Yes. But the real question is, will the game be any good and if so, will first-year DLC be free or not? It's still going to be $60 retail and published by Activision. Two MAJOR downsides that are going to affect the purchasing decision of many. I don't like that Activision is now putting out a new COD title every year...

Destructible environments? After how much I enjoyed that in BC2, I might actually have to get a CoD title. o_o
-
Haha crossbows? That's awesome.
Albeit i skipped out on cod5 and mw2, i might get this seeing as it has dedi servers and it is kinda like mw. -
Is it just me or did the graphics in the trailer look 3 years old?

Well to be fair designing games for the hardcore competitive players is prob a bad idea, seeing as they are the minority. Blizzard failed at this with it's Burning crusade WoW expansion, Made raiding so hard and tedious that the majority of the players couldn't experience the content without devoting massive amounts of time. They then revamped the whole system in Wrath of the Lich King. Which gave easy access to raiding and end game content for alot less ground work (much to the hardcore raiders lament btw, Go check out the massive amounts of angry people in the blizz forums). And as a result subscriptions soared during that expansion then compared to BC.
Unfortunately tho the hardcore people are usually what I like to refer to as the "Vocal" minority. And tend to get very well vocal and angry when things dont change in their favor. And while the content people rarely give much input back to a developer. -

Ah yes forgot about how infinity ward bailed on them hard. Will be interesting to see what CoD is without them.

In the trailer they talk about history and show action scenes from what appears to be the Vietnam War and yet the guys are holding a modern day M4A1(1997) that just happens to include a flattop receiver with Picatinny-style rail and flip-up sights that didn't exist back then. What can I say, I'm not shocked CoD never gets any of the weapons right or history for that matter. Maybe they were just lazy to make a CAR-15/XM-177. Who knows, maybe Call of Duty: Black Ops story is about a bunch of soldiers that travel to the past.. either way I call this another lame CoD game.

I would have to disagree. At least when I was playing Everquest 2, the casuals were both the more vocal as well as the majority. The EQ2 forums were just full of people complaining about how difficult encounters were, and how hard dungeon bosses were, and how it was impossible for casuals to experience high-end raiding content, etc ,etc...they'd just never shut up.
Unfortunately, capitalism won and the spirit of hardcore MMO-gaming lost, and the devs (SOE) began making HUGE nerfs, as in cut down the health of certain raid mobs by over 75%. This was right before this year's expansion came out, and I got so fed up with the easy mode that I finally quit.
But yeah, my point in that hardcore gamers are hardly the vocal group in general. The casuals with their superior numbers, as well as how vocal they can be, definitely have the ears of the devs. Case in point, I think, is the general trend of games becoming easier and easier to beat.
Back on topic, I lost faith in the COD franchise after MW1 and the whole MW2 nondedicated server fiasco. The fact that most of all the original devs left does not boost my confidence. This smells like another rehash of MW with different skins so it looks like the 1960s... -
I have to disagree also.
Look at World of Warcraft. It's the casuals who are the most vocal. If you look at the current competition among hardcore raiding. Let me rephrase, hardcore raiding is gone. A lot of hardcore raiders have since quit or play casually. Guild that once raided 4-5 nights a week discovered with the same level of coordination and skill, they only need to raid 2 nights a week and still progress faster than they did in BT/Hyjal and Sunwell than in ICC.
The guilds that still raid 4-5 night a week you discover are the guilds who are either looking to get server firsts, which case they are bored stiff for a year as they cruise through content within 2 weeks now. Or they were the fail guilds who couldn't down Vashj after 2 years of attempts and still want to do 4 nights a week to raise their e-peen to make up for the incompetence.
So yeah I have to disagree, casual gamers are more vocal and heard more and the hardcore gamers are often the ones ignored. There is more money to be had by satisfying the casual players than the hardcore players. -
I hope this CoD owns MW2. I hope they make it different from MW2 or MW1 though. MW2 was basically MW1, and if this turns out to be another MW1 clone in a different setting, I'm not gona like it.
Maybe new graphics engine with a new combat feel to it? I hate it when developers get lazy and use the same engine with minor modifications. It's been almost 3 years since MW1, time for a new graphics engine IMO. -
How is it stupid and or expensive? Why is the fact that "noobs" (who apparently are lesser peoples in society) like CoD bad?
Argument constructing's not your strong point, aye. -
Oh and if you guys think the majority of the people on the WoW forums are the casuals boy you must never visit them. -

I'm hoping there'll be no new graphics engine, because my graphics card won't be able to handle it
And dedicated servers sounds delicious but that's only the half of it. If Treyarch mentions the word "zombie mode," I'm putting my pre-order immediately -
Here is an interesting article by Jock Yitch -- he's been following the competitive COD scene since the beginning.

follow his site and he will update with all the much needed info. -
Looking forward to the release of Black Ops, i really hope that it will not fail me once again.... *cough*Modern Warfare 2*cough*

I don't know if you guys remember, but when the MW2 trailer was first released (the one after the teaser, can't find it now) it showed similar graphics to that of the Black Ops trailer - low resolution, seemingly poor graphics and definitely no antialiasing.
However, graphically, MW2 was a definite improvement over COD4 (altho still nothing special), lets just hope that Treyarch can push the engine even further to deliver more eye candy.

Singleplayer
- Vietnam is just a small part of the story. The games story is set across a large period of time.
- Some of the singleplayer maps are based on multiplayer maps, which is usually the other way around.
- In some missions you have the option to move in stealthily or go in guns blazing.
- The enemy AI is smarter. They will now try to dodge if you aim at them.
- Multiplayer has been in development from day one.
- Lean is back!
- Vehicles will be returning.
- Create-A-Class 2.0 includes deep customization and new features.
- The game will include a "barebones" game mode.
- As the name implies, there won't be any perks or killstreaks, just old school gameplay.
- Many familiar weapons will be making a return, including the AK-47.
- The region filter is back.
- Improved matchmaking and server browser.
- Modern Warfare 2's host migration will be included.
- Auto-Aim can be turned on/off.
- PC gamers will be able to enjoy the comfort and luxury of dedicated servers.
- The PC version will have an anti-cheat software, but it's unknown if it's Punkbuster.
- There will be support for the competitive community, which will include great tools.
- The team focusing on the multiplayer aspect of the game is twice the size (World at War).
- There will be 2-4 player co-op.
- Supports 2 player offline split-screen.
- It won't be based on the singleplayer campaign.
- Zombies might be making a return from World at War.
- The game engine is a heavily modified version of the IW engine which was used in World at War.
- The game runs at 60 FPS!
- Physics destruction is going to be limited, so no Battlefield Bad Company 2 style "blow holes in the walls" gameplay.
- The PC version will look better than the console versions (duh).
- There are over 200 people working on Black Ops!
