So, I have beaten COD 4 in all the levels except Veteran, which is fricking impossible. Like, when I pop my head out of cover, I die in two seconds. It is much, much harder than hardened. Anyone else relate?
-
Well, veteran aims for realism, which basically means get shot and die. You just have to use trial and error memorization of everything, and go very, very slow.

i recken be almost imposible
-
Veteran mode is kind of like.... the mode for people who want to master every aspect of the game to its fullest.... who really want to be THE BEST at CoD4.... not the average player.
-
I got to the level where you protect War Pig as it goes around town. Then I started getting owned.
-
I found hardened was difficult enough for me. Anything else would just get tedious as dying that many times would throw me off. The end of 'All Ghillied Up' got me so close to breaking my disk in half.
-
Yeah, hate the flashback missions. I mean, I really like the sniping, but with the dogs and carrying MacMillian...
-
My friend claims he played through on Veteran, if its true or not only he knows.
-
-
I could only complete "hardened", veteran is insane.
My hatred for the dogs is present at any difficulty level, and it always seems as though it tells you to melee the dogs when it's too late. -
Playing through once was good enough.
I mean.
The story wasn't great enough to play through every mission again.
But it was awesome the first time. -

The biggest thing that drove me to controller throwing frustration was that you actually couldn't take careful time and tactically take out enemies (and then move on) due to the constant AI respawns until checkpoints. Veteran only enhanced this madness, not to mention a whole lot more magic bullets hitting you from unseen enemies.
-
Veteran is nuts... I've played a few selected missions but to clear the entire game on veteran would take me months and once I did it I'd probably never play it again.
-
I beat it on Veteran, on my 360 (have to get those damn achievements), so if I could do it with a controller, surely with enough time you could with a keyboard/mouse.
It's not too bad until the end of One Shot (the second flashback with the ferris wheel). Then it quickly goes to hell. The last *real* mission (the timed one) is the worst. -
yea, same here, i beat it on my 360.. wasnt really THAT hard. mile high club took about 20 or 30 tries to finally beat it on veteran tho. its worth it tho seeng the 1000/1000 for the gamerscore

The last fire fight on "Ghillied" is truly a piece of work. -
Beating COD4 on Veteran is mostly about knowing how the enemy AI works, since there will literally be hundreds of enemies rushing at you with aimbot-like accuracy.
For example, when you get behind cover, the AI is programmed to be less accurate. (Infinity Ward probably did this in order to force people to take cover).
Also, when you lie prone in a good spot, the enemy will be almost unable to hit you. Of course they will still kill you eventually but it will buy a lot of extra time. The enemy will throw a LOT of grenades with pinpoint accuracy, but luckily they are not cooked so you have time to escape.
You need to use a lot of flashbangs, grenades, and yes even the n00b launcher (it's ok to use in single player).
Enemies will continuously spawn, so you need to move quickly from cover to cover, taking out enemies and getting to the checkpoint.
"One-shot, one-kill" and the timed missions are pretty insane and sometimes you will literally have to run away. -
Hardened was hard enough for me...
-
I think I'd start to lose interest if I died 15 - 20 times in a row! I died plenty of times on normal mode... Everytime I heard the dogs coming, I was shooting like a madman! Was pretty cool snapping the dog's necks though.
-
-
That's why you drop him and run the heck away. The very last part of that level is where it gets atrociously hard. I died dozens of times until I got lucky. I found out that the best place to be is to the right of the bumper cars area, where if you plant claymores near the ferris wheel, you can cover your behind, while you lie prone on the ground, praying to god.
-
cant u just run in like rambo and slay everyone with the shotgun? or just camp with a sniper and kill everyone so its safe enough to walk around without getting shot?
-
first you ain't all steriody pumped up rambo...running around half naked....
second... you ain't got the hair man.... -
Would be fun to make a mod where you turn into Rambo and go around popping of the enemies head with a shotgun. Maybe make it like a super power when you get mad enough you morph into a half naked Rambo with unlimited bullets and life for a short period of time. I should be a game developer actually.

I played through Call of Duty 4 one time and it was on Veteran (360 version). Yeah it was difficult, but I think all it really takes is patience. You'll die a lot but if you don't get frustrated you'll eventually get through it. I didn't have much trouble with All Ghillied Up - at the Ferris Wheel part I just layed down behind the bumper car pavillion and hid, dodging a few grenades and shooting the occasional guy who came around the corner. The one part I had troubles with was No Fighting in the War Room, Mile High Club was a breeze in comparison for me (just learn when to throw flash bangs, when to run, when to reload).
-
Mile High was incredibly easy on Easy. Gotta try it on Veteran.
-
i beat it on vet... all gillied up took me about a week (or more) to beat
-
On the PC version, The final mission (aeroplane one) on vet must be absolutely impossible. Using slow-mo (by collecting those damn laptops) i can only Just do it, must have taken me a good 30 tries. If anyone can do it without slow-mo, i salut you!
-
what's slow-mo?

One of the unlockables from finding those Voodoo laptops.

I though Hard wasn't bad at all. But Veteran is just retarded. I think the AI is allowed to cheat because there were so many "you got to be joking" moments. The AI becomes smarter and your team mates become retarded. That was the only thing that keep me playing. The computer cheats.
-
That's true, the computer will usually cheat at the highest difficulty level. Like UT3, where the highest difficulty turns the enemy into an aimbot, and your allies into idiots. Or C&C3 where the computer is given extra money when playing on "insane".
This is done to give a challenge to the "expert" players, while reducing the burden on the developers. So everyone wins (sort of). -
Speaking from the Xbox 360 version Veteran isn't that hard. Only hard part was beating Mile High Club which i ended up doing.
Just have patience and take cover ALLLLL the time. -
the mile high club is one of the hardest xbox360 achievements to get (unless you count those online ones, which are impossible). it's so much easier aiming with a mouse and keyboard then with the xbox controller. took me 3 hours to do it. probably a hell lot easier on the PC.
just remember the following sequences and you will be fine.
knife the guy coming out of the toilet
shoot the guy on the left side
immediately throw flashbang
run until you are very near the enemies then crouch
take cover on the right side of the seats, reload
throw flashbang run to left side near emergency exit
run up stairs, throw flashbang
kill 3 enemies
throw flashbang into next room
collect 4 flashbangs
use sights to mow down enemies (very straight they line up)
flash bang
run to finish
