I'm curious on what people think is the best shooter, they are both worth the money for the game but it seems like CS has the popularity just because its... CS.
I personally think DoD is the best shooter, the action keeps rolling rather then being forced to watch your living teammates shoot it out for the rest of the round. Another real gripe about CS:S is the annoying random "melon" headshots, makes me wonder if Valve used a watermelon as a model rather then a realistic head.
I'm sure the "melon" head turned off a lot of people from CS:S but I think thats what makes DoD even better, you can use the better graphics, physics and all the good stuff without much changed gameplay.

CS:S is the best
-
I'd go for DOD/DOD:S
Never could understand why CS was so popular....when games like Global Ops and Team Factor were the exact same thing and flopped. -
DoD 1.3b/3.1b were the best!
hey I am an ex cal-i dod 3.1
too bad they jumped to v1.0 -
I play 1.0 at the moment....I have the retail version. I play it instead of DOD:S... -
-
well they are quite different because CS is like a modern day counter-terrorist operation game, and DoD is WWII game, so its hard to compare the two. but i like CS better
-
I prefer CS:S. I've played DoD and the overall "feeling" of the game is totally different from CS. The recoil and gameplay style is just so different. I honestly didn't like it.
-
Source games kick ass.
I grew tired of CSS a while ago, but then got back into it again. I love CSS deathmatch, it's like Unreal Tournament and CS combined.
The melon headshot phenomenon is pretty funny, it's seems like half the kills in the game are headshots. -
DoD definitely has different gameplay mechanics. it has more of a call of duty feel to it (not just because its WWII) but by the way the characters move and aiming. CS:S has just always had a spot in my heart. but i can see how DOD is fun. i played a 16 vs 16 server one time and it was kick ars. non stop action. but then css has the whole spot light thing to it. if ur one of the last 2 standing, everyone has to watch u pwn. or get pwnt

CS 1.6 all the way. It has a much better Clan/Scrim community than all the others which is what i like out of a FPS. Like Cthulhu said Deathmatch/GunGame can get REALLY fun on CSS though.

Don't forget zombie mod.
It's incredibly fun and gets really intense and scary.

zombie is only fun on SOME maps and it's only intense and scary at first...after that it's eh...
the only map I find zombie fun is zm_lila_panic, I hate all those other variations of it.
I also find that boatescape one fun too but noone ever has that map. -
I've personally gotten sick of panic. Recently, I've discovered escape maps and fell in love with it. =] Now, theres actually an objective to game other than killing all the zombies or tagging all the humans.
I've seen a few servers with boatscape that are decently filled (usually 15+ players). -

I love Iceworld servers. Deathmatchs are also pretty cool.

CS:S all the way...
1.6 annoys the heck out of me, with crappy graphics, really annoying buying system, and half the other stuff that Source has, but 1.6 doesnt. -
DOD:S for me.
I just love the gameplay mechanic alot more. No faffing around buying weapons, no waiting for rounds to end before being able to play again.
Also some of the levels really do have that futility of war thing going on. With people desperately trying to win the middle ground and soldiers dying left right and centre.
I've had some great uber matches on it. There is one map where the middle flag is a tank and you get SO much battle in what is affectionately known as 'the garden'. The game was really pushing on for time with the Germans all holed up on their 2 flags with us as the US unable to break past their defences. Then I did a death run down the left alleyway, managed to find somewhere in the dark and HIDE for a bit. Watched lots of Germans respawn and push forward to their front line, leaving their two flags exposed. Went and got them both. Proper chufty points for when that happens!
God, been ages since I've booted that up... -
are you kidding CS 1.6 for sure, source sucks
-
Lol source has take over 1.6 it rules
-
CS doesn't have enough realism for me.

I play CS:S and DoD:S.
Great games.
I hate the original CS and DoD and CS:CZ is just a slightly revamped CS. -
I prefer DoD:S. One reason why is simply that it seems to attract fewer llamas. Mostly though, I just prefer the style of play... Find yourself a server full of people you like though, and either game is fun.
Multiplayer mods like Insurgency, NeoTokyo, and Firearms:Source, and single player mods like Black Mesa:Source are the ones that really interest me though. -

Hey I have a question about DOD:S. Ok, the last time I played this game was about one year ago (I've played many times before when it was in the Beta stage) and I loved it. Though my question is: are there many hackers in DOD:S? I remember someone was speedhacking last time I played and I thought that was kinda weird. I just don't see anyone hacking in DOD.

Not really, I do not think I have ever seen a hacker in DOD:S but there are a couple of things that need to be fixed in DOD:S.
1. The machine guns are overpowered laser beams of death.
2. The sub machine guns need some revamping.
CS:S/CS 1.6 vs. DoD/DoD:S
