Hey Guys:
I have CoD 2 for my desktop - Pentium 4 3.2GHz Northwood (800MHz FSB, 512k), 2GB Corsair XMS, 256MB ATI 9800XT, SB Audigy 2 - and it used to run very slowly, mainly due to my video card. I was limited to 800x600 (or 1024x768 if I turned off some stuff) on lower settings. Still wasn't that great.
So, I downloaded a patch, which enables the game to utilize both cores of a dual core processor or fully use the Hyper Threading technology present on the Pentium 4HT.
Went back into the game - HUGE difference in performance, incredible! Framerates are much higher, and I actually could set up the resolution to XGA and turn the setting to about medium with no problem. Big increase from before - 800x600 and low.
Just thought I would share my experience. If anyone else has a Pentium 4 HT or dual core CPU, let me know how it goes!

The game runs great on my tripple-core Xbox 360.

Where did you download the patch from?

Can you use it? Your system has an Athlon 64. . . unless you have a dual core or P4 HT desktop.

My desktop is a P4 3.6 with ATI x600 w/256mb...I was planning on buying the game this weekend. Thanks.

Yes - try the game without the patch first, see how it goes, then apply the patch so you appreciate how much of a performance boost you get.

why doesnt a modern game like CoD2 use HT which has been around for years?
Is this the same case with quake4, battlefield 2 and age of empires 3? -

Agreed, nearly all of the games that come out over the next year or two [not really sure about the timeframe] should all run fine on single core processors, as that is what the majority of the population has. When dual-core becomes mainstream for a while, then I think we will see multi threaded games become more popular.
