The problem i am having is that you cant scroll through weapon\binocular zoom without a mouse wheel. Checked all the config files and googled the hell out of it and nothing  So anyone have any ideas before i go out and buy a mouse

    Thanks in advance

Wait, so you're playing Crysis on your trackpad? With an 8400M GT?

Pro tip: Get a mouse. A basic wired mouse with a scroll wheel can be found for as little as $17 at Best Buy.

Thanks for the pro tip mr kubelwagen :)

But a mouse detracts from the portability of a laptop, and its only a small issue anyway.. Do people use a mouse wheel much in games??

So.. What your saying is not only does crytek hate touchpads.. Gamers do too :O I doubt a mouse could be more accurate, really.

Well, if you HAVE to play the game with the touchpad, you CAN change the default zoom in/out key ingame, just go to settings, customize controls, and set the touchpad slider as the default.

Ps. If you don't mind the hassel, I think the pgup and pgdown keys also serve the same function...never tested though cause I use a mouse to play fps...hehe....

The Logitech VZ Micro Bluetooth Laser mouse really isn't bad at all. Small, precise, works on almost all surfaces and is great for travel...so you might want to consider that if you game....

Ah,a mouse is considered portable. Put it the laptop case or bag, next to the adapter. It`s a must.

Well i tryed it once more.. Customizing the controls doesnt work, i even tryed changing the default initial zoom button from mouse 2 to page up and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though.. i think i'll go buy a mouse now.

FPS' should include in their minimum system requirements:

    - 1 PS/2, USB, Bluetooth Mouse or pointer device.

Wait, so you changed the initial zoom bottom from mouse to pgup and it did not work? Okey, that's no longer a problem with the touchpad but with the game itself. Test to see if your pgup key is working, if so, then the initial zoom should work once you set it to that key. Does this only happen in Crysis? Can you use your touchpad scroll on other fps like Battlefield 2? If so, then you might have to do some ini editing to make Crysis recognize the touchpad scroll...

Lol I think that's sort of implied...

Most of us game on desktops, so those stuff come in standard...

Most lappys cannot game, and even for those that can game, "Mobile version of these chipsets may be able to run the game but are not supported"....yeah...so the game developers simply overlooks the possibility of playing on a lappy....which I find quite strange since I game a lot more on my lappy than on my desktop (which is a LOT more capable)...

    =======================================
or.............Maybe the game developers are testing out the so-called "Survival of the Fittest"...where the less equipped gamers simply get pwned online...which forces them to "evolve" into the higher end species, and when new gears come out they will again be pwned and forced to get even better gears....oh Darwin..........

Ok i tried it again and it worked but there is no option to change the "toggle weapon zoom" button, which would be mouse 3 i presume. And im not sure what you mean by touchpad scroll? But there are not control cfg\ini files in the root directory, checked several times. Anyone know of any command lines i could try? As unlikely as it is :)

you should absolutely have a mouse to pay PC games. it is going to be a lot more accurate, and it will give you a much better experience.

I recommend a logitech vx nano if you are worried about portability.

Also, you aren't playing on the battery, are you? I assume you are sitting down at a table at least for gaming? A mouse really shouldn't detract from your portability. Just put it with the charger.

I use a rollerball, and I used the Fujitsu's fingerprint reader as a zoom/scroll function, and it works great, but still prefer fast key. Prefered using my old Kensington scroll ring too but don't take that with me when I travel.

However you can edit it by changing the config in: mydocuments/games/crysis/profiles

I did it because I really just need zoom in (change weapon or unholster to zoom out really) and it's faster than scroll wheel.
I can't remember the right place but I think if you google it you can find the info. Hope that helps if you don't want to bother with a mouse. I know I would never want to go with a mouse I prefer my BIG BALLZ. :D

Mouse 3 is normally mapped to the two-finger tap if that helps, but you can scroll with it tho...

NP, yeah, wish I remembered the setting I changed, but I did it before Xmas and once it was done, never needed to go back into it (actually don't play it or anything right now, just watch NHL playoffs and ski until May 20th  ). I do remember it was like "scroll up" or "wheel up" or something like that.

Ok so thanks to everyone, esp. the ape, i figured it out :D
And heres a little mini-guide for the "googlers"XD

To change the zoom in and out key mappings in crysis:
Browse to documents > games > crysis > profiles > default
In this folder you will see three xml documents
open the first one called "actionmaps" in note pad or wordpad
Use the find function (Ctrl+f) to search for "zoom"
click find next 3 times to find the "zoom_in" key and again to find "zoom_out"
The deault will look something like:

    action name="zoom_in" onPress="1"
    key name="mwheel_up"/

Just delete mwheel_up and add whatever button you want to zoom in with, and do the same for zoom out. I used 6 to zoom in and 7 to zoom out to test it as they are not used in the game.

I can't imagine playing an FPS with a touchpad. I've tried it and I can honestly say it at least twice as difficult as using a controller.

Anyone who can effectively game in an FPS using a touchpad is either a legend or a robot.

It is very hard to aim quickly and accurately with a standard laptop touchpad.

I recommend the VXNano masterchef pointed out. It is the best usb wireless/travel size mouse ever. If you like bluetooth then the logitec v470.

For wired (the best), I'd go with either a RAZER Lachiesis (however that is spelled) or a Razer DeathAdder.

Problem is, if you start using a great gaming mouse, there is no way you will be able to game again using a touchpad...you'll feel as if you are being deprived of oxygen.
