renders vast environments with detail and destructible environments. CoD 4 has small areas to render at a time with limited destructability. CoD 4 loads and runs well probably because it was designed as a console game and loads small environments in comparison with games like Crysis.

Just because the price has dropped doesn't mean there's something "wrong" with the game. Most PC games go on sale or drop in price within weeks after being released. $40 is the sale price now anyhow. Last reports I saw it sold near 100,000 units in the USA.

Just because console games stick at $60 each for months on end doesn't mean they don't suck.
