Hey guys, I've got a problem with a retail copy of the first Modern Warfare. (running 64-bit Windows 7). I get about 60% through installation, to a piece called "icbm_load.bik", and installation seems to hang up. The program doesn't stop responding, but whereas each other piece moves pretty frequently, the installation seems to hang on this piece for 10 min. or more. I checked inside the disc, and this is a video file that, while a bit larger than nearby files, only comes in at 54MB, and there are much larger files on disc than that.

Any ideas? I also can't activate my retail key through Steam as a workaround because Steam doesn't accept retail codes from the original Modern Warfare.

Can you actually skip that file, and finish the installation? If you can, I could probably upload it for you, and then you can put it in the directory yourself.

For reference, the directory that it installs in is the following:

    C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\main\video

BTW, how long have you waited? There are just some files that seem to take ages, even though they aren't all that big.

I assume it's a disc copy, correct, and the disc isn't scratched or damaged at all?

Yes I was using a retail disc, and as far as I could tell the disc, while used, was near flawless. Error 1305 occurred at that file after waiting for 20 minutes, though.

Now, the issue is solved. I used Alcohol 120 after vigorously buffing the disc to get a nice image without any disc read errors. I can now mount the game and use my cd key to play singleplayer, and as far as I can tell, multiplayer doesn't require a disc. Thanks for your help.
