with a bit of googling I have found that intels turbo boost disables a core to speed up a single core, supposedly giving a speed boost with most applications.
However, I'm not really liking the idea of losing a core for only a 300 mhz boost, as some of my applications (namely new games) can take advantage of my multi-threaded cpu.
My small amount of research told me that I can only disable this feature using the bios, however that option is not available in my Vaio's bios (however I do get this cpu c3/c6 enable or disable option)
any ideas how to stop this? a solid 2.5 ghz multi threaded dual core is good enough and I also want to disable it to test some in game settings,

I think your a little confused... The only time the turbo will kick in is when the app only WANTS to use 1 core... it will clock the cpu up to the max ghz, theres no way the cpu will force the program to use one core... and when the app is actually useing mutiple cores the cpu will still clock up... it just does not clock up as high do to tdp and cooling restrictions... (examples: when your playing a game that only supports one core it will clock to the full 2.8ghz if it needs too but if your playing a game that supports multiple cores like fallout it will only clock both cores up to maybe 2.6-2.7ish range)
