I got this game a few days ago and wanted to show how it runs on my new Lenovo Ideapad Y460 laptop which is a more then fantastc laptop. It runs this game maxed out settings at constant 60 frames per second. A little about the game.
This is the new first person shooter released by activision and developed by treyarch. There is been 6 other Call of Duty games before it in this series, and this one released on November 9th last month. It sold 7 million copys in its first weekend release the most out of the entire series. I have never played a COD game before this and I love it.
I highly recommend this game, for what I have played some 30 hours or so in the past 2 days its been phenominal. There is alot that comes with it;great single player;superb multiplayer and a zombie mode that really is fun. Here is a playthrough of the muliplayer component of this game.

Bad Company 2 > Black Ops. Seriously, Black Ops is just a reskinned, rewritten Modern Warfail 2. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't see how anyone could call the game groundbreaking or amazing.
^ Purely my opinion. Yours may differ. -
Jeez buzz killer...I Shouldnt have to defend the game, its the most popular online game series ever created, nuff said. -
Yeah wasn't impressed by Black Ops in the least bit, especially since it's using the MW2 3 Engine rather than MW2 4 engine. And the lack of multi-threading support at release really shows how much they cared about PC gamers. Sorry just watching the gameplay makes me sad. The run and gun arcade style is so unappealing. And the kill streak rewards, custom classes IMO are asinine.
I would agree, BC2 > BO
Oh and the dogs in COD games are awful. Why would they want you to kill dogs? What sick jerk at Treyarch/Infinity Ward/Activision said you know what would be awesome? Killing dogs. Yeah sounds awesome, can never kill enough dogs.
But yes, seems to run well on your Lenovo. Enjoy and gratz on your laptop. -
aww cmon, Id rather hear some upbeat tone replys then the winey black ops isnt good comments.
Grantid I havent played any cod games like I said so that may be the difference, but indulge when nessasary.
This isnt a freakin why call of duty black ops stinks thread, make one of those if you want! This is for fans to enjoy and talk about the game. -
The general consensus even with a lot of the common unwashed masses is that COD: Blops is a fairly mediocre game, even with the diehard Call of Duty fanboys that seem to stink up the internet every Thursday.
The reason you have no people here yet who share your opinion, is because, frankly, those people are extremely rare. -
-
I enjoyed the game. I've played all the CoD's, but never multi-player except on CoD 1. I think MW2 is a few points ahead of BO, but BO is still an awesome game. I'm a level 44 on multi.
-
yea the single player is really great, I much enjoyed it! I havent goton to far yet tho, just to the part where you start out after speaking to the president.
-
MW2: 9.5/10
BO: 8/10 -
I read that too, they said the single player was 6 hours or so in Black Ops.
-
I give it a 5/10 personally. Many points off due to the crap port and unplayability till now. Gameplay is ok, but the maps are kinda lame and sniping sucks. Sniping was my favorite part in any fps. I can snipe better with an M14 with ACOG than any other sniper rifle in the game which sucks.
Also i hope you realize many of these reviews are just paid for by Activision. -
COD always gave me a headache while playing. Dunno why.

meh it just seems to choppy and quirky. There's hardly ever teamwork involved and there are dudes that run around with only a knife owning the hell out of everyone. It also feel very arcade-like. That and the lack of recoil and strategy almost makes the game seem mindless.
The reason they sold so many copies is because they game is hyped, it "looks cool", and it's extremely simple to play and enjoy.
Many of these characteristics are what makes the game so enjoyable to some, but for me the game just seems like a rehash and it really doesn't push forward what COD4 did.
Just a side rant here... if I were to put gameplay of Black OPS and bad company 2 next to some gamer kid out there who has never heard of or seen either. Black OPS having a guy run around with an MP5 and kill a bunch of people followed by calling in a remote car or bc2 were your charging up a hill with mortar shells going off everywhere and a chopper shooting up a building... followed by a close firefight that leaves two collapsed buildings and a helicopter that had just crashed into the ocean.
These are my opinions and nothing more. -
I dont think its simple, its taken me countless hours to get my binds set right and Im still learning how to be effective. You have to realize a good portion of players are new players. Also why change something that just works...

jeffrey you gotta get hip to HD if your serious about your youtube stuff and reviews quality is soo much better in HD since they have such low bitrate on SD.

I wish they made more games like half life today. All this COD etc., makes me feel said. What happened to good single player campaigns where you actually were not immune to bullets and did not auto repair. Where enemies were actually smart and team up against you. Where physics made sense, and it was not actually about style and coolness but actually about gameplay.
To this date I can start playing HL and HL2 etc., and not get bored inspite of doing again and again. But with the newer breed of games, its all just play it once and forget it! -
i miss COD and COD uniteed offense. The first one and the expansion were awesome. I also kickedass at it too ^^ I stopped playing COD after the third one. I hated the second and third one. I thought the gameplay of the first one felt so smooth and awesome.
-
i liked black ops... certainly better than MW2... Story was quite nice.. multiplayer is ok.. just don't like it loosing scores like it has done once.
I give it 9/10 compared to MW2 which is 7/10..

Its by far my favorite first person shooter I have played in a long while. The game has stoped to where I have to ctrl+alt+del out of it in the multiplayer mode a few times but hopefully there going to bring some patches that will remedy this. Overall for how new it is, and considering there isnt anything much else out similar to it besides modern warfare 2 or in any other online game I would still recommend it.
-
I have played most of the COD games. I have to say BO is pretty similar compared to earlier series like MW and MW2. The difference between BO and MW is the plot and the settings (as in the environment).
It's perfectly fine that BO is similar compared to MW2 etc. But it has been staying like that for far too long. As far as I remember, basically in all COD games, you just have to pick up a weapon and shoot through the entire game. Rarely there has been need to think about how to progress through the game.
One of the better FPS games that I have played is MW2 (because it was refreshingly new at that time) as well as Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. The latter forces you to think tactically and therefore results in more exciting gameplay.
I am not trying to bash BO. It's a good game, it has sold more than 7 million copies. But the fact remains that BO is nothing new. This is something like FIFA games and Football Manager games. Year in, year out, they are more or less similar, albeit with litte features added.
I guess, at the end of the day, we are just looking for something new in a newer game. -
well theres always room for players that havent played a series to join. With the type of advertising they did for Black Ops I think that may have been there goal of getting more players to jump the bandwagin, I was one of them.
-
Game plays allright but it feels the same as mw2(played on my friend's PS3). I would buy it if they cut down the price in half at least.
My fav FPS was classic CS from back in the day lol. -

I think Halo: Combat Evolved was one of the first games, if not the first to introduce the "regenerating health" concept into shooters. But even then, it was a regenerating shield; health still needed to be recovered using health packs. Halo 2 did away with the health packs and hid the health information, and I'm assuming it recovered with the shield as well at that point.
I don't play any modern shooters these days besides Team Fortress 2 and the occasional Halo PC match, so I don't have an opinion on regenerating health in the shooter genre. However, I think that context definitely matters. In a game like Halo, it made sense for shields and health to regenerate over time because of the Master Chief's MJOLNIR armor. I'm guessing Crysis has a mechanic similar to that because of a power suit as well.
But with a game like Call of Duty from a spectator's standpoint, it makes no sense to have regenerating health because it's supposed to be a modern or at least very near future setting, meaning there's nothing to explain why a soldier can get shot to the point of near death, then emerge seconds later ready to take another clip of weapons fire. Maybe this is just following a general trend in the genre (doing it for the sake of doing it), or it's just to make it more accessible to a greater audience. Perhaps the genre has devolved into a "run-and-gun" game design that not only benefits from regenerating health, but requires it because of the lack of "thinking man's play" and the emphasis on "spray-and-pray." I don't know.
An interesting thing to note is that Goldneye: 007 for the Wii has regenerating health as the default option, but apparently has a harder difficulty mode that does away with that and puts health packs back in, ala the N64 version. I'm curious to see how many people have actually played with that mode; it definitely sounds very interesting and I'd like to see if the modern first person shooter game design actually benefits from regenerating health or if it is not necessary. -
@meemer
Yea I know regenerating health doesn't make sense and isn't realistic in the context of a lot of games. But damn if I wanted "realistic", I'd join the army. -
BO fixed griefing in MW2.
Watched the interviews with the devs..
It's a lot more fun and takes a lot more skill. As an owner of both, I prefer BO -
yea they added alot to BO. I think more people play the PS3 version of it then pc though. My brother plays COD:BO on the ps3. I didnt even know it till he seen me gaming on my laptop on the wirelss on battery on the couch and he told me he has it for ps3. He said he liked it better then mw2.

the graphics look worse than mw2... the engine may have some subtle improvements but the art assets are much worse.... i just can't pay full price for it. maybe $20 for the balance patch. i don't think it will ever be that price considering mw2 went on sale for $30 over a year after it was released and AFTER blops came out.
so- pass. -

The game is garbage, this is a cash in, Activision wants to turn this into madden, a new game every year, and for the most part the casual gamer bought this, thats why console sales are greater than the pc sales for this game. Also due to the lack of decent pc support aswell. The textures are bloated, a bit sharper on the pc but this design was purposely done to fit into the small amount of ram the ps3 and 360 have. They are 5 year old consoles that at the time 512mb shared between the cpu and gpu was enough, but today not so much.
The game has some nice gameplay, I will give it that, although I'd say MW2 polished it a bit better than BLOPS has. The quick action mirrors games like counter strike which in my opinion do a bit better even if they are dated. The story didn't have the same feel as MW2 in the respect that it doesn't feel like an action movie, on rails story I think is slowly dying, people want freedom and diversity not a linear path and going with the motions.
Simply put again this is a cash grab, a reskin of last years game. Something like this could have been handled in say an expansion pack, similar to the Vietnam pack for BFBC2, most people only play the multiplayer on these games so to include a story that sucks doesn't (for most people) earn their 60 dollars when they could have cut the single player and focused harder on the multiplayer.
Final side note, the multiplayer is a tad bit unbalanced, kill streaks are more annoying in this game than the last, and seem to be way more cheaper. Im almost forced to buy this game though or I'd have to miss out playing with friends, they've all left BFBC2 to play this so if I wanna play with them I have to move to it...... Unfortunately.
I word to the OP, don't be upset if people hate on the game, enjoyment is subjective and we are all allowed to speak are mind, and will continue to do so despite your plea not to, if more people thought the game was good they'd share that opinion, but showing from this thread alone it seems there is more haters than lovers. -
Didn't like it. As many others said, the graphics engine is awful - it looks like some old FPS. Also there are differences in the levels. Some of them look nicer others look awful.
-
My game freezes some times and I have to ctrl alt del out of it. Hope they fix in in a patch or something. I dont defend something if its not worth defending. Its fun as a new COD player though and its brand new so its ok to have a few kinks.
The graphic engine looks fine to me though. All the colors are nice to look at and it coninsides with the game well. Its nice to have games that alot of people play and you can still run it with the best of them. -
Modern Warfare 2 was a great game and I loved it. Black Ops not so much. It's a little bit more like BFBC2 which is a good game, but boring as hell for me. Plus the glitches and graphics in Black Ops make it extremely unappealing of a game. I hope MW3 can do what MW2 did and actually be a decent game. I like CoD quite a bit, it's not boring where you sit back relax and wait for some dude to rush up the middle and you just gun him down, you actually have to move and react quickly or else your dead in an instant. BFBC2, lol it takes like 8 bullets to kill someone and it's like baby mode for me plus the guns look like huge toys. Now one thing I really appreciate about BFBC2 is that it's probably one of the best looking games out there, but otherwise no so much...
-
I'm sorry crap on your thread, but I can't stand Black Ops. Modern Warfare 2 was more groundbreaking because it introduced a new style of CoD gameplay, Black Ops is a copy of that style of CoD gameplay just back in time...once...again...we....go..back..in...time..
The singleplayer was good, but jumped around too much. It is a good game for all CoD fans don't get me wrong, but it kinda killed my love for the CoD series.
Though I am praying for that small chance that we'll see a Modern Warfare 3 under Infinity Ward's name. They made the only good CoD games (why do you think WaW didn't sell nearly as much as CoD4, and same with CoD 2 being about 100000000x better then the tiest game of the decade, CoD 3)
I sold Black Ops and bought Halo Reach for 360. Best purchase I ever made. If anyone has a 360 please buy Halo Reach. It should have gotton more hype then Black Ops. -
I have almost reached my first presteige and Im loving it. Theres always alot of people playing it and everyone is having fun. I have never once heard someone complain in game about it. The zombie mode is fun to. I dont think Id change one thing about the game, its perfect for me being a new cod player.
-
BTW: I just bought MoH yesterday, and you have to be blind to say its better than B0. IMO anyway. -
-
If you still play, whats your user name on CoD MP? Mine's tHE j0KER in purple. -
I wish I still had my copy
Maybe Steam has it
-
-
I only play SP, and I liked BlackOps much more than MoH...
Haven't tried BC2 yet, but I soon will mwuahahahaa....... -
-
Prestiege is rankings in multiplayer. There are 15 prestieges in BO.

I dont want the OP to think I am trolling but here is my opinion.
1. 4-5 year old graphics that look like CSS.
2. PC performance issues. You shouldn't have to own a $3000 pc to get a game that looks this old to run.
3. Sniping is nerf'd which really makes the hardcore fans mad (this one doesn't bother me as much due to play style)
4. Maps feel a little small.
5. Guns have little recoil.
I played MP until level 50 and have now quit. I just dont have the desire to run around in circles on Nuketown over and over and over.
I wanted to like it but other games like BFBC2 are far superior in both gameplay and graphics.
Again this is just my opinion. I started the COD series with COD MW1.
