After a day of testing out just about every cvar in the custom configs from taowolf to cubans... I made one that is pretty close but gets better framerates..

    fool proof ver

All of the above configs perform better than all medium settings..on all medium i avg 22 max
Also it looks amazing...dont wait try it out

If you want decals better draw distance ect...simply goto the system setting during gameplay and change the settings the ARE NOT set to CUSTOM..

to install got the directory in C:/program files/electronic arts/crytek/crysis/game/config folder
copy the config you want to check out paste it in that folder.. and RENAME IT system...

close and start up crysis...i recommend using high textures if you have more than 256mb of video ram..and medium on the other settings....BUT DONT CHANGE SHADERS OR SHADOWS IN THE GAME..LEAVE CUSTOM SETTING...CUSTOM

ps.. enjoy.. post your framerates and in game settings if you have time...

BTW DONT USE THESE below ON A 2600 or a 8600m gt they are simply too demanding use the ones above.

added..new drawdistance and shadows to this one

I thought id do a seperate post to let u guys know...shaders and shadows seem to be the only thing to kill crysis performance, and the only option is to lower there settings without visual loss...

I basically pasted the only settings that matter, if u want color grading enable it in this config..if u dont want hdr..but prefer coronas instead do so...but its here just so u can see what u can change and what u cant change...obviously i left out r_ssao for a reason..u cant notice a diff and its costs alot of fps..

the only things u can notice with shadows and shading

    blurred grass
sharp defined shadows vs non existant
detail on rocks..barrels..palm trees..fence wood detail
    hdr
    sun shafts
    god rays
color grading does look slightly better imo but with hdr on it takes away 2-5 fps you would need too squint to notice the differance however.
edge aa= makes the grass and palm trees look smoother..but i prefer the extra fps and the sharp look
and this is very noticable at no cost in fps e_detail_materials_view_dist_xy = 4096

makes the mountains in the distance very detailed vs washed out and blurry

and one last thing I like motion blur when im playing at 30fps...but i turned it off because at 20-25fps it takes away 2-4fps and thats just not worth it imho.

If anyone has a suggestion..basically tell me a command that adds quality at no loss in fps...plz post

Try lowering decal timing and particle resolutions which will boost your fps during a fight. You probably wont notice this very much since you'll be paying attention to the action.

thanks for that tip brother. but all setting are default low ...

I just tested one out...i overclocked to 620/675 and man o man it looked crazy good...i thought i was playing on very high...i set colorgrading to 1 and put everyeffect i had shown except motion blur....it looks flippin sweet whats even sweeter is the fact i was getting lows of 22 fps and avg of 25-27fps...it plays alot faster than 25fps would make u think....

i just cant decribe how happy i am with this config..this game is wicked(graphics)..i never thought id ever get to play it looking very high on this laptop with framerates that avg 25..and i didnt notice any lag at all..... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND OTHERS TO TRY THE 25FPS CONFIG I POSTED AND TURN ON THE COLOR GRADING....IT LOOKS VERY VERY VERY GOOD...WAYYYYYY BETTER THAN CUBANS...

you'll need to start a photobucket account, upload save images from your pc, and use the picture http links photobucket provides when insert images on this site.

you can also attache pictures when you post a replay. Its way towards the bottom.

    mine vs cubans

ok for starters at 1290x800 no matter what i overclock to i cant play his high or very high settings even close to playable framerates..

his look great at low or very low but i hate a couple things
first it plays at like 18-22fps...too slow...mines at 22-27fps
his has no detail on the obeject shaders..rocks metal glass vegitation..all look bland textures..mine it all looks bumpmapped high details in everything... his has sun shafts...so does mine...his has god rays...good for swimming only...i gots colorgrading it makes the image quality look incred..plus water looks flippen unreal...his has a weird way of showing drawdistance..things even close pop up from outta nowhere...mines the standard distance plus u can change it to medium in the reg settings if ur happy with slightly less fps...his has detail in the mountains for far away ...so does mine....but for some reason mine looks alot better...his shadows are blurred jaggy and dont look good at all..not even like medium shadows...on mine for little or no loss in fps i change shadow texture size to 512 and they look like high quality shadows...

the only thing i want help with and the last tweak i am looking for to make this perfect for our gpus(2600hd and the 8600m gt) it the grass..its very well washed out i want to make it look blurry...but i have a feeling thats just with the wind turned on....in 98 percent of the game the grass looks great its just when the sun is at its peek ...noon that it look a little washed out...im just nit picking..otherwise im very very very happy with this config......ive spent like 20 days looking at all the cvars testing each and everyone out...taking out the main performance killers by starting everything low...then slowly adding very high settings one by one...when its all said and done...it looks better than high and plays 15 fps faster...

If everything turns out as nicely as youve suggested, i think you should definately circulate your ini version on the net. Its gonna help alot of unhappy crysis players!

ok man heres the first pic.....this is my config...i added coronas and bumpmaps... shadows up a touch cost 4 fps..ill prob take it back off i didnt see any quality diff anyways...only thing is hdr i dont like so much...or turned down too like .43

    my config screen 1

    very high screen 1

    http://i530.photobucket.com/albums/dd344/ryane0840/2v.jpg

this takes a bit of time...btw i can bump up my quality a touch or two more without losing more than 1 fps...so dont be too critical...my fps was slightly lower because i added 2 stupid things i shouldnt have coronas(waste of fps with hdr on) and i bumped up shadows too much..looks the same as before but took away 1 fps

i just checked my pics out..they are pretty stinking close...if i put coronas off and added very high textures then they would look much closer..but i also have pics of close ups ready as well...check out my next pic of the detail i left in the veg.....

people give me suggestions...should the hdr be turned down...what did u notice...nvm the obvious texture diff on the sand i can easily change that at no cost in fps..its just the main things im looking at...lighting shadows and detail...oo and of course the fps..i dont wanna play at 20fps or less..
and i also have a config that gets 10 more fps that the one u seen.. but its more like high settings..better than medium...slightly less than high..but i get like 30-40 fps

I would say that it looks a heck of a lot better than it does on all medium settings, which I am running it at right now on my laptop. And you are saying this gets better performance than all medium or about the same?

How much fps lose will you incur if you put more trees in the background? Any i noticed that the sun effects on your setup actually looks better than on very high settings. Its more atmospheric, but if theres a way to slightly tone it down i suggest you do it since it over powers the shadowy mountains, providing too much of a contrast. What fps are you getting during fire fights btw.

I'll try yours out. His looks like it was done smart like object pop was an issue only on very high does it not happen. So instead of forcing vhigh the stuff that was poping up is just removed (like the sticks on the beach) but it makes things look very plain.

I like how he has his all packaged tho, its an installer and it lets you choose various levels and also has the time of day modifier that I am really enjoying. Then you can simply uninstall to get back to normal.

yea i like cubans also...but i dont like a few things...1 its not for hd2600 or 8600m gt cards in mind...his looks good...but not great...and the way things pop up like 4 feet away takes away from the experience..also what makes crysis amazing is the detail for the shaders...and his config only has high details on the very high config...which i get about 6 fps with..im making a config with our cards in mind...our cards can handle the details no problem..so i left them very high..our cards cants handle smoke effects fire effects and wind effects verywell ...we need to accept the fact some things simply have to be taken out...and i decided to take out all effects and leave the deatail and atmosphere in this config...

wiley thanks man...yea i am thinking the same thing about the contrast it need to be lowered big time...and thankfully takening out that sun effect will add fps...I will need to fiddle with the tree distance too see what our cards can handle..im pretty sure they can render more detail...heck im just gonna tweak my config right now and let u know what i get for fps when i bump the other settings to vanilla very high..high..then med..

med and high have similar draw distances so i might just use medium drawdistance at first because this will impact performance quite a bit im sure...anyways no sense in talking about it im going try your suggestion and post back after a smoke...5-10
min...keep sending ideas...i think opinions of others help define and decide what i leave and keep in my config for us

Ttime20...thanks man thats a very good point...it runs like medium and compares to very high...trumps high even...

basically i know i can tweak it to look the same and get an extra 5 fps...so to answer that ...yea id get performance of setting everything medium..plus about 7 fps during battles..its very playable..but i want it to avg 25 and look better than high...so i might need to play around for a couple more days..or maybe even try for it tonight

visous...i tried v 2.1 or whatever it is...but i cant play it on very low and there is no detail on veg..no detail on metal ect..look bland and he claims it looks very high but if u compare which i have ....its not even close

and after testing all his variables...man the only thing that impacts performance is the extra effects....details with a mid range card should be maxed out period..hdr has little or no effect with my card when its overclcked..and adding good looking shadows vs crappy ones is like .3 fps...the only thing that hits this card is polygons..if the draw distance is set to max nothing with run well...if its set to a distance where u can see whats in front of u..and not 30 km away..then u will see frames closer to 20 vs 10....

i think we should vote on some stuff...like what matters the most to u when u look at the game
im pretty sure the hd 2600 and the gt can handle max details even pom...but im looking for a way to balance the game out so that its not 50 fps looking at a tree..then 4 fps when looking at the road ahead of u

this is nice, but it would be even nicer to see u experiment with other games other then crysis, although when i play crysis at least i know that i can get close to 30 fps average.

    edit_________

also may i suggest xfire for screenshots.....you can take a lot more screenshots with ease using xfire imo...

Im uninstalling triple C now to try yours out. I just checked the "goodies" folder that it installes and it had 2 really awsome things in it

One was a spreadsheet showing every single value that is associated with low, med, high, very high so you know what changes with each setting (great for custom cvars)

Another is a program called cryconf and its a program that gives information on all the individual varibles and what they do and lets you change them from 6 presets ultra low, low, med, high, very high, ultra high or a custom setting so this would be a invalubale tool to somebody like me to create my own custom config tailored to my system or liking.

system one...but its not the one i showed lol
im experimenting still..im thinking sun shafts gotta go..my fps jumped up to 32 fps with sun shafts turned off well and color grading...i honestly think on my computer i have the best possible config..only things i touched believe it or not was shading and shadows...i noticed within my first ten min of owning crysis that shaders and shadows make the game...but kill the performance...no sence in tweaking the entire game...just the shaders and the shadows...everything else is a waste imho..with my config u have the option of turing up all the other settings depending on if your over clocked ...

btw try this one i get 32 fps avg easily..and on the benchmark i get 35 fps avg.. it still looks ok...better than medium ..only thing u will miss is god rays

put that in your system if u want 30 fps avg.. without sunshafts and without color grading...

o add also...when u start up the game u could prob set textures to high and anything that isnt custom to medium...btw i installed cubans again..overclocked my gpu and i still get like 20fps it sucks..and i did compare his to mine...i dont know why his takes so much performance hit when his get to the level my first ones at..with his very high i got like 10 fps or less...with my very high i still got 24fps

I just tested the one you posted on the first page the 25fps setup and got 39fps average, All medium i get like 42fps average so its just slightly slower but I cant really see the difference while running the bencmark.

My card is a 9700gt its one level up from the 8600gt but still not good enough for all high (all high is 20fps average)

I think I will play with that tweak program and start to set things that I like, further object view distance, 2x edgeaa, stuff like that and run it from there.

yea i only posted part of the config because the other stuff doesnt make a diff...if it adds 2 fps it kills the look..so i think i have the best junk from cubans on hand only diff is i mixed his good shadow settings with my shader quality choice.. making the game look great and run better isnt very hard to do at all..

thats weird...u got less frame rate than on medium...
    on medium i get 20fps]
with the config i just posted that looks way better plus hdr...i get 30-40fps and ive tested the settings hundreds of times...

o yea..this config is for the hd2600 and 8600mgt...sorta like pushing the cards individual limits...im sure the reason yours dropped is because of the fact it can render more polygons persecond than the card im using..because with a medium draw distance on these cards the framerate crashes...but all that stuff i added too my config doesnt have much effect on the perforamnce for this card..but yea im pretty sure your card is just able to draw more polygons and thats the only reason...because ive added alot of extra detail and on my card it performs without noticable hits on performance...whearas with yours its pretty obvious..

I used to own i laptop with that nvidia 7100m integrated card, it played games very well but when it came to polygons it had pretty low limits..it would crash on 3dmark01 high poly test..but fly through games like ccs.(low poly)

lol whoops...re read what u posted...yea the benchmark wont do it justice...i did benchmarks to get a rough estimate on performance hit with hdr colorgrading ect...when it comes to detail...thats something u will have to play the game and observe...i still think its good that u got 39fps im kinda jealous..i can make u a kick butt config in like 10 min if u tell me what fps ur hoping to get...and what fps u get on high

i posted photos comparing very high to mine(medium performance)
    cubans high performs like high
cubans very high performs like very high
cubans low..looks low but has some high effects that make it slightly slower than medium

i cant have everything that veryhigh has and perform medium...but i came pretty close...
considering i get 20 fps med and i get 25 on this...i could technically add edge aa..better textures..add um lol i added everything...i dont know maybe add something like motion blur...
    but yea

tomrow...im going to just make it full and post a download for the full config...i dnt need to say much because i added just about everything good graphically from the game but with a low draw distance...

It's a Nice tweak. Great job. But when I shoot an object lets say a metal can, I don't see holes in it. How do you turn this on.

Also when I use this tweak I see cars floating in the air and see yellow bloks around the car. :( otherwise it's a great tweak. IF someone has an answer please note.. :)

frog man ill make u a config man give me 20 min...

snalceeyes funny u have those glitches , maybe its your drivers or something.. It cant be the config thats doing that because i left everything but shaders and shadows sys spec..

and if u want decals too show goto your game settings graphics...and turn up the ones set to low to med or high...it has a minimal impact on the game...or i could just add it too the config and keep everything low havent decided yet...it looks like most things can be turned to the max including textures shadows ect without a loss of fps...it just costs ram...but for example my card shares 1.2 gb of system ram..i got plenty of extra ram to use on the ultra high textures ect...

I also did about 40 benchmarks this morning i wanted to see why my config is running as well as it does. I over clocked and then used stock clocks..it looks like i was right about my assumptions with that dudes graphics card and his lower framerate..but then again im making this for the hd2600/8600m gt cards in mind nothing else..

here are my results you can see the drops in fps as i take out settings 1 by 1

    621/675 is the oc

    low 44 stock
    low 54 overclcoked
    med 20.5 stock
    med 22.64 overclocked

    mine maxq 15.75 stock
mine maxq 19.05 overclocked( notice the bigger gain in fps vs med an this ones crazy high)

    all below are stock speeds
    mine (shadow 256 vs 512 tlod at 1 vs 2.5) 15.81
    mine (color grading off) 17.10
    mine (edge aa off) 17.86
    mine (coronas off) 17.85
    mine (flares off) 17.85
    mine (motionblur 0 vs 1) 22.98
    mine (sunshafts=0) 25.87
mine (q renderer is taken away) 27.63
mine ( postprocess shader taken away) 27.70
    mine ( skytype 0) 27.78
mine (q_shaders all set too 3)26.86
mine (q_sharder all set too 0) 30.02 took away shadows

ok this is the main part of the config...i dont know about hdr but it doesnt impact performance like i thought..i put on god rays and color grading....if u want more fps change the colorgrading to 0, and change godrays=0, and if u want even more fps for sunshafts=0 u should see a big diff...i need other peoples opinions

    these are the options
color grading vs sunshafts (you should disable 1 or the other, keeping both will give u about 20fps)

with this one u can turn on motion blur and turn everything that isnt custom in the game settings menu to high and get great fps

The only problem I see, is all of your screen shots are taken either looking at a rendered object, or with idle play. Take some screen shots of action with your framerate, that way we can see how good this mod holds up.

TO KGANN with respect... Ive said this many times THIS CONFIG IS LOW...during firefights there is no diff...because the effects are set too low...if u want more effects at a cost of fps during firefights simply goto settings and turn too medium or high..but i left those options up to the individual...im not going to make a config like cubans that forces the player to have static settings...everyone has a diff pref.

THIS CONFIG DOESNT SLOW DOWN IT WILL AVERAGE WHAT THE SCREENSHOT TAKEN DISPLAY INFO FPS SHOWS...

the only thing i couldnt jack up was shadows size to 1024...past 512 it slows down the framerate in the jungle levels...

everything detail wise is max..well close...i can edit this config in many ways...but i think getting over 20fps avg with everything on including colorgrading speaks for its self..very high look..but with a medium settings framerate
