So I'm having a fun little problem that's actually quite irritating... When I go to connect to a server (playing CS:S) many times it won't do anything. I figure this is fairly typical, though I don't know why. All my ports are open, and even with the firewall completely off the problem isn't helped. Aaaanyway when it does connect, i'll get to "sending client info," and i'll think that i'm headed to the game. Nope. Instead, the background turns black and i get a "HL2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". You're sorry for my inconvenience my you-know-what. What's odd about this crashing problem is its horribly inconsistent. Sometimes it will happen 6 times in a row, then on the 7th i'll connect just fine. In fact some days it will never crash at all. And starting a new level on a server never makes it crash. I've tried it under a variety of firewall states, ending other internet-using apps, etc. but i don't really know where to start--i don't know if its software or network-related. your help is much appreciated!

Yeah that happens to me too. I get it also when I try connecting to certain servers. This issue has apparently been happening for a couple of years. If you go to the Steam forums you can look it up. Don't know much to say but good luck.

Can you run the CS:S Stress Test without problems?

Yes, and i get 21.94 fps with aa off and simple reflection, and also vsync disabled but everything else maxed out... I really doubt that its a gfx related problem, im thinking more network or software...
