they're both very different games and i don't know if it's even worth comparing the two. for single player get CoD 4 and if you like death match style of gameplay then get UT3. both will run fine on your PC just not at best settings.
-
Would they look better than the console versions?
-
-
They are both excellent games.
It comes down to what kind of game you prefer. Do you prefer semi-realistic shooters or crazy futuristic mayhem?
Like I said, they are both great, so you need to tell us what kind of games you prefer if you want us to recommend one over the other. -
Btw, nice name, Cthulhu. =P -
but.
id still get COD4. its got both to be frank. and i know people will agree with me. theres silent stealth, minor fights...then mayhem breaks loose.
wow, i really have been smitten by it havent i?
if you can get both, go for it. thyre both fantastic. if youre in the mood for constant mayhem, go UT3. if you prefer a more subtle flavor. go COD4.
you'll get your enjoyments worth through both. -
CoD4 hand down. I'd go into details, but CoD4 has better gameplay.
-
COD4 will be a much better game for SP and MP modes. It will run great on your machine. My Vostro is specced exactly the same.
-
well i would defintiely go with cod4, and i'll ignore every other reason except what is below ---
# OF PLAYERS AVG. THIS WEEKEND
Call of Duty 4 (cod4) 19576
Unreal Tournament 3 (ut3) 594
i think the numbers speak for themselves :x if u want to compare just how bad ut3 is doing online, look at these old games
Quake 3 (quake3) 1785
Unreal Tournament 2004 (ut2004) 1420
Half-Life 2 Deathmatch (hl2mp2) 996 -
call of duty 4 ftw
-
Thanks for the advice, I think I will go with CoD4; that comparison of the number of people online really sold me.
Anybody able to give an estimate as to what framerate I can expect while playing online at medium-high settings? -
The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
My review has some rough numbers. You should be fine and can really turn it up if you overclock.
Yeah cod4 vs ut3 is no competition. -
For single player COD4
For MP UT3
for overall game, i'd say COD4. but you gotta understand that they have different settings or themes, one is a semi-realistic shooter with real guns and in real looking locations and the other one features alien like worlds and weapons. two differents styles, designs etc... my brother for example hates the 'alien' weapons and 'comic' like style of UT3, so he would love a game like COD4 or Soldier of Fortune 2(he liked it more than UT2003) you have to take that into account too.
and don't forget the orange box, you should check that game. -

I have a dell E1705 and I was wondering this EXACT same question myself. I have upgraded it to house the GO 7950 GTX like its more expensive brethren and i will list my specs as follows:
Intel T7200 (E4400 equivalent) 2.0Ghz
2GB DDR2 533 RAM
5400 RPM 120GB HDD
nVidia GO 7950 GTX (running at (600 core / 1422 mem)
my problem lies in the fact that when i play COD4 demo, i CAN run on all highest settings, but the guy above me claims that his notebook can as well, but my frame rate is choppy and inconsistent. Any advice to get it running smoother on my machine? -
Update your graphics drivers and make sure you dont have Realtech/realtek audio sound card as it coauses a low framrate apparantly.
-
Very different games. I got UT3, though I really enjoyed the singleplayer part of CoD4 (friend borrowed the game for me). I would probably have gone to CoD without playing the sp through earlier.
I don't really regret buying UT, it's technically pretty damn awesome and fun to play. And there aren't that many good fast paced shooters like this nowadays. King of the hill is still cs1.6 though.
Ps. What the hell are you babbling about realtek cards lowering fps? -
I hardly believe there`s room for comparing these two games.
UT3 is multiplayer all the way, whereas COD4 can be more exciting with various missions.
Having finished both if them, my opinion is that UT3 is more dynamic, whereas COD4 is more tactical, but they`re both great games and must-have`s.
