Ok so I just bought CoD 5 and I've installed it in Windows 7 and I've gone to play it and the game goes to the black screen, and then ctd's.
In the console window all I can see is this -
I have updated both my video card drivers and sound driver but that hasn't solved the issueCode:Error: Could not load material "water_droplet". Error: Could not load material "water_dynamic_spray". ------- sound system initialization ------- Waiting for $init to finish. There may be assets missing from code_post_gfx. Error during initialization: Unhandled exception caught
I manually ran the DXSetup.exe from the disc to make sure as well.
Thing is I've Tried Call of Duty Black OPS , Medal of Honor Modern Warfare 2 And Crysis And They All Worked Well
Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this? Please don't suggest setting the sound to 24bit 48000mhz in the sound options (which seems to be a common solution given in the articles I've found via google), that's for Vista.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.![]()

It's kinda obvious from the error message:
Error: Could not load material "water_droplet".
Error: Could not load material "water_dynamic_spray".
They are most likely textures files, vfx files or some other files that are either missing or corrupt when the game tries to load.
Here's what you do:
- uninstall the game
- delete the leftover game files/folders/registries
- reboot the computer
- start installing the game again
- meanwhile, go ahead and download the latest patch
- after the game finishes installing, install the patch
The 'change the sound bit sample' solution was only a temporary fix when one of the patches Treyarch released bugged the Realtek sound driver. This problem was already fixed by the subsequent patch, it had nothing to do with Vista. -
ok try to disable your antivirus and try running the game

It could be two things:
Are you using winrar? If so,check if in file types you have winrar to open .cab files (you can do this in winrar main window/settings).
If winrar handles cabs,it blocks windows to correctly uncompress them.
Second problem could be a non-unicode language like arab. Try to reinstall the game after you switched your primary non unicode language to english. Like other languages such japanese or chinese, sometimes when a program doesnt support them it can lead to unsuccesful installation due to missing paths/unreadable strings in registry.
Also last question, is the game the retail one, and not an iso? Becaus an iso or a dvdrip can have corrupted sectors/data files. -

I forgot to mention that the game needs to be updated starting from lower patch in succession as Patches arent comulative.

and how to switch my primary non-unicode language to English -
Since the game isn't retail, support discussion on this forum must cease.
You can Google for other game forums that specialize in such matters.
