Another Call of Duty 4 question. I'm getting good framerates in general (35-50), but when I join a server, my ping is around 280?! This makes me feel like I'm playing hopskotch on the map. I can't get a shot in, because I'm skipping all over the place. My normal ping, (CS:S, BF2/2142, etc.) is around 13-30. Anyone have a clue what to do?

Maybe you're playing on servers out of the country or something is using your internet in the background. (i.e. Steam downloading game update.)
-
type the following in the console, it should lower your ping
first make sure your joining servers with low ping only....ie you sort em out from low ping to high ping.
\cl_maxpackets 100
another useful tweak is this
\pb_sleep 500 (tells punkbuster client software to wait longer before awakening and sending info to PB, dont worry you wont get banned or kicked)
\pb_writecfg (makes the above effect permanent so you dont have to keep typing this in the conosle everytime you join the server) -
Thanks guys!

out of curiosity what was it that helped, the console commands or joining servers with low pings -
Well, I tried both. It worked the first time, but when I re-booted the game, my ping was back up to 300 no matter what server or command. I hate this game...

do you have any firewalls, antivirus software running in the background which may be blocking cod4.
also have you tried forwarding the ports cod4 uses
28960 both TCP and UDO -
No firewalls or anti-viruses. Tried forwarding the ports... didn't help.
Screw it... not too impressed with Call of Duty 4 anyway. -
call of duty 4 is awesome mate. Like you though, I've had this problem and it was due to being behind a firewall on my LAN. Double check your packets aren;t being filtered. Out of curiosity, do you have problems obtaining a list of servers to play on?
-
No, I get a full list when I say "Update Server" and "Quick Update".
-
have you applied the latest patch, 1.4?? maybe that might solve some problems.
-
I'm starting to get the same problem for some reason. It's been running perfectly for over 25 hours so I dont see why it should stop now.
