I've installed COD4 and when I run it, it cashes citing some DirectX error.
I am running it on a C2D 1.6ghz, 1gig ram, win xp sp2 and gma X3100. I think this issue is not related to the graphics card (as some might think).
Any ideas?

If it's a DirectX error then reinstalling DirectX might help?

Isnt that the x3100 ? afaik those cards are tuned to run 3dmark but not actual new games .

As it suggested up there, you should try to reinstall DirectX. Also, new drivers for graphic card might help (you can download it from Intel's site).
X3100 is not suitable for gaming (but it is the strongest integrated GPU these days, though) but for CoD4 it is enough. Just keep sure that you shouldn't put settings more than medium, or similar errors to this one might appear. -
DirectX reinstall didn't help.
Any ideas? -
If the directX reinstall didn't help then the next thing to try is updated drivers. Look up Intel's website and see what's available.

I had the same error on XP, as my sound drivers aren't installed. Perhaps it's a similar problem? Also, did you force the game to run in software mode? CoD2/4 can run exclusively in hardware mode.

Have to change that back, any idea how to do that?
Thanks a ton -
-Off topic- Why does your signature say you have an 8600GT, if you have a X3100?

Oh, ok. Why not just play it on your Vostro, if that's not too dumb of a question?
