    Hey Guys (newb question here)

This has been really annoying me lately. I always get a pop-up every time I start Call of Duty 4.

Pop up is regarding optimal settings.

"Your computer appears to have changed since the last time you rand Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Would you like the game to configure itself optimally for your new hardware?

This is recommended for most people. It will change your system settings but not your controls."

I always get this message every time I start up COD 4.
Does anyone else get message? It worries me because my computer is pretty much the same, the only thing that I think might be causing this is the external DVD drive I use.

Anyways please let me know if this is normal.
    Thanks

    Jimmy

I always get it and I found out if I reset the graphic setting to recommended, the pop-up stops. Since I would not play at the recommended settings, I'll just click no everytime I start the game.

it's because your in-game screen resolution is usually different that your regular screen resolution, so COD4 reads this as "your computer changing", whereas is should probably say something like "do you wish to match screen resolutions" or something along those lines. Ideally it wouldn't ask this questions, like most other games.

I was wondering why it kept doing that, I thought something was happening to my pc behind the scenes :D :D
It never happened on my old pc, guess beacuse it was running at 1024x768 ;)

Yeah I get this as well. I always hit no, because I can easily max the game, but the "recommended settings" are about 3 rungs below the top in quality VS maxing it.

Halo PC also has something like this, but it has a "never show this again" check box. Why can't COD have that???

i get that too, it didn't show up after i formatted and reinstalled cod4, but 3-4 times of running it started to pop back up.

I always play on a CTX 24/7 Chinatown server, or their rotation server. I like it because they don't allow martyrdom or last stand, which i really hate.

You can try deleting the line of text in the "localization" file in C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare which matches the error message. I read about that once, but for me I just ended up getting another error message. You can, however, change the text with no problem. Which is why mine looks like this :) [IMG]

lol That looks reads a lot better than the system changes thing.

Seeing how we are on the subject. I have a few questions regarding Call of Duty 4.

Which are some of the best weapons in the game? I'm not a camper but I try my best to avoid close combat battles. I tend to lose those :s

More of a medium range to long range person. But I'm horrible at FPS Call of Duty 4 is my 2nd FPS I've ever played so I'm getting use to things.

Smooth Mouse? I seriously don't know why smooth mouse makes the game play smoother for me, if I don't enable it the frames get really skippy for me if I move the mouse really quick.

    Thats about it..
    Thanks
    Jimmy

I don't think you go wrong with the MP5 when you're starting.

I would help but I lost hope in being able to remove this myself. It comes up for me all the time :-( . I almost strangled my cat to death because of it.

Hmm I'm a SMG lover. So can't help you much there, BUT, for long range you might want to work your way up to a Sniper Rifle with the acog instead of the normal scope if you can't use it to well.
If your not talking about that long of range, Probably best off with an assault rifle.

    Thats.. brutal...

my favorite weapons in the game are:

    P90 (silenced)
    MiniUzi (silenced)
    M16A4 (red dot)
    G36C (nade launcher)

the first two are better for close combat, and the other two i'm good with all around. I suck at sniper or just using the agoc scope.

    HAHA nice man ;)
    I'm going to try that

As for weapons, I don't play online much [dail-up], but I do play on LAN, and I'm currently using the MP5 and completeing challenges, while snipers shall follow :D
