Hey guys! Hope everyone is enjoying their summer more than I am for sure!
With the arrival of the Montevina platform, most of the manufacturers like HP and Dell, etc.. are offering discounts on the older platform.

I am planning on getting a laptop for gaming and school but at the same time Id like the laptop to run less hot. Here's my wishlist of the games I wanted to play on my laptop. Other graphics extensive titles will be taken care by my desktop.

    My wishlist :D

Would the 8400M Gs with 256 MB ram be enough for these games? or Do I NEED to get the 8600M Gs 512 MB?

I am planning to invest in either the DV6700t or the DV9700t.

Also these are pretty much the only games Id be playing on my laptop.

Thanks guys.. u are always great.. ;)

never wimp out on the GPU, go for the best that your budget can take, plus playing those games at high res wouldnt mind the extra power

The 8400m GS can handle all of them... but are you sure you aren't going to play any new games? If so, go for something more powerful.

the 8600 will be more futureproof and will even show more fluid game play in some of the games you listed over the 8400

The X3100 will run all those games maxed out great. If you want to play more graphic-intensive games when you're away from your desktop, you're probably best off with an 8600M GS/GT (especially the 8600M GT).

PES 2008 is going to be the spanner in the works.. It can't run maxed out on the 8400M GS at any rate... Go for the 8600GS

The x3100 can more than handle and max out the games he listed.

Get the 8400m GS and make sure its DDR3 VRAM...

If you have a gaming desktop no need to go overkill on the laptop!

It'll probably be a few frames slower. I'd recommend going with a Dell Studio 15 or XPS M1530 over the HP.

Could someone tell me which of these games is most likely to be affected by going with the 8400M GS 256MB DDR2 for the HP6700t?

And also how bad are these games going to run (the ones from the list that wud be affected by the 8400M GS)..????

If you take out PES 2008 from the list, I think any cheap GPU laptop would suffice. Because of this and for more smoother gaming experience, I would recommend 8600GPU laptop as well.

i guess he only saw the game that was released in 1993 out of that chart. but seriously, the 8400gs can handle all of the games on the market, even crysis (yes am playing that on my vostro) but you can never get settings above medium if the game is released after 2006. if you are not playing anything newer and you HAVE to save the money then the 8400gs. but if I were you I'd find something even better than a 8600gs

Id go for the 8600M GS if your budget can handle it. I mean ok they can all run those games but dont you wanna have the option of running some newer games?

The 8600 is only a $50 upgrade over the 8400, so I say you might as well get that.

Except for PES 2008. For all the other games, however, the X3100 is fine.

yes, you r right.. but if i had the option of getting the smaller 15". I would but sadly the 8600m gs isnt posible on the dv6700t.

if i must go with the dv9700t then def 8600m gs wud b the way 2 go.

i m stuck with the thought that the 8400m gs wdnt play all those games with high settings but then again, how high cud igo with 8400m gs for games that require a 64mb videocard? or a 128mb card? or a 16mb card? or a simple svga card? all requiring compatibility with direct-x 5.0 or better.

hope my question isnt stupid :(

That sherlock homes game is source engine based I believe. So I'd try for at least the 8400m GS. I don't use any integrated except for the AMD HD3200, which I love. I'd tell you to find a laptop with a 780G chipset (which contains the HD3200) and you'd be set. Low power integrated that performs as well or better than an 8400m GS.

Hey! The OP didn't ask us to be critical of his taste in games, he asked us which hardware would be best for running said games.

@ the OP, I voted the 8600GT. You may not NEED it to play the games you have listed for us. But the GPU is one of the most important parts in a laptop. If you're trying to cut corners, this is not the place.

KGann, you'll notice that most of these games are either funny or intriguing.
Something I need at the end of a long day at school. I dont like modern first person shooters..

Most of my favorite (visually impressive) adventure titles are ones that were released on the ps2/3. Consoles are what I prefer for the purpose of hardcore gaming.

These games are just to kill time before sleeping or a boring evening on a saturday..

When you say I might not NEED the 8600, did you mean I might NOT need it or I MIGHT ? lol

Which of these games are going to run flawlessly on the 8400M ?

the dv9700t is kinda big to sit on the desk in the class..

You won't need the 8600GT to run all of the games you have posed. The 8400 should be able to run them, but I don't think it would run them well. You'd have to turn down the graphics settings. Are you OK with that?

The 8600GT is a big step up from the 8400, having it would go a long way toward "future proofing" your lappy. ;)

even games that are listed with system requirements of only 64mb video ram?

and which processor should be able to handle these games easily?
