I try to connect to the 1st server in my sig. A place I've played for months.

Now I can't connect there (but other servers I can) because I get this error message after choosing my team and weapons:

    "Error verifying SteamID ticket"

I get that error all the time if I run my XP Steam account under Vista. So I only use Steam under XP.

If you are already under XP, try clearing Steam's cache and deleting downloaded content from servers. Forgot how to do it, but it should be pretty easy to find out on Valve's site.

I remember getting that error when Steam was having server issues. It's most likely something on their end.

Log out of Steam and back in for starters.

I found something that works: delete the following from your steam folder:

    Steam.dll
    SteamUI.dll
    ClientRegistry.blog

deleting those files fixes this issue in case logging into Steam/restarting doesn't work.

I was just getting this error a couple days ago.
    -open steam
    -file > change user...
    -this will log you out,
    -re-enter password/log in again

    Worked for me

I had that problem yesterday. I only deleted the clientregistry.blog file and it fixed it.

clientregistry deletion fixes everything! Bow down before the magical file!

I guess I shouldn't be too sarcastic...Steam is much easier to deal with than hunting down a bajillion updates to get CS in working order during the WON days but still, Valve huffs mine at some things.

I was experiencing this incessantly the other day, but the issue seems to have resolved itself. Almost definitely to do with Valve, so yes, its the providers fault.
